Tips:  The trailhead is 14 miles north of Florence in the day-use area of Carl Washburne State Park. No permit required here (a rare thing).

Points of Interest

1. Start of Hike

You'll start your hike walking through an enchanting spruce forest of twisted branches. Follow this trail as it crosses 101 and heads towards a campground. Keep your eye out for the start of the trail as you walk down the campground entrance road. It will appear shortly on your right and heads into the woods.

2. Trail through the woods

At first you will follow China Creek but then bear right at this intersection as it heads back towards the coast and through the woods. keep your eye out for all sorts of woodland creatures.

3. Overlook

Pause here to rest and look for wildlife in this watery area.

4. Trail Junction

Here the trail crosses the road and you are encountered with a decision. Head down to the water and walk back along the beach to the parking area or continue on for an ascent to the Haceta Head Lighthouse. Take some time to check out the views from this area. You'll be able to see the 101 bridge and all the way to seal cave. You'll probably see a lot of cormorants on the sea stacks below. When you are ready, head back up and over towards the junction near the road again.

6. Sunset Beach Walk

Hopefully you've timed the sunset perfectly for this wonderful walk back down the beach. Use the GPS track of this guide to help you find the short trail up the hill back to your vehicle.
