Enrique A's City Tips

  • Wear loose, light clothing, because although the temperature might not be too hot, the humidity can sometimes make it a bit unbearable.
  • The tram and trolley buses are good public transport options for those who prefer not to walk, and you can always rent a car or take a taxi to get around more quickly.
  • There's also the possibility of taking a horse drawn coach in St. Augustine.
  • Almost every spot you should visit is in walking distance, so you can get around easily on foot and wander at your own pace.
  • It is best to visit in April and May, since its still mid-season and there's not a lot of tourists.
  • There are quite a lot of festivals that occur each year, so do your research to see what's on during your time in St. Augustine.

To kick-start your morning, there's nothing better than some freshly baked pastries and a delightful breakfast which is also very nicely served. Breakfast menus here tend to include salad, a beverage, and a delicious pastry — so that you have something sweet to go with that delicious cup of coffee.

A peculiar yet interesting place to stop by is the Wax Museum, which is unique thanks to its diverse display of more than 100 iconic figures from history, sports, and entertainment. For some it might seem a little bit creepy but for curious travelers like myself, it's a marvelous experience to explore these replicas face to face!

St. Augustine is rich in history and folklore, so coming to the Pirate Museum is a good option for visitors looking to learn more about what this port used to be like, the people that came here, and what treasures they brought with them. A huge plus is also the beautiful premises itself, and the view you can enjoy from the terrace overlooking the Matanzas River and our next spot, the Castillo of San Marcos.

There are lots of reason why visitors flock to the Castillo. Some may be attracted to its historical masonry and the 17th century feel that this fort oozes in its every detail; for others it's the mix of cultures that have converged here throughout the ages; or perhaps it's the story behind this marvel, and the life-changing battles that have happened here. Whatever your reason, I know kids and grown-ups alike will have a blast discovering all of its secrets and learning about its ancient history.
