We (2 adults, 3 kids) stayed at Roberts Camp for a night. The Camp is basic but charming. After consultation with the staff, we were housed in the Cottage. This is a self-contained house with several bedrooms, a kitchen, a porch and a garden. The neo-colonial-style house was spacious, basic but fully equiped, and very clean. The garden was well-kept. It is a very peacefull place with a huge variety of birds. All of Roberts Camp is now very close to the lake - the rise of lake Baringo has flooded over 80% of the Camp and almost claimed the rest. Board rides on the lake can be arranged via the staff, you will be picked up from the Camp itself. Food and drink is available from 'The Thirsty Goat', the Roberts Camp restaurant. Have the goat curry if you want to get a tast of local cuisine. All in all, we had a great stay and we highly recommend Roberts Camp!

This is a run down horrible place to stay. If you are camping it might be okay. But we rented a banda. What a surprise to find a cockroach under the pillow. Later in the evening there were several others. But no surprise as the room was not very clean. We were surprised that for this price you share the toilet with the camping. These toilets are horrible long drop style that smell very bad. At night it reminded me of the scene from Indiana Jones, bugs crawling out, no way was I sitting on that thing. There is also no hot water in the showers. The food was actually okay, except on Sunday afternoon when we wanted to order some sandwiches off the menu to take with us on the road we were told that there is no bread made on Sundays.
I was shocked. The guide books and reviews rate this place very well. But it was horrible. Maybe it is assumed that it is good because the owners are White. But they really seen to be absent. Or maybe people are just blinded by the natural beauty of the site. Don't waist your money stay at one of the other hotels.

Roberts Camp is a completely different experience than you'll have in any of the other kinds of camps and lodges you're likely to stay at in Kenya - the emphasis isn't on luxury, but rather on being in the midst of nature in a wonderful way.
The cottages represent a real bargain -- 3 bedrooms, a kitchenette (with full fridge & stove) and bath, as well as patio dining areas. We stayed at Little Egret and found it to be comfortable and pleasant. Each cabin has a house keeper assigned who will help with cleaning and care, and can help with cooking if you chose the self-catering option.
The rooms all are covered by thatch roofs but partially open in places, it will be buggy at night -- what else would you expect from a lakeside spot just north of the equator? Make sure you use your nets, cover yourself in DEET/ picaridin before it is dusk, and inspect your bed for pests before you climb under the net.
The best part of Roberts Camp is that you are unquestionably in the middle of nature at all times. A birder's paradise, you'll see and hear every imaginable kind of bird from before dawn until after dusk. We arrived to find two small crocs basking on the lake shore in front of our cabin (Lake Baringo's crocs are smaller than those found in many other places, and while not to be played with or taken lightly, they don't serve the same risk that large crocs found elsewhere do). A monitor lizard was resident nearby, huge Maribou storks roamed through the grounds at times, etc. Perhaps most notably, on our first night we were treated to the sight of 4 large hippos grazing on the grass just in front of our cottage (definitely a sight that made us enjoy the second storey veranda we watched them from). Later that night, we heard and saw them grazing on all sides of the cottage, waking us up as they chomped away only a few steps outside our bedroom windows.
Staff was friendly and helpful at all times. After dark, they walk you from the restaurant to your accommodations to prevent any nasty animal run-ins. The restaurant served very nice, tasty and reasonably priced food and drink in the outdoor seating area (bug spray essential) accompanied by a continuous loop of dated American pop music. They will also deliver the meals to your cottage for no additional charge if you would prefer. The small gift shop on premises has a nice selection of handicrafts and books at reasonable prices.
The highlight of any stay here has to be a boat outing on Lake Baringo, easily arranged through the camp. We did the two hour circuit and saw incredible amounts of birdlife and other scenery and animals -- one of the highlights of our travels in Kenya. The staff can also arrange guided hikes in the vicinity -- while we didn't take one ourselves, the folks we talked with who did were extremely satisfied. There is a swimming pool at the resort next door (accessed through a gate in the fence dividing the two) available for a very modest cost for Roberts Camp guests. We also used Roberts Camp as the base for a day outing to Lake Bogoria reserve - about 1 hour drive away, and highly recommended for viewing the millions of pink flamingos and geysers/hot springs.
Note that the 16 km stretch of road from the town of Marigat north to Kampi ya Samaki (where Roberts Camp is located) included many areas that have been washed out in heavy rains, and at least one spot that involved fording a river crossing even on a dry day. On a rainy day when we drove back from Lake Bogoria several other spots were similarly underwater, and we saw vehicles stuck in the water or struggling to get across. Check out the conditions of the roads before making the trip, and a high clearance 4WD vehicle is probably a necessity (we were in a Mitsubishi Pajero, which did great).

We first tried Roberts Campsite a couple of years ago having been thoroughly dissapointed by Lake Baringo Club (shoddy service, bad food). Roberts provide camping spaces, simple bandas and self-catering cottages. We stayed at Little Egret, one of the cottages, by the lakeside. The children enjoyed watching the fabulous bird life (the main reason for many to visit Baringo) and playing on the lawn in front of the cottages. You can take a day ticket to Lake Baringo Club and use the pool there - but make sure you bring your own towels as that is not included in the price (anymore). Hippos munch away on the lawn at night and this particular cottage gives great views from the upstairs bedroom which has a large outside balcony. The kitchen is small yet adequate; and if you really want you can eat at the Thirsty Goat, although our eldest child did get food poisoning there and refuses to eat there ever again - it was a couple of years ago now, on our first visit to Roberts, still it's a nice place for a cold beer after a hot day lounging around.
Also been to a couple of the other cottages and would really recommend Hammerkop too. It's a favourite of our and about 4 hours from Nairobi. Lots to do if you want; or just hang around and chill out. Perfect.

Robert's Camp at Lake Baringo offers a campsite for those who bring their own equipment, as well as accommodation in Bandas, Safari Tents and a three bedroom house. It is located directly at the shores of Lake Baringo and it can be reached by a 5 hour drive on good roads from Nairobi. Due to changes in the size of the lake (as also at the other lakes in the Rift Valley), the site is much smaller than it used to be some time ago, but still it has a unique charm and it is one of the nicer campsites in Kenya. It features (cold) showers for campers, clean toilets, a roofed area to be used for cooking and/or in case there is rain, access to electricity, w-lan and a bar/restaurant called "The Thirsty Goat". The staff is attentive and helpful and assists in organizing boat tours, hiking tours, tours to Pokot villages, to neighboring Lake Bogoria etc. The restaurant offers cold drinks an a decent menue that includes Pizza, Burgers, Pasta, goat curry and other dishes, including vegetarian options.
Robert's Camp is an ideal base camp for bird watchers, given that the Lake features over 450 different kinds of birds.
