  • 1. Residenza d'Aragona
    Residenza d'Aragona, Palermo, Province of Palermo

    a nice well situated hotel in central Palermo. Big rooms, free wifi, nice bathroom and reliable air conditioning. Not too noisy. Breakfast until 9:30 so it can be a bit rushed in the mornings. Nice food, with fresh fruit.Don't drive in Palermo, too hard to get around rent your car after you leave the city. Three or Four days is enough as it is a hot, noisy and dirty city.

    while in Palermo this is a must. Easy to get to with the on-and -off bus. The huge church is fantastic with mosaics that are well preserved.

    the duomo is not to be missed. the best in sicily and it is easy to see why.

    wonderful and peaceful to walk through the cloisters and picture the life of the priests who lived here.

    Wonderful food and excellent staff and service. They do not open until 7:30pm. Try the veal "soup" and the fish of the day-both fantastic!

    a MUST in Palermo, and a wonderful walk to find it. They often have concerts at night in an open air space. Wonderful dining so count on lunch or an early diner (they close at 6 pm)

    unusual experience to see the long dead and preserved bodies. totally unique but if the dead are not your thing, then miss it by all means!

    beautiful building. we went to a beethoven concert one night with a guest pianist and it was wonderful . Try to get tickets.

    worth a stop on the way to Trapani, magnificient columns of temples

    a great way to get to erice - this tram in the sky surpasses driving and is magical as it goes through the clouds. take it from Trapani.Erice, a beatiful walled city, is a MUST for sicily, just get tickets to the 5 attractions and walk to them and end up at the fortress with a magnificient view of trampani and the ocean.

    we stayed in this lovely, slightly upscale hotel for 2 nights and it was well worth the splurge, with a balcony facing the sea, and the rooms and beds very comfortable.breakfast is on the rooftop and wifi throughout the hotel. very friendly and helpful staff with cheap parking nearby.

    A real find. a small and beautifully desighned museum with artwork and sculpture and jewellery from the area. well worth the extra effort to find it.

    a wonderful museum outside trapani in the salt flats, showing the history of salt extraction since the Pheonicians. a guide will explain it in English.

  • 18. Valley of the Temples (Valle dei Templi)

    these famous temples are outside agrigento and a must. go later in the afternoon around 4 pm when it is cool and not so crowded and plan to spend around 2 hours walking and looking. i used the guide on the iphone and it was great.

    we ate in this lovely retaurant and had the local pasta with seafood and local tomatos and cheeses.

    we stayed here after seeing the valley of temples and had a hard time finding it - google map and gps could not help and we finally had the police guide us right to the place! it was well worth it as the hotel is lovely and modern, with large rooms and gorgeous bathrooms. the dinner was in the hotel was great. i recommend it but you have to call so they will guide you to it.

  • 21. Hotel Gangi

    our next stop was piazza armerina to see the roman villa and its mosaic floor that you cannot miss. we drove into the mountains and loved the views and the lush countryside. this hotel was clean and easy to find but was dark and dingy with indifferent staff. i would not stay here again or recommend it.

    we drove 3 km out of Piaxxa Armerina to this great restuarant, and almost missed it as the sign is tiny. it is worth the trip as the pheasnt and fish are wonderful.Baked with almonds and vegetables in a delicious sauce.

    this is a fantastic site, a roman villa with mosaic floors. all being preserved carefully but enough is open for touists to see and apprecite the find.

  • 24. Antica Badia Relais Hotel

    this was another spluge but well worth it. a converted convent that has beautifully appointed rooms all facing a couryard. centrally located in the new town, and it is easy to walk down into old ragusa.attentive staff who are helpful at every turn.

    a true find in ragusa with wonderful pasta and fish at a reasonable price. easy to find with welcoming staff.

    walking through the old town this is the best church a part of the benedictine monastery.

    this is the striking feature of old ragusa and you keep it in sight and walk toward it all the time. the piazza and duomo are magnificient, as you would expect.

    beautiful and restful garden in old ragusa, with trees and shade and seating. several old churches to admire but none are open this day.

    amazing, well preserved greek/roman teatro nestled into the mountains with a spectacular view. not to be missed

    beautiful duomo with pink marble, and a lovely piazza.Taormina is lovely with a fabulous view, but very crowded with tourists.If you have a car, leave it at the Car Park and take the free bus into the city, carrying your luggage. You then can get a taxi if you are lost or find your way.

    on the way back to Palermo, we stopped at cephalu and were astounded with this Norman duomo, with mosaics and towering ceilings

    an old home converted into a museum with paintings and dishes and birds (taxidermy). the picture of 'the unknown man' is there and has its own room. easy to find and t explore in a short time.

    not wanting to splurge, we stayed in this simple B@B on the outskirts of defalu, about a 20 minute walk into the old city. the room was large and clean and the breakfast ok, but it is a part of a condo in a condo complex.The host speaks english and is very helpful. Better to stay closer, or in, to the town.

  • 37. Hotel Azzolini

    this hotel is vey near the airport and is a good last night if you have to leave early in the am (as we did). but it is not great as the rooms are large but the a/c noisy and the bathroom fan noisy. it has a pool for a quick dip if you like old water. the food in the restaurant was good and convenient.
