  • 1. Ashwan beach in north Goa

If you want to have relaxing hassle free time enjoying the sun and sea, go to Ashwin beach. You can get a taxi to take you there and pick you up at the end of the day (arrange beforehand with the taxi driver), in winter 2006 this cost us 700 rupees per day, from and back to Baga where our hotel was. Its a bargain especially if you can get a few friends to join you. You can also stay in one of the beach coconut huts, at 600 rupees per hut. Its rustic, romantic and a bit 'hippie', lovely experience for 1 or more nights - depending how well you cope with the 'hippie' factor!

When you get a consistent beach seller try and sell you something (the ones who dont go away after polite no-no's), start trying to sell them something back. Offer your sun lotion for a bargain price or try and get them to swap their sale item to your used sun lotion. When you keep selling something back and ignoring their attempts, they soon leave you alone and go to their next victim, in a very confused mind!

  • 3. Mandrem beach in north Goa

Mandrem beach is near Ashwan beach, both of them are private hassle free beaches. The taxi for the whole day (drop off and pick up back to Baga) is about 700 rupees. The taxi driver will take you to one of the beach shack who will provide the free sunbeds and look after you for the day. You can walk miles along the beach and see the fish jumping in the sea and sometimes getting washed out on the beach for you to throw them back in...
