Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a lovely friendly welcome. The visit was a family birthday meal. Drinks in the lounge and what a choice. I have never seen so many different types of Gin and Whisky plus lots of cocktails. The meal was amazing. We asked for a few changes to the items on the menu and it was done with a flair of beauty. We will definitely be back.

This was an unexpected stay! We were visiting Edzell for the day to do some walking by the river and the Blue Door walk ( spectacular and worth it, different review) After our walk we wanted something to eat, popped into the Panmure Arms Hotel to be advised that they don’t allow dogs anywhere other than outside tables. So we left and went down the road to the Glenesk Hotel , who couldn’t be more accommodating, they allow dogs and the served us lunch. They were so friendly that we decided to stay the night at the Hotel. This was due to the friendliness of Jen, Alison and Amelia. We hadn’t intended to stay away so had no over night things. Again the staff very helpful and pointed us in the direction of the local Spar. Food at the hotel was excellent, lunch, dinner and breakfast. The hotel also has a pool and spa which unfortunately we couldn’t use as we didn’t have anything with us. Rooms are lovely and very comfortable and warm. Wi-Fi worked great. Staff couldn’t be more helpful to to us and wee Harris our dog. Massive thanks to everyone at the Hotel and yes we will definitely be back but this time we will pack and use all the facilities. The staff are a credit to this establishment. Thanks again Ian&Diane and Harris

Superb experience. Wonderful service and excellent Christmas meal. Having cooked Christmas dinner for my family for almost thirty years, I wondered if eating out would match the family experience. I need not have worried - we had the best time. Glenesk achieves just the right balance between luxury and being that 'a special place' with being homely and welcoming. Some lovely design work and a very impressive collection of whiskies too.

Warm comfortable atmosphere, hotel staff were welcoming and the food was spot on. The only disappointment was that I didn't have time to sample their whisky selection - it occupies an entire wall of the bar room!

Lovely meal with great food and service. Our welcome was warm and we were made to feel at home with no rush. Will definitely be back for a meal. Scallops were very nice, duck and haddock starters were great too. Main course fish pie was very tasty and full of seafood. Venison was incredibly tasty.

For a four star hotel we felt that a lot of skimping had been done on 'frills'! No slippers, dressing gowns, no tissues, had to ask for teabags. The room was very cold and no privacy curtains at windows which were on the ground floor. Breakfast was very skimpy, choice of 6 items only, one slice of toast each! maybe could have asked for more but definitely not encouraged to do so. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable though the room was beautifully decorated. Hot water - advised not to use bath and run for ages in the shower not conducive to a 4 star rating. However, seems the hotel has a very good chef. Evening meal really good. Would'nt stay here again.

Four of us celebrating our Ruby Wedding anniversary. We weren't sure where to go as we don't know this area - we picked well. Ritu has created something very special here. Her staff were lovely and even lit the first log fire of the autumn for us. Delicious meal, carefully prepared. Also, the gins and whiskeys line a whole room and we got good advice on what to pick.

Food was excellent, and highly recommend. However, the whisky bar price list is not accurate, and we ordered several whiskies between us, only to find the bill was for considerably more. As we were invited there by overseas guests, they didn’t realise that this is not acceptable, but the next morning we went back and asked for a refund of the overcharged amount. Very hesitantly, they refunded the overcharged amount, saying they simply hadn’t had time to change the price list. So always check the actual prices they are going to charge for whatever you buy.
