Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had to choose this hotel only because our pre- booked overnight accommodation on 2 December in Brechin was cancelled at very short notice. It was the only one accommodation available nearby the Polar Express event ( Caledonian Railway) which I booked for Sunday 3rd of December for 11.15 am * The price for one night was £110 including breakfast. * It was extremely expensive considering very poor standards. * We were staying in room No4, the odour of the room was very unpleasant , the noise from the radiator kept us awake most of the night. * The walls are so thin that we could hear all conversations, noises from the next rooms including unpleasant noise of a visitor vomiting in the bathroom. It was ongoing and I reported that to the manager. I agree that he could not be responsible for the that. * I have asked for another room but manager explained that there was no rooms available. However they were available on the website for £120 per night. * The price of £ 110 per overnight stay was overpriced possibly by lack of competition from other accommodations. * The breakfast was cold, not very appetising and I had to ask for hot cup of tea and coffee. * Dining room was dark and cold and dining table was covered by cheep plastic tables cloth. * The attached pictures of the dirty and mouldy bathroom say it all. There is no excuse for such dirty conditions. * The very poor standards mentioned above and including dark, narrow corridor, smell caused possibly by lack of ventilation. Attached ; pictures supports my claim that the price did not reflect the quality of the hotel. * Prior to my booking I have advised the management that I will be staying in the hotel with my adult autistic son who is afraid of dogs and I have asked about possibly of having room not nearby but in was commented “but we don’t always know if guests will bring dogs. We will certainly try our best to make this possible for you though. “ I appreciate the feedback very much. * On the arrival we had experienced a very uncomfortable and challenging attitude from the manager. * My adult son with autism who is 6,3” might have said something or acted differently. A young staff member gave him uncomfortable , starring look which knowing my son made him apprehensive and made me feel the same. * When I remarked that saying that my son has hidden disability and he is autistic the manager he was rather rude making remarks about my email ( my son’s fears of dogs) and other unpleasant remarks. I had to stay in this hotel only because no accommodation was available for this night * Finally : * There is not a single excuse for such a dirtiness in the bathroom * Management should be more aware about hidden disability and sensitivity of that. * We did not eat in hotel. We have enjoyed good local fish and chips instead. The best part of our stay in Edsell.

My 3rd visit and weekly stay for work this year and felt compelled to write a review. The hotel is located in a very picturesque little village with spectacular surroundings including the river and glen esk. It is ideally located for anybody interested in fishing, hiking, shooting or golf or just general sightseeing. I have thoroughly enjoyed the latter two during the summer when daylight allowed! The hotel itself is very honest, not over the top and extremely welcoming from both staff, local users and staying guests. I found the rooms ( three different ones) and social areas to all be extremely clean and well kept with nods to Scottish tradition pleasingly evident throughout. The food I found to be superb and given the quality of locally sourced ingredients very good value for money. There is a wide range of options for you to choose from on both the breakfast and evening menus. The best thing about the Panmure though is the service from the staff that work here. The proprietor Dave is seemingly always on hand and together with his staff nothing is too much trouble. I had an instance during summer where my I needed accommodation at very short notice and although it wasn’t straightforward was able to fulfil my request. On a separate occasion a colleague of mine was travelling up from Manchester as wasn’t due to arrive until after 10.30pm. Upon arrival and without being asked Dave had some food prepared from the kitchen which normally stops service at 8pm - this is an example of genuine customer service and just one of the many reasons why I choose to stay here wherever possible. The Panmure is not perfect but neither am I. It has its minor flaws but they are purely subjective. For example I don’t particularly like the pillows they use, but I’m just fussy about pillows whereas other people won’t be. I always bring my own anyway whenever I stay away at a hotel so it’s not a problem. To summarise, if you are in need of accommodation in the edzell area I would wholeheartedly recommend the Panmure Arms

Visited this evening for a meal for my daughters birthday . Highly recommend eating here . There was 5 in our party and we each had different dishes from the menu . Each looked as good as the other and everyone was happy and enjoyed their meals . Between us we had fish and chips , chicken fajitas, steak pie and chicken maryland with kids chicken goujons. Puddings were also excellent . The lady serving us was very friendly polite and welcoming . I will definitely be back again and would recommend to everyone. Thank you

Tried their takeaway for the first time. Have to say it wasn't the best . Fish was not fresh and chips tasted like they had been soaked overnight in fat. Pizza not the best either and expensive. Won't be back.

Cancelled booking with just over three weeks prior to stay, just within their cancellation limit. Refused point blank to consider any refund or partial refund with an administration fee. As a consequence they are £360 better off and the rooms rebooked. Never again.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights to visit family in the locality. A very comfortable hotel in the heart of Edzell, very friendly staff who went out of their way to cater for us all. The rooms are clean with cleaners coming in each day unlike some hotels we’ve stayed in. The food is wonderful with an extensive menu to please all tastes, the full “Scottish” breakfast is delicious and hearty. It’s not the Dorchester, but if you’re looking for a lovely quaint, clean hotel with friendly staff and lovely food in a village setting, come here! We will be returning and looking forward to doing so.👍

Stayed here in 2019 and then again just recently. The workers here are amazing - friendly, competent, helpful, and a joy to interact with. The rooms were simple, yet perfectly adequate. The bar and restaurant are quite nice and the breakfast was great. Parking is free on the street in front or small lot in back.
