It is a really value for money hotel. It has a nice and really clean Swimming Pool. The rooms are clean. Very nice view and good road sound isolation. The negative was the following. The rooms smells smoke from cigarettes. The Sound Isolation from the other room was problem during the morning. The breakfast is poor. But for the money you give and the position of the hotel it is worth.

I was there as a teacher with a group of school kids 5 years ago. The rooms are clean, the swimming pool is small, the beach is near, although you have to pay for sunbeds and umbrellas, kids didn't have money to pay for these, so they got sunburnt. The food choice was really limited (there was some limited choice for breakfast and no choice for dinner, kids had to eat what they were served by impolite staff and pay for drinks, which they and their parents had not been aware of prior to the stay). The travel agent made the whole group pay for the air conditioning, which the kids and their parents had not been notified of prior to the trip either, despite the manager claiming first we didn't have to pay for this as airconditionig was free in his hotel. Later, however, the manager changed his mind and said that we did have to pay for this, which seemed a total scam.
Altogether, Tolo is a great place to go, nicely located, with a nice beach, shallow and transparent sea with a beatiful colour, the town is nice.
The hotel might be noisy as there seem to be a lot of school trips coming with kids screaming, running and slamming doors.

Disclaimer - I visited here with a school party and so I am aware that I open myself to the charge of hypocrisy.

Noise is the biggest factor in this hotel. It echoes and reverberates around the whole building and so I can sympathise with any 'normal' guests who find themselves here at the same time as a school group. I would urge anybody thinking of staying here to check carefully that they are not sharing the hotel with such a party.

The rooms are OK for what they are - the bed was reasonably comfortable. The fridge didn't work, however, and there was only one spare pillow. The locks on the window were substandard and I didn't feel as if I could leave anything in the room. The bathroom was very cramped and the shower was temperamental.

We were booked half-board. Breakfast was reasonable - the croissants were tasty and the apricot jam too. Dinner was disappointing, though, with the options limited. I have to say that service was good, however, with a very friendly waitress being most accommodating to our party.

This is a very basic hotel and I cannot recommend it to private travellers. I can see why it accepts school groups as these tend to be less discerning - just be careful that you avoid these otherwise you will get little in the way of sleep.

We stayed in the Esperia in Tolo last October 2004. We stayed for 7 days on half boardand we cannot praise both the hotel and Tolo in general enough!!

The room was fantastic, with free air conditioning and free safe..... ultra clean and very comfortable. The Hotle is literally a step off the beach with beautiful golden sand and crystal clear water. The locals were amongst the friendliest we have ever encountered, and nothing was of any trouble to ensure our holiday was a hit.

The Hotel done a buffet style breakfast and was plentiful. We stayed half board and the evening meal was faultless.... sometimes too much in portions..... 3 course every night then finish off the night at the pool side bar with happy hours and on one night all the drinks for the first hour were free!!.

Our Rep from First Choice was fantastic, originally from Sheffield so fully aware of what the brit abroad was after!!! we booked three trips through the rep all great value. We visited Olympia to the original site of the olympics, then also visited the museum and other features all excellently told by our guide who was both passionate and so informed on the matter.

We also visited Athens, up the Acropolis and to other sites in the city..... and we also booked a cruise and a Bar B Q on a remote island... the cruise boat was owned and run by the reps husband and it was fantasic what a day we went snorkelling and stopped on the island where all the food and wine was supplied free..... trully unforgettable.

I cannot rave enough about Tolo what a beautiful place... the town (only 5 mins from hotel) was plentiful in fine eating places...... seafood to die for... and plenty of drinking holes.... especially Gorrilas in the town what a place great music as you sit on the roadside watching life go by... no need to reorder your drink,, the waitress knows what you want and as you drain your last glass hey presto another appears......

We also visited Napflion by cruise at night what a place..... shopped till we dropped and the prices were very comparable...

I cannot say too much ( as you have seen) but i cannot recommend Tolo enough to anybody... its as lively or as quiet as you want it.... but all I say is you MUST go to TOLO once before you die....... its heaven

My husband and I have stayed here for the past 6 years, This past June we shared this experience with our children and granddaughters and it was wonderful. We did sightseeing, socializing, water sports, laughing, meeting local folks and other travelers, and got to enjoy the positive reactions of o ur granddaughters on their first trip to Greece.

What a great fortnight we had at the Hotel Esperia and the village of Tolon. Hotel staff very friendly, especially Katie. Rooms adequate and breakfast, for Greek hotels, very good. Position right across from the best part of the beach. You must eat at Chez Gilles on main street and Taverna Romvii on the beach, having said that we did not have a bad meal our whole stay. Visiting musts include beautiful Naplion which can be easily and cheaply visited by local bus and Corinith Canal and Epidavros Theatre but these are better visited on organised trips approx cost 50euro but well worth it.

This hotel sets a new standard for service - all bad. From the outside where it has been renovated the hotel looks great but it is a rapid downhill run from there. The service is appalling. We had a pre-booked party of 33 people. The internet was configured to accept 12 connections. When I complained the person told me to wait 15 minutes. I did and still nothing. A further complaint and he said "there was nothing he could do". I then found the TV did not work. I rang again. He came and checked and confirmed it did not work. He said he would speak to his boss. It was replaced in due course. Still no internet. The meal was of a similar standard - dreadful. A la carte with 2 settings of pasta, over cooked squid and bread and tomatoes with some fruit. When my wife went to get some watermelon there were only scraps remaining. She brought this to the attention of the waiter and was told that was all there was. The shower was out of the dark ages. It was a head connected by a flexible tube type. The water came out of about 6 holes. The rest were non-functional. It was a real challenge to get ourselves clean. Breakfast was equally disappointing. Oh yes, the internet still did not work in the morning. I would have preferred to camp on the beach.

Our family of four stayed for two weeks. Tolo is a great location as a base camp to see much of the Peleponisos and have a wonderful beach at a reasonable price. The mattresses could be better but the hotel is very clean. Our kids loved coming back from a day of sightseeing, swimming in the sea and then playing in the pool until 9:30 then going to dinner in town. Try any of the great restaurants within walking distance. We loved Chez Gill and the little souvlaki place right across the street from the pool. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and the prices were good. Be sure to kayak around Assini rock and out to the little island in the bay. We will defiantly come back.

I stayed at the Esperia for two nights with a group of 37 teenagers.

The Esperia was the fourth hotel we stayed at during our tour of Greece and was definitely the best equipped for dealing with a large group. There's a pool (which we didn't use), a pool table and a large bar. The bar looks as if it once had much more seating - perhaps the hotel has fallen on hard times...

We were all given rooms on the same floor, which was very convenient for keeping an eye on the kids. The hotel staff were in general friendly and helpful. We only had a couple of moans, one of which was that the towels in the rooms are only changed every two days and the heating system is inadequate for drying clothes when we'd been out at various archaeological sites in the pouring rain! The other was the grumpiness of the owner when one of the children entirely accidently damaged the sink in her bathroom. We discovered later that evening that he had only been quite aggressive, because he thought that my colleague, who was explaining the situation in Greek, was a student! Once he realised she was a teacher, he was back to smiling and saying all was well - interesting! The rooms themselves were good and many had good views out onto the beach. The mattresses were beasts, however. Very hard!

Food was good, although watch out if you're taking a group - tell the children they need to pay for any extra drinks at dinner! Breakfast was fine (croissants!) , although mainly cold. There was a toaster, however. We asked for breakfast to be an hour before the usual time one morning and this was no problem.

Location-wise, the hotel's right opposite the beach and a short walk from the centre of Tolon. You can easily access the nearby archaeological sites at Mycenae, Tiryns and Epidauros. Judging by the other reviews on here, the Esperia probably isn't that great for couples or families, but it's definitely worth considering if you're bringing a group.

We took our holiday in September 2006
The Hotel is situated at the end of the bay of Tolo,no noise in the evening and a lovely stroll up the main drag for the evening drink to watch the world go by and a lovely meal at one of the many resturants cooking a variety of meals, the fish was excellant.
The beach was just across the road and the umbrellas and sunbeds on the beach had the added advantage of a plastic bowl filled with water to wash the sand off your feet to keep the sunbed sand free-great idea!!!
Naflion is a bus ride away and worth visiting,so much to see, with an outside cinema.
Would love to return.
