I've compiled a list of some great places to visit in Riviera Maya that provide a good variety of history, adventure, sight-seeing and interactive experiences.

  • 1. Yal-ku Lagoon
    Yal-ku Lagoon, Akumal

Snorkel in a peaceful and serene lagoon with calm waters and a wide variety of fish.

  • 2. Akumal Beach
    Akumal Beach, Akumal

Snorkel right off the beach alongside graceful sea turtles. Akumal is famous for them!

  • 3. Mayan Ruins of Tulum
    Ruinas Mayas de Tulum, Tulum

Ancient ruins with the ocean as a beautiful backdrop. When you are done touring the ruins, the site has one of the most lovely beaches in the area...definitely worth bringing your bathing suit!

  • 4. The Jungle Place
The Jungle Place - Tours, Chemuyil

A jungle sanctuary for abused spider monkeys. Spend an hour in their habitat interacting directly with these playful and inquisitive creatures.

  • 5. Collectivo de Artesanos de Puerto Morelos (Puerto Morelos Artists' Cooperative)
Puerto Morelos Artists' Cooperative, Puerto Morelos

Shop for handmade Mayan crafts, including one of the best selection of hammocks in the area.

  • 6. Ek Balam
Ek Balam Mayan Ruins, Ek Balam Village

Ancient Mayan ruins. A less crowded and more intimate environment than some of the other sites in the area. Climb to the top and admire the view!

  • 7. Valladolid

Enjoy a taste of Mexican culture by visiting the main square. People-watch at one of the restaurants on the square while listening to the bells ring on the Catedral de San Gervasio.
