This guesthoues is simple and clean and very professionally run. Jeng's English is perfect making all communications very easy. The meals are worth the extra cost and were really special. It was quite a feast and varies each night. The breakfast was beautiful and very healthy. Hte meals are not in the room but across the road at their restaurant....

Magome, a beautiful town where we stayed one night at Magomechaya. We were lucky with a big room for 2. Toilet and bathroom you have to share but that's no problem. A clean place. Dinner and breakfast is in the opposite building. Dinner was one of the best we had in Japan and it looks all beautiful!!! Breakfast also fine....

Magome is a magical town and a fantastic place to visit for anyone who wants to experience old Japanese culture. This ryokan is clean and comfortable and the host is nice and speaks great English. The meal is very good but you must tell them before your stay that you plan to eat there so they get enough food for...

Magome is a lovely village but has very limited places to eat and stay. The best thing about Magomechaya was the breakfast which was absolutely delicious, but I was disappointed with the accommodation. The room was tiny and once the beds were made up, there was no room for the table or our cases, which felt claustrophobic compared to other...

Location is ideal in the middle of the small town. All shops and eating places are in easy walking distance. If you are looking for a traditional Japanese ryokan, you will be disappointed. Rooms are no frills. Parts of the inn have been updated, but our room was musky. Dinner and breakfast were generous and good, but lacked the finesse...

Jang the house manager was helpful and spoke English. There were a range of room sizes available, so ask about "how many tatami mats" in the room when you book. We had one "8-mat" room for a family of four and it was tight but workable. All linen, bedding and duvet/doona were provided. Bathroom/Shower room is downstairs and shared. Toilets...

Great location just in the middle of the historical town street. Many rooms available with very convenient kitchen lounge bathing place....and other facilities. With its own nice dining hall just across the street. Relaxing atmosphere. Only issue the parking spot is a bit hard to find.

My wife, 9 year old daughter and I stayed at Magomechaya minshuku in early July during our visit to Magome - probably the prettiest town in all of Japan. The lodging is very traditional and communal. The place is clean including the common areas. At the time of our stay there was no food being served - dinner or breakfast....

I was nervous about staying at a ryokan, the thought of shared facilities doesn't make me happy but this ryokan gave me a totally different view of ryokan living. Our host, Peng, could not do enough for us, the food was out of this world good and I could have eaten double of everything and yes the facilities are shared...

We stayed for 2 nights (a couple with a 11 year old kid) because I wanted to do the Magome-Tsumago hike without being pressed by the time of travelling to our next destination. The problem is that there is no restaurant option for diner in Magome other than at your hotel. And the Magomechaya was not open for diner the...
