My partner and I recently stayed in this hotel for two nights.
Our room was lovely and the bathroom had everything we needed.
The breakfast which was included in the price was absolutely delicious. We both had the full english the first morning and I had the eggs benedict the second morning. Everything was perfectly cooked the ladies waitressing were lovely.
The bar is very extensive and impressive.
Checking in and out with quick and easy.
We do have a few negatives but they wouldn't deter us from returning.... the evening meal we had their the first night was disappointing. This was a surprise when the breakfasts were so amazing. Also the restaurant and bar area were lacking in atmosphere. There was no character which was real shame. The restaurant was a bit like a premier inn restaurant. Functional and acceptable. Dimmer lighting and candles on the tables would have made it more pleasant in the evening.
The bar area had a lovely log burner which was lit and the bar selection is impressive however the furniture, a bit like the dining room, was very functional tables and chairs. Would have benefited from having more comfy chairs and sofas. The main thing we disliked about the area was the lighting. OMG it was SO bright! Felt we needed our sunglasses on. Harsh bright white lights made it distinctly clinical and soul less.
All in all a lovely hotel and good value. If they made it more homely downstairs with softer furnishings and lighting it would have made it a lot more pleasant.

My Wife and I went to the Kings Head Bircham 26th January for a meal and I must say it is one of the best I have had in this area. Its a lovely atmosphere and the Decor is very nice. The choice of menu is quite varied and can recommend the Oysters as a starter. The food is presented very similar to a top London Hotel and although the portions are not huge they are sufficient and filling. I had the Pork and my Wife the fish stuffed with Salmon. The service was very attentive as being a Tuesday the Dining room was quiet. The Sweet/Pudding menu is varied and beautifully presented as well the Torte I can heartily recommend.
The Bar after the meal provided comfortable seats by a cosy fire. I do recommend the Kings Head highly and hope it will not be too long before I return.

We had booked 2 deluxe double rooms for a 1 night stay. We were limited to 2 hotels as we wanted to stay with our dog, and we chose this one.

1 room was nice, spacious and had a fantastic large sized bed (room 6). The decor was fine, but not what i would have called deluxe. We also had left over rubbish that had not been emptied by house keeping which i found unpleasant.

The other room for my parents (no.10) was about half the size of our room, with a very small window and felt quite claustrophobic. The bathroom was also considerably smaller.

Our main issue with this room was it's proximity to the hotel kitchens - it is literally above it, and next to the 3 very loud extractor fans. As you could hear these very clearly I asked about moving them to an alternative room, only to be told that the hotel was full and the fans would power down at 9.30pm. Needless to say they didn't, and when i walked the dog at 6.30am they were blasting again.

Firstly, there was no way this room should have been classified as a 'deluxe' room. They should all offer the same amenities (eg. sofa in the room) and be located in a nicer environment than next to the kitchen and it's noises.

Secondly, whilst i accept there was nothing physically they could have done to accomodate a move, a gesture of goodwill on the part of the hotel would not have gone amiss to turn an unhappy customer into a happier customer - ie. reduced rate on the room/free drink.

So onto the food and restaurant - the restaurant was very nice, however on a hot and busy saturday evening please TURN ON the air conditioning!

Whilst the menu was pleasing it was a shame that at 7pm they had sold out of 4 dishes on it, including several of the specials. I would have thought knowing their numbers and that early on into service there would have been more available.

The food we did order was very nice, however the service towards the end of the meal as it reached peak time in the restaurant did ebb somewhat. To this end we left our table/dirty plates and vacated to the lounge area in the bar for coffee, which were very nice.

Breakfast...umm, how to put this politely...employ another member of staff if you have a full hotel!? In addition to being short staffed/slow service, the fire alarm went off 3 times due to someone burning toast. I would suggest in investing in a proper fire alarm system that is not 'toast' activated as this did get tedious. And then we did order toast, it was warmed bread and untoasted! We had to chuckle at this :)

In summary, nice food, unbalanced rooms and lacking in customer service - based on this we wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend, sorry.

Response from The Kings H, Public Relations Manager at The Kings Head Country Hotel
Responded 7 Dec 2013
Good Morning, Firstly I would like to apologise for your experience, but I would also like to thank you for your feedback. Although this doesn't change nor excuse your experience, I'd like to inform you that the fans are now set to be turned off at a specific time, our staffing levels have been looked over with a fine tooth comb and our specials/menus are updated instantly to any changes made and replaced where possible. None of this however, excuses your experience. If you are ever at all in the area, please feel free to contact us as we would enjoy the chance to personally make it up to you. Kind Regards, Riley.

I feared the worst when we arrived to find that though we had booked a superior double room and had the booking confirmed, we were shown into a "small double". However the reception staff handled the situation well, sat us down in the bar with a drink for a few minutes while they found us the room we wanted. From then on everything went very well. Splendid large room with an excellent bathroom (at the back which I suspect is quieter than the front which faces straight on to the road through the village).
The staff are generally young, well trained, smart and very pleasant, nothing seemed to be any trouble.
The hotel is obviously very popular with the local residents as both the bar and the restaurant were always busy with visitors as well as guests. Service in the restaurant was good as was the food with a menu that would cater for most tastes particularly if you are a meat eater.
We very much enjoyed our three night stay and would recommend The Kings Head for a relaxing break in what is a very beautiful area.
We were there for the bird watching and that was a great success as well.

Very welcoming hotel in the Norfolk countryside. Staff were very professional and friendly and their team working was commendable. The choice and quality of the food was first class and plentiful. Our very large room was a double aspect room at the front of the hotel was very comfortable. We look forward to returning later in the year.
