York is a favourite place to visit for all ages. Everywhere within the city walls can be reached on foot even the Railway Museum which is a short distance outside the city walls to the north of the city. A few of the sights will take you a while to visit and soak in the history of the buildings. Depending on the time of year you visit the one location The Viking Museum can take a little longer due to it's popularity you may find a queue. The Minster is also very popular but the flow of visitors allows you to enter at your leisure, there is so much to see and admire it is worth spending at least an hour maybe two to see everything, don't forget to visit the crypt if it is accessible. The Castle Museum is a must, there is a cobbled street with all manner of old shops to see, if visiting at Christmas then you may encounter some excellent carol singing with people dressed as per the Dickensian days. For the railway buffs go to the Railway Museum where you can literally spend hours looking at the old and modern railway engines and carriages, there is a mini train departing from outside the Minster that will take you to the museum. In the summer try a trip on the river cruises departing from Kings Staith. For those who like art, the gallery is in St Leonard's Place, at the moment undergoing renovation. The main tourist information office is also situated in St Leonard's Place. There are so many good restaurants in the city centre, Italian, Chinese and French In the area of Swinegate and Back Swinegate there are some wonderful bistros which caters for al fresco. Finally take a walk around the city walls, accessible from the gated entrances to the city, comfortable shoes are reccommended..
