On the positive side the cottage has lovely views from a hillside in a rural setting. We heard owls, and saw a red squirrel The downside of the situation is that there is a very steep shale track to surmount to reach it. The first time up - having had no warning - was a real challenge. Subsequently I knew to engage first gear and take a run at it and ignore the clunking from loose rocks. The cottage fitments need renewing. The dishwasher had an aged notice saying Out of Order. The old cooker and separate grill above it may have worked but there were no instructions. The microwave had plastic glass liner that was peeling. There was no WiFi free or otherwise. My wife was sitting on a settee when a leg suddenly collapsed. We are well past retirement age and do not jump on furniture! The double bed had a spring mattress which creaked annoyingly. Go for it if you are young and resilient but not otherwise.…
Very disappointing. Lovely setting, but a lot of faults. Couldn't find wi-fi so telephoned Donald who told me that there is no wi-fi in the cottages and hasnt been for 8 years as everybody uses 4G now. The dishwasher was out of order on our arrival, the tumble dryer did not work and could not be mended. the man who came to look at the dryer said that he would come back and mend the front door that was sticking badly, I was going to ask him to mend the bathroom door also as this was sticking but he never came back. The heating kept going off so I had to keep resetting it, as instructed on the post it note near the boiler. The shower is badly chipped, dirty and the handrail is on the outside. Only 1/2 roll toilet paper provided no complimentary shower gel, etc. Also no complimenary food basket, the washing up sponge was old and I found bits of bacon in the sink on arrival. I have put photos up on Tripadvisor. This certainly is not a 4 Star cottage, i have stayed in many cottages and this is the only one I have had an issue with. \I booked with Hotels.com and got in touch with them to complain, they telephoned but she said that the man was very unpleasant with her on the phone and would not discuss the issues. Please avoid Brocks Cottage.…
Left feeling quite disappointed we were their 6 nights ,this was meant to be a treat for my wife after a period of ill health.cost a considerable amount of money, could have been far better.arrived 21.00hrs after nightmare journey, brocks cottage looked really appealing.on the approach to it after negotiating crazy Rd to get there, stones on it the size of half bricks.all the lights were on for us,a Good sized cottage all round, lovely furniture and wall art and wooden floor through out the property, but after having a look around we realised the cottage was quite dirty, dirty sink(food lying in bottom),dirty cutlery and plates, dirty oven and hob and hood, the biggest thing dirty bedding and towels, dirty greasy bin lying in kitchen,on the back of covid should be immaculate, spent 2 hrs cleaning it up with Dettol wipes.spent the first night on top of the bed, bunk beds did not look clean either, company gave us crisp brand new bedding and towels the next day,we were OK after that or so we thought ,oven not working correctly, dish washer out of order, tumble dryer not working,no whirly outside fot clothes,no sky tv freeveiw, heating in need of service kept going to failsafe(alarm flashing)missing light bulbs, lovely walk in shower ruined by shower control falling off and damaging shower tray(small grub screw to fix)taps slack i tightend them up.all in all just needing some basic maintence, other cottages dont appear to be any better.i would say avoid.also read review july 2018 ,2years to put in order, nothing done.i think they have let these cottages go a bit in the last 5 years.…
Lovely lodge, left in nice state. Owner kept deposit and demanded more. Be very wary, take before pictures of EVERYTHING. Limited hot water - can’t heat hot tub. Owner notes coming and going of cars. Timed and dated. Nice place but rip off.
We have just returned from a 2 night stay in Black grouse cabin and we will definately return . Having read some of the reviews before hand we were a bit worried. Once we walked in we were over the moon. The cottage was clean, tidy, warm and cosy. It was the perfect base for exploring and it was lovely for those cosy nights in. We found the kitchen to be supplied with everything we needed for cooking .The living area was comfortable and very romantic,we were all cuddled up marveling at the view outside. Bedroom was cosy and clean . Bathroom wise could not find instructions for the shower but we figured it out and it was hot and powerful. The only thing I would add is as it's a dog friendly cottage a little bin would be great outside for poo bags . We ended up just putting the main bin outside the front door. That is the only thing we had to worry about the whole time which is trivial. Anyone worried about booking dont! its lovely and I honestly couldn't understand the bad reviews .…
