Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at Hill Cottage for five nights as part of our five week holiday in southern England. This house is 420 years old, so has low doorways, low ceilings and a steep staircase. That being so, our room was of a good size, with a generous bathroom given the age of the property, and the best walk in shower we have come across in our travels so far. Our room had a king sized bed, wardrobe, chests of drawers, bedside table, tea and coffee facilities and a TV. It did not have a fridge but Ted gave us some fresh milk each afternoon after we returned home from our exploits each day. There is parking at the side of the cottage as well. Breakfasts were plentiful with a choice of cereals, tea/coffee, juice and the offer of a full English breakfast or parts thereof, cooked to our liking. It was served in the dining room downstairs. Hill Cottage is located next door to the Wheatsheaf Inn - a pub with very good meals and a lovely garden for sitting out in during this little heatwave. We ate at the Wheatsheaf on three occasions and had an excellent meal each time.

This is a proper little gem. The owners, Maggie and Ted, are extremely friendly and can’t do enough for you. The standard of the room was excellent and when we go back to Crowborough this is where we will be staying. An all round excellent experience.

We spent two nights with Maggie and Ted and would go back there again tomorrow. Everything about this place and its hosts lives up to what has been written by previous visitors - the friendly welcome, wonderful breakfasts, the most comfortable bed we've ever slept on - and a pub full of friendly people just next door. Honestly, I don't think you will ever find better than this...

What a find!! A beautiful little remote B&B run by Maggie and Ted. Warm, cosy, great quality breakfast, clean, powerful shower and the best sleeps in a super comfortable bed. I'm looking forward to coming back next week. Just what you need when working away. A home from home.

We spent two nights here in June 2021. Ted and Maggie are amazing hosts. They made us feel very welcome. The room we stayed in was cosy, the full English breakfast delicious, and the pub opposite (the Wheat Sheaf) perfect for dinner after a long walk in the Ashdown forest. Lots of options nearby for walks and pub lunches. We hope to return one day. Highly recommend :) P.S. Worth noting that the kitchen at the Wheat Sheaf pub next door closes rather early, at 8 p.m.
