Girls Weekend in Napa Valley

7 Oct 2010  20 Year Anniversary of Friendship
0.0 of 5 stars based on 0 votes

A four day weekend for four ladies in the Valley. We came into town on Friday. Saturday and Sunday we had a driver that drove us around tasting. The drivers chose our itinerary. We left Sunday and had lunch in San Fran before heading home.

On Friday, we stopped at Madonna Estate and Domaine Carneros and had dinner at Azzuro Pizzeria. On Saturday, we stopped at Signorello, Girard, Jessup, Flora Springs, Miner Family and Alpha Omega and had dinner at Bounty Hunter. On Sunday, we stopped at Artesa, Plumpjack, Mumm and Rutherford Ranch, Auberge Du Soliel and V Wine Cellar and had Round Table Pizza for dinner.

Of all the places we visited, this list includes the places I highly recommend to visit on a girls or friends trip.

  • 1. The Corner Cottage
    http://www.cornercottage.us/

A beautiful restored little cottage in Napa in a decent location to historic downtown and the Wine Train. My review is under Vacation Rentals in Napa.

  • 2. Madonna Estate
    http://www.madonnaestate.com/

This was our first stop of our trip on Friday. It was about 4pm once we got in from San Francisco. Before going to check into our cottage, we wanted to stop and taste at a few places before they closed.

It's an independently owned winery. We tasted the 4 Estate Wines for $5; Chard, Pinot, Cab, and Gewurztraminer.

  • 3. Domaine Carneros
    Domaine Carneros, Napa, Napa Valley

This was our second stop on Friday. We arrived about 5pm and had a nice, sunny day for tasting on the patio. You can chose from a sparkling wine or red wine tasting for $15. You get 2 ounces in each of 3 glasses. You can also order appetizers while tasting or they give you some almonds. We had a great time here and met some nice people around us. Our server was very nice as well. I highly recommend this place on a nice sunny day!

  • 4. Bee Driven
Napa Bee Driven, Napa Valley, California

You can hire a driver to drive your rental around the valley. We used them on Saturday and had a really nice lady, Patricia, drive us around. I corresponded with the owner, Donna, through email before the trip planning our itinerary. I highly recommend them, they have great prices.

On Sunday, we had a Jessup rep drive us around. We met him at our tasting on Saturday and he agreed to be our driver for Sunday. In some ways it was good being driven around by someone in the industry and in some ways it wasn't. We got ignored a lot having him with us. I guess others assumed he knew everything.

  • 5. Signorello Vineyards
    Signorello Vineyards, Napa, Napa Valley

Our first stop on Saturday about 11:30am. They have a really nice patio and infinity pool overlooking the valley. We had the regular tasting of wines I think for $15. The tastes included the 08 Seta, 08 Chard, 07 Zin, 07 Syrah, and 06 Cab. I ended up buying the Cab.

  • 6. Girard Tasting Room

We had an appointment at Jessup and this place is right across the street, so our driver suggested stopping in here. We all had a regular tasting and each bought 1 or 2 bottles. The wine was really good and our server was super friendly. He gave us a few VIP cards for other places to check out. This was definitely a group favorite. I bought a bottle of the Petite Sirah.

  • 7. Jessup Cellars
    Jessup Cellars, Yountville, Napa Valley

We had a 12:30pm appointment here on a Saturday. You sit down at a large round table and get complementary cheese, olives, and chocolate. It's a really small plate, but a nice touch. Everyone was super nice here and we had the best time at this place and bought the most wine. Our server, Jeff, knew how to sell. We got to talking and told him we had a driver, she kept coming in to check on us because we were there for 2 and 1/2 hours, and he agreed to drive us on Sunday.

I definitely recommend this place and would save it for a last stop of the day, because they pour a lot of wine and it's a great social setting. I bought the Juel and Merlot.

  • 8. Artesa Winery
Artesa Vineyards & Winery, Napa, Napa Valley

This was my second time to this winery, but my first time tasting. The wine is pretty decent, but the views and architecture are amazing. I still recommend visiting this winery even to just see the place.

  • 9. Folio Michael Mondavi Family Winery
    http://www.foliowine.com/

This is a nice little tasting room with a porch on the backside overlooking the vineyards. We all did the pick six tastings for $10. I like this type of tasting, because you can chose more of what you like. For instance, I don't really like whites, so I can stick with reds. Michael Mondavi has his own $200 bottle of Cab that we got to try also. He's the only one that can open a bottle and if he does, the pourer may let you taste it. I ended up buying a bottle of the 2008 Spellbound Petite Sirah.

  • 10. Mumm Napa
    Mumm Napa, Rutherford, Napa Valley

We had a nice, warm, sunny day to sit on the patio looking out into the vineyards to enjoy a nice sparkling wine tasting. I'm not a big sparkling wine drinker, but it is a great place to enjoy hanging out. We got three 2 ounce pours each of our sparkling wine. At the end of our tasting, we asked to try the Sparkling Pinot, which was a clear favorite for us all.

  • 11. Auberge du Soleil Restaurant
Auberge du Soleil Restaurant, Rutherford, Napa Valley

After tasting at 4 places on Sunday, we went here for appetizers. They have an amazing view of the valley as it sits on top of Rutherford Hill. We all shared a hummus and cheese plate...delicious! This is a great stop for drinks and appetizers. It is a little expensive, but worth the view and atmosphere.

  • 12. V Wine Cellar
    http://www.vwinecellar.com/home

We ended our Sunday here to catch some of the Sunday Night Football game. My friends are Bears fans. This is also a nice place to lounge with friends and have a tasting or share a bottle. We started a tasting at the counter and then moved to the couch and leather chairs in front of the TV to finish our tasting. It's like a big living room to enjoy your friends' company and great wine from all over. The guys there that run the place are super friendly and accommodating.
