Denver with DH

30 May 2006  Traveled west when I was single and would love to revisit Denver and introduce it to my suburban spouse.

Friday in Denver starting with their impressive new airport. Lots to do in the city itself, but first, gotta stop the car to get a real up close look at the bison. Perhaps even a stop at the Buffalo Bill museum. A tour of the Coors brewery would also score big with the spouse. Friday night offers a number of dining possibilities in contemporary downtown Denver. On Saturday, nothing would be better than heading out early for an energizing hike in the Rocky Mountain state park. The park service has brochures showing recommended hikes based on the length of the hike, and the fitness of the hiker. One of the shorter trails takes you to LuLu city, an abandonned mining town high in the Rockies. A stop in low-key but tourist friendly Grand Lake on the way in or out of the park presents dining and souvenir hunting options, and even a few places to stay. On Sunday, plan a drive through the Rocky Mountain park and bring your camera. If you're lucky, you may spot an elk or moose. Back in Denver for final shopping and snacks before heading on home. Doesn't this sound like a great way to spend a weekend?
