What a treasure. Our host, Victoria, was amazing. We were given a guided tour of the cottage which was built Circa 1540. The rooms were spacious enough and well appointed. Breakfast was more than adequate and exceptionally well presented. We were made to feel very much at home. A very enjoyable stay. Thank you.

Only stayed 1 night, but still received a warm welcome on arrival, as if we were old friends. The cottage is visually full of history and the pictures on line do not do it justice. The comfortable room provided a restful night, and includes all features you would expect. The only fault we could find would be the TV, which...

Warm welcoming and lovely breakfast..5/5!! It was a last minute booking so wasn't sure if we'd get in but fortunately we did. Great antiques and décor with a lovely setting. The breakfast was spot on and at a reasonable time...not too early!

We stayed for 3 nights at this property.when we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Victoria and Roger. The breakfast menu was very varied with the scrambled eggs were delicious. The rooms were a little small but very well presented. We would definitely stay again when down that way. Would recommend

A group of 3 of us visited Ferndown to play golf. Smugglers Cottage had 3 rooms for us all, in fact 7 rooms in total. The owners were very friendly and the accommodation was excellent. Parking is not a problem and the breakfast was delicious. All in all, an extremely pleasant stay.

A lovely stay at this character and quirky bb. We were made to feel very welcome. An excellent night's sleep and a fantastic breakfast that really set us up for the day. Some people have complained about the small rooms but the cottage was built in the 1500s so to be expected, if you want large rooms without the character...

Originally booked for one night but unexpectedly had to book a second night and luckily we could be accommodated. We had to change rooms after the first night which wasn't a problem and gave us the opportunity to experience two rooms. The twin room was tiny - better suited as a single in our opinion. The bathroom was small but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The original part of Smugglers Cottage was built in 1540 and was two workman's cottages. These were knocked into one and the back part built on in the early 1900's. Many of the beams are from the timbers of a Spanish Galleon wrecked at St Albans Head. On curving beams of the drawing room door, the ship's plumb line has been used and, because of the salt absorbed from the sea all those many years ago, the wood is now as hard as ebony. When built, Smugglers Cottage was one of only five cottages on the heath and woodland and consequently was probably used as a natural way station for smugglers making their way inland from Poole Harbour. Here in the comfortable, well concealed building they would sort and share, quarrel and fight, drink and laugh without detection. Now Smugglers Cottage has been a Bed & Breakfast of sorts since the 1930's. The cottage is furnished with many antique pieces which Roger & I have collected over the past 40 years. We hope you will enjoy eating off our Victorian mahogany dining table. The beds are modern and we hope that you will get a very good nights sleep before joining the other guests for our locally sourced and freshly cooked to order breakfast. We have car parking at the rear of the property and during the summer we invite you to sit in the back garden before going out for your evenings entertainment. We do not have a bar but are happy to provide glasses, etc, should you wish to bring in your own alcoholic beverages. ... more   less
