Vermont in a Weekend (Summer)

16 Jun 2012  Recent weekend trip to Vermont
4.5 of 5 bubbles based on 1 vote

If you only have 48 hours in Vermont, here's one way to make the most of your time. This trip includes factory tours, sightseeing, hiking, and even a little antiquing. It's the quintessential Vermont experience packed into 2 days.

  • Explore locations featured in this Trip List: Cabot, Waterbury Center, Burlington, Waterbury, Stowe, Jeffersonville
  • Category: Perfect weekend
  • Traveler type: Sightseeing, Shopping, Active/Outdoors
  • Appeals to: Couples/romantics, Honeymooners, Singles, Families with small children, Students, Budget travellers , Active/adventure, Tourists
  • Seasons: Summer
  • 1. Cabot
    Cabot, Vermont

Start Day 1 by taking the tour of the Cabot Cheese Factory. Arrive early to beat the crowds. Make a quick stop at Martin's covered bridge after the tour on the way to Waterbury for the Cider Mill and Winery.

  • 2. Cold Hollow Cider Mill
Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Waterbury Center, Vermont

Do Grand View Winery tasting as well. It's right across the driveway from the Cider Mill.

  • 3. Burlington
    Burlington, Vermont

Make a quick stop at the Magic Hat Brewery in South Burlington, head to the Church Street Marketplace in downtown Burlington to poke around for a few hours, then enjoy the sunset over Lake Champlain before calling it a night or grabbing a drink.

  • 4. Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory
    Ben & Jerry's, Waterbury, Vermont

Begin Day 2 by planning to arrive at the factory when it opens (times vary by season). Take the tour, get some ice cream, and poke around the grounds. Make a quick stop at the antique store across the street (gotta squeeze in at least one antique store).

  • 5. Stowe Mountain Resort
    Stowe Mountain Resort, Stowe, Vermont

Head up the road to the toll road that will take you up to the nose of Mt Mansfield (highest peak in Vermont). The road is only open from 10-4, so plan to be there by noon at the latest. Cost is $27 per car, but you can probably find a coupon at your hotel if you stay in the area. From the nose, hike 2.8 miles round trip to the chin and back. The chin is the highest point on the mountain and on a clear day gives you 360 degree views of VT, NH, and Canada. Plan to be back at the base of the mountain by 4:00.

  • 6. Bingham Falls
    Stowe, Vermont

Head up the road a short distance to a trail for Bingham Falls. Arriving slightly later in the day should help you avoid the peak time for crowds. Hike is 1.6 miles round trip. Falls are gorgeous.

  • 7. Smugglers Notch
    Jeffersonville, Vermont

Rest your weary feet by enjoying the drive through Smugglers Notch. Didn't really see any spectacular viewing places for sunset, but the drive is still worth it. Stop along the way at the caves to enjoy a little bouldering.

  • 8. Charlie B's
    Charlie B's, Stowe, Vermont

Nice little restaurant in Stowe provides a classy, but not too expensive way to unwind from a jam packed weekend. Get some sleep at any one of the fine area hotels or B & Bs before returning home the next morning.
