Detailed Reviews
If your thinking of booking this place, do it!
To get to the estate consists of single track country lanes, Some very narrow, we had no problems navigating it, rarely had other cars coming up & down. (Maybe we were just lucky) But when you get there you’ll be blown away by the beauty of the estate.
We booked 4 of the cottages for 4 nights, 15 adults, a baby and 3 dogs. This place is incredible for a family gathering, all self contained cottages.
Our dogs were free to roam the grounds, no leads needed. Our cottages also had gated gardens.
We got to have a look inside the main house as it was open for viewing for hire, well worth a look if possible.
There is a children’s play area and trampoline in the gardens.
We booked a cottage with a hot tub, which was Exclusively for our use, which was a lovely extra.
There is a very small pool for all guest staying on the estate.
There isn’t much close by, The place is fairly isolated. ( so nice and peaceful) You need to drive to Totnes for the nearest supermarket, but isn’t that far. The cottages kitchens are well equipped, Tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk was all provided.
We requested a BBQ. This was perfect for us all sit out and eat together. The only down side was there was no outdoor lighting in any of the cottage gardens so gets quite dark but we improvised.
There is a lovely pub down the lane called sea trout inn, would recommend too.

You’re checking this place out and thinking should I?
Let’s put this out there, beautiful estate comfortable cottages great little pool and so quiet at night. Great wi-fi only minor is take an Amazon Fire Stick or other way of accessing smart TV. But when you arrive bottle of semi skimmed milk in the fridge, cleaning pack and dog friendly pack. 3 nearby pubs, one within walking distance. This place is not usually available due to weddings but it is very COVID safe and a convenient place to explore Torbay and South Devon. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
You have been told! BOOK IT! Or forever regret it! We stayed in Doves Cottage and hated leaving !

We stayed in Orchard Barn as guests at a recent wedding on the estate. The estate is very beautiful with amazing gardens. Everything in the cottage was newly renovated and done to a high standard. The cottage was well equipped with provisions for hot drinks, equipment for self-catering and plenty of parking. The scones, clotted cream and local jam were a key highlight of the weekend!
Jamie, the manager, was very helpful and still made time to support with any issues despite being very busy with the ongoing wedding preparations.
Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend the estate and accommodation for anyone looking to host a wedding or for a weekend getaway.

Stayed in Owl Barn ,recently renovated but not clean. Complained about dirty pots and pans and lack of for a family Christmas dinner for ten.
Living area not cleaned , thick dust, someone had left their tablets down side of settee and lots of crumbs behind and under cushions.
Dinning table and chairs still had crumbs on and hair grips in the wood grain table.
After complaining, the living area was thoroughly cleaned and we were given 3 bottles of wine as a sorry.
Asked for more dishes ,bin liners ,dishwasher tablets ,place mats and table cloth, all of which was supplied and Jodie who sorted all this was extremely helpful.
The kitchen is very small for a big cook.
Had to fix door handles to utility room and architrave came off the heavy spring back door in living room.
Found clothes left in draws and bedrooms need hanging clothes space.
Not our best experience, but we loved being together pre Christmas and made the best of it.

We went to stay in one of the cottages (Little Cottage) last month (June 21) and it was a beautiful place to stay in a lovely location - we had everything we needed. Very quiet, nicely kitted out, perfect for a few days away for work or leisure.
The one thing we struggled with was communication - we didn't get any emails confirming we had paid the full amount or booked. We emailed, called and then after waiting some time and getting no response, we facebook messaged. We finally got a reply to that and one phone call apologizing, hooray! Then when we emailed again asked for something, nothing, replied to a text, nothing.....
Just a bit frustrating and a shame as its such a lovely place - perhaps just very short staffed?

We recently went to visit Kingston for a wedding show around. We were super excited, as this place on paper looked perfect. Unfortunately our show around was raced through. Jodie (whose name we found out later in the tour) who showed us round didn't introduce herself or ask what our names were. We felt very unwelcome, as though we'd interrupted her day and were a real inconvenience to her. We were told to allow 1 to 1 and a half hours to view the venue, we were in and out within 40 minutes. She stood twiddling her keys whilst we showed ourselves the rooms.
When we asked simple questions about the capacity of rooms etc, we were met with such a defensive attitude. We sat down for 5 minutes at the end of the viewing to talk, she didn't ask us any questions or pay any interest in what we might have wanted. We didn't receive any follow up emails or specific photos that we'd asked her to send over.

We have just had the best weekend for my eldest son Dan’s wedding to Emma. Ably assisted by 7 bridesmaids and 7 groomsmen the whole time was perfect. A fantastic venue, great accommodation and wonderful food. Well done to Jody and her team who were on hand all weekend to see it run smoothly

I attended a wedding in this blissful place earlier this year.
The location is wonderful; simply exquisite for a wedding. A romantic setting for a romantic event.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was excellent and the cottage where we stayed was cosy and comfy.
I fully recommend Kingston Estate, and thank you again for finding and posting my favorite shirt that I’d mislaid during my stay.

Supposed to be a luxury cottage the standard is far from luxury, over priced poorly equiped. Cheaply furnished masquerading as top class. I give the accommodation a star rating of 2 and that is generous.

My husband, myself and my 4 year old daughter stayed in The Old Stables cottage which is part of the Kingston Estate in June 2007 - originally for 2 weeks. ETB rated at 5 star, however in my opinion far from 5 star! On the first day, dishwasher did not work at all and fridge was faulty. Carpets, although vacuumed, were dirty. Sofa and chairs in the sitting room, very old, smelly and dirty. After complaining, the dishwasher and fridge eventually replaced. the carpets and sofa and chairs were never cleaned.
There is a small fitness room, which didn't seem to have been used. Machines although new, had not been maintained in terms of new batteries, instruction manuals etc.
Owners of The Kingston Estate, especially the old lady partner was very rude to me during our stay and didn't seem to value the customer.
Not child friendly, although there was a garden with the cottage children were asked not to play in it!
After 1 week we left and stayed elsewhere.
Although the location is very nice, I would not recommend staying in the Old Stable Cottage, because it was not 5 star standard, so didn't justify the price. Service was poor and old lady partner a very unpleasant person!

Response from Kingston-estate, co- owner at The Kingston Estate
Responded 1 Nov 2007
This guest stayed here starting on the 10th June. The fridge was not cold and the dishwasher engineer could not come for some days therefore we supplied a new fridge and dishwasher within two days. The settee has been replaced but was not as described. No one said children could not play in the garden, we have children here all the time. The compaint that the carpets were dirty is simply not true and we suspect that the childs socks were getting dirty because she was running in and out to the garden. The time to state that you are not happy is on arrival, this was not the case, but towards the end of the first week we were aware that this lady was not happy and offered to reimburse for the second week. Her husband said they were very comfortable and had no intention of leaving, whereapon they left. She was very rude to our staff and to us. The next guests were very annoyed at the comments and gave rave reviews.
