Shuckers: Best of Woods Hole

I was surprised to see that the only restaurants listed on the site were the typical tourist traps. The best restaurant in Woods Hole is Shuckers (Pie in the Sky is VERY GOOD, but more of a bakery that serves good sandwiches). Tuesday nights in the summer you will find it packed with Double Lobster boil diners, (single lobster on Thursdays), so get there early. Parking can be difficult as this is also a college town ("WHOI" or Woods Hole Oceanographic Insitute, as well as the "MBL", Marine Biological Laboratory are the largest landowners in Woods Hole), but it is worth the effort. Most of all, it's a great place to sit and people watch. The bar is even better, and they serve Julius Echter Hefeweizen...great stuff, and goes great with the lobster. The Mesquite grille can be hit or miss, and in general some people are turned off by the easy going attitude and paper plates you're often served on. There ARE two restrooms, and you'll want to use those early on too. At the very least, no trip to Woods Hole is complete without a stop at Shuckers. It should not be missed, but if you find you don't like it, the tourist traps are more than willing to serve you. As I overheard owner Kevin Murphy once explain to a disgruntled and disappointed diner: "I've been here for 20 years, it is what it is, and there are plenty of people who like it like it is, and return every year. If YOU don't like it, all I can say is 'sorry', and ask you not to return." The applause that followed was proof enough. "We" love Shuckers.
