  • 1. Gibraltar
    Gibraltar, Europe

A country? so close but so different. The hardest part is getting across the border from Spain. Traffic is terrible at times and it took us an hour to drive across. Turns out that the road into Gibralter town must cross the airport runway and if you time it wrong you wait until the plane has taken off or landed. Getting out was much faster, but I've heard of troubles there too. Just be prepared - and think about parking in Spain and walking through the customs gates. There are parking lots very near the border.

  • 2. The Rock of Gibraltar
The Rock of Gibraltar, Gibraltar, Europe

We were reading our map and trying to figure how to get to the gondola to get up the Rock - when offered the sales pitch for a van tour. A very friendly Gibraltarian drove the 4 of us up to the Caves, the Tunnels and the very top to have an ape experience. Best part was being able to ask as many questions about this place and it's people as we wanted - oh and of course the ease of seeing it all without a pretty strenuous walk. Well worth the price - 20 euros.

  • 3. Shopping Marks & Spencer or Safeway

We finished the day strolling the Main Street and browsing in stores. The Marks and Spencers location always makes for good shopping from Food to Fashion. The best place was a tiny store behind the Shopping Center on the big plaza that sold British food items - candy, sauces, butter, liquor. Coming from Spain the prices weren't all that spectacular but the variety was good. Brits must think they've gone to heaven - they just have to carry it all back somehow! We did manage to find the huge Safeway grocery store near the harbor and then WE were in heaven - breads, junk food, fresh foods, books, DVDs and even a snack bar tempted us dearly.
