Booked this on a travel zoo special offer didn’t know what to expect. This is such a friendly hotel, nothing was too much trouble, no marmite on the first morning breakfast they went and bought some for our second breakfast.. the breakfast is lovely and plentiful.. we had an evening meal which was delicious, recommend the garlic prawns, the Hobbit pie, delicious crispy belly pork and chunky chips to die for.. really el dente veg, certainly to my taste...
The room (no1) lovely and clean it just needs a grab rail over the bath and a shelf perhaps for toiletries.. very comfortable bed..
I think as we came in the winter they don’t serve lunch and open at 5pm, we were able to book in around 12.30 which was good, obviously the room was ready.. yes a lovely couple of days, storm Ciara was beyond their control.. will return to this very friendly hotel 😊

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights on a Travelzoo deal, which was really good value
We were allocated room 32 which was a superior room with balcony. The room was very nice, although a bit small. It was well presented, clean and comfortable. Being there in March meant we couldn’t take advantage of the balcony, but the views were very good. The room was a bit hot - even with the radiator off, so I’m not sure what it would be like in the summer.
Breakfast on Sunday morning is buffet style and served until 11:00, which we thought was very good. There was a good choice of hot and cold food and we both enjoyed it.
Breakfast on Monday morning was served until 10:00 and was cooked to order. We waited more than 30 minutes for our meals, which was far too long. When it arrived, my full English was a bit disappointing - everything was dry and I got the impression it had been kept hot (for some reason). My wife had scrambled egg with salmon, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
The restaurant/bar area is very nice and comfortable.
The hotel is located high above the town and is a good 20 minutes walk down a very steep and narrow road. There are several areas where 2 cars can’t pass, so you have to be careful. We used the local taxi company to get up and down, which only cost £3-4.
As we thought Sowerby Bridge wasn’t particularly attractive, we probably wouldn’t return to the hotel, but the hotel itself was generally very good.

The room was adequate but torn wallpaper and looking out onto a wall is not the best.
The bathroom again was in need of some tlc. Mould around the bath taps and seal hanging off the bottom of the shower screen.
I was informed that the rooms were due for refurbishment next month .
The newly refurbished rooms looked very nice.
The pub area is lovely, food on the other hand leaves much to be desired.
Sunday roast, the meat and the Yorkshire puddings were the best part. Vegetables were very under cooked and the cauliflower cheese was just sat in a very runny cheese water! Roast potatoes were also undercooked. One side browned the rest of the potato was white and almost raw.
Desserts were again very disappointing .
I was told that the menu was due to change soon so I hope the chefs can come up with something a lot better than what is currently on offer.
Prices were also very high for the standard of food .
I would gladly pay more for a better quality food cooked to a higher professional standard .
Breakfast again was a bit of a disappointment. When cooked to order the food was ok , the next day, it was left on a hot plate to help yourselves to.
Scrambled eggs were extremely dry to the point of being inedible. They had reacted to the bottom of the pan they were left in and had turned grey!
Toast was burnt , cold and left on the hot plate .
Buffet serve continental food was ok.
The staff were lovely especially Max and the lovely dark short haired waitress .

Purchased a two night deal on Travelzoo for £89, this included complimentary bottle of Prosecco, full breakfast both days and a late check out of 12pm. Wasn’t expecting too much at that price but was pleasantly surprised from the moment we arrived, Kay the manager was amazing right from the onset, nothing was too much trouble, including securely storing our bicycles. Check in was a breeze, our room (main building road side) was a little dated, rough around the edges, small, very warm and suffered from a little road noise. This said the service and evening meals we had more than swung the balance making for an enjoyable great value stay. As we had our bikes the charming town of Hebden Bridge was only an hour away (6 miles) along the canal, although be warned the hill back up to the hotel is not for the faint hearted 🥵. All in all great little two night break, well worth the money thanks mainly to the five star service that Kay provided.

We booked a 2 night break with Travelzoo for £89 and for the money, it was good value but I don't think it's really worth much more. The deal included a bottle of proscecco in the room but we didn't get that. Basically we forgot about it until we got home and I'm sure if we'd asked we would have got it. However, I think all the guests were on the Travelzoo deal and the staff would have been well aware that we should have had it.
We had a room in the main building which was very tired. It smelled of damp and despite being in an old building, the room lacked any character at all. When we arrived the radiators were on full and the room was sooo hot! (It was the end of June). The duvet was also very heavy and sleeping was difficult due to the heat. I think the rooms in the annex with the balcony look far nicer.
Breakfast was very good. The full English wasn't huge but of excellent quality and well presented. There was also yogurts, fruit and croissants but I didn't see any cereals. The conserves were also of a good quality.
The location is beautiful but it's not within walking distance of any other restaurants so you are somewhat confined to eating in for dinner.
It was a nice little break but feel no desire to return.

We stayed on a travel zoo deal and brought our dog and 9 month old baby. A call ahead to the hotel meant we were allocated a big enough room for dog bed and travel cot. Room 9. To be honest ours a mixed bag but we never expect a stunning room when we take the dog away and get a cheap deal, though sometimes we're pleasantly surprised! The bed as noted elsewhere on here creaks terribly and bedstead is cable tied together , lots of marks on wall behind. If the bed was replaced and the damp in bathroom resolved it would be a lovely room. Nothing too much trouble for lovely friendly staff, in particular Kay and Jean and the young man on reception who was unhappy to hear that our room wasn't cleaned yesterday and I war disappointed as baby is just learning to crawl. He instantly offered to remove the charge for the dog which normally covers housekeeping and assured me he'd tell the team for future, I was really impressed by this level of customer care.
Food was amazing in the evening, we enjoyed fish and chips, and chicken with mushroom risotto, and 2 lovely desserts on Saturday. Very pleased to be offered to enjoy our bottle of prosecco (travel zoo deal) in the restaurant with dinner. Sunday carvery we thoroughly enjoyed and our baby was again welcomed, chef happy to cut small slice of chicken for her and I helped myself to veg for her too.
Sunday breakfast was a buffet which to be honest was only "ok". Cold offerings are good but hot food not hot and was dried out. Monday morning we were given a breakfast menu and it was like eating somewhere else! Lovely big bowl of porridge, cooked breakfast to order, toast to table.
The area is lovely, we will visit again! But hope for a nicer room in all honesty.

The New Hobbit is an excellent little hotel. Lovely modern room (in the new block) with great views over the Calder Valley. The restaurant and bar are very tastefully decorated and the buffet breakfast was top class. We also had a meal one evening which was of a good standard at a reasonable cost. The staff were first class all through the stay from reception to bar and restaurant service. A nice chilled complementary bottle of Prosecco was provided on request. As for the location, the local town of Sowerby Bridge was located about a mile away down a very steep valley road which was not realistically walkable for most people. The jewel in the crown of this area is Hebden Bridge which is about 5 miles away. A beautiful little town full of bars and cafes and wonderful artisan shops.

My partner and I had a short 2 night break at this hotel and we couldn’t fault any of it. The staff are so lovely and welcoming, especially the lady who did the breakfast who greeted us both mornings with a smile even if it was 7am she was always happy. Compliments to the chef, the food was some of the best we’ve ever had, the steak and ale pie was simply the best and I highly recommend it. The gentleman who served us at dinner was also so lovely and kind. The breakfast was perfect, buffet style, continental, teas, coffees and juice, if you require anything different then will try their best to provide it. If you’re staying here then please eat at the hotel, the food we had was too good to go elsewhere and can’t recommend it enough. Our room (16) was small but enough for us both, it was clean, the bed was comfy and even had teas, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. We took our dog and he loved it here. We left him the room for a couple of hours and asked the staff if it was ok and they said if he was happy then it was fine (just incase there was a fire I wanted them to know he was left in the room). There is a small car park with ample parking, we never struggled for a space. The roads to the hotel are small and windy but it’s perfectly situated out of the way but close enough to shops if you needed them. Overall I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone if you’re planing on staying in the area and for the money, we think you won’t find a nicer hotel, it feels like a high end hotel but can fit anyones budget. Thankyou New Hobbit!

Stay well clear unless you like Yorkshire puddings that will chip your tooth, roast potatoes that have no potatoe in them, dry meat and mush as cauliflower cheese! The ‘manager’ Kay who took nearly an hour to serve us our starters is the rudest lady I’ve ever come across in hospitality who should not be working in this environment, I asked for ice cream for my little toddler to be told ‘he can have it when we have finished our mains’. I didn’t know it was a waitress’s place to tell me when my kid can eat there dessert…..
She Told my mum they didn’t have chips when my mum was kindly asking if she could have chips instead of potatoes , until we pointed out that it’s actually on the kids menu so then she said ‘oh well we can put you some in seeing as the kids are having them’
That’s the difference between this place and the other lovely restaurants in the area. The fleece, spring rock etc, will go out of there way to accommodate you. Not this place!!!
2 hours later and we had our dreadful food even though the place was empty and completely lifeless! What should of been a nice family get together completely was ruined. We didn’t want to complain on the day , for one we just wanted to get out after waiting for our food for so long and for two we didn’t like to make a scene. So the day after I rang and complained, something I would never normally do, to have the ‘management’ argue that because ‘they wasn’t much food left on the plate’ and only myself was complaining (even though I said my whole family said it was the worst Sunday dinner we had ever had in our life) she could only refund me my money. My dogs very happily got all of the food in doggy bags and I explained that was Why they wasn’t all of the food on the plates. I didn’t know refunds was decided on the amount of food left on plates….
They clearly need the money more than appreciating customer feedback and keeping a customer happy, no wonder I never hear of anyone recommending this place any more and the place was dead! Honestly stay well clear. I don’t know which was the worst, the lady Kay, the food or the service. Safe to stay I’ll stick to where we know is the best… the Fleece!!

We stayed for 2 nights on the Travelzoo offer and were not disappointed. The Room was very nice and had a Balcony with a Fabulous view across the valley. The Staff were ALL very friendly and helpful, we dined in 1 night and had a nice meal at a reasonable price and Breakfast on Both morning was very Good, fresh fruit and lovely large glass of Orange juice served with our coffee.

Would definitely recommend.
