4.5 of 5 bubbles based on 1 vote

Iceland really requires a longer stay for the total experience but a lot can be accomplished in a weekend in Iceland.

  • Explore locations featured in this Trip List: Blaskogabyggd
  • Category: Perfect weekend
  • 1. Visit Thingvellir - a UNESCO World Heritage site

Thingvellir is important for the Icelandic history as here, the first democratic parliament in the world was founded. This i also where the tectonic plates of America and Asia meet (you can actually stand on both at the same time). This area is also incredibly beautiful and diverse in its landscape.

  • 2. Visit the The Geothermal Energy Exhibition right outside of Reykjavík

Visitors can see the power plant through the Iceland geothermal energy exhibition which is a state-of-the-art look into the harnessing of geothermal energy in Iceland. The center also has a coffee shop and has made sure that the part of the exhibition ´The origin of Geothermal Energy´ can be understood by those who speak English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese and Japanese.

  • 3. Have a cheap SPA experience before your restaurant night in Reykjavík

There are 20 swimming pools in Reykjavík area. It only costs few EUR to get in and there are many different hot tubs and saunas to relax the muscles after a day in the nature. Some swimming pools offer a view over the surrounding area.

  • 4. Walk through the old town of Reykjavik and see the historic buildings

Take a walk through the old town of Reykjavik and view the colorful houses of which the native people are so proud of. Historic building have been lost in fire which perhaps makes the Icelanders appreciate those that are standing even more. We’re sure that the Icelanders you meet on your way will gladly guide you on your way through the old town of Reykjavik.

  • 5. Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall)
    Gullfoss, Blaskogabyggd, South Region

  • 6. End your trip in Blue Lagoon - on your way to the airport

Blue Lagoon Iceland is the geothermal spa everybody has been talking about. Some people love it, others feel that their expectations were not fully met. Either way, the spot is still one of the top tourist attractions in the country. The steamy water is a part of a lava formation and the water is rich in minerals like silica. If you fancy the ultimate Icelandic experience, tick this one off your list.
