Stayed here for a single night and what a wonderful place. From walking through the door to checking out everyone was friendly, warm and welcoming. We ate an evening meal in the restaurant which has an extensive and full menu. The meals we had were lovely and can be highly recommended, with the staff being attentive and friendly. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped with a double bed, which I had a wonderful nights sleep, plus there was also a single bed. The breakfast is not to be missed, again with wonderful attentive staff and as to be expected great selection of breakfast food and drinks, with and exceptional cooked breakfast. As I have titled this review it is a little gem.
Had a date night over the weekend. Was a lovely atmosphere, clean, so many options. The chef popped his head out to check if everything was okay and it really was. Love the outside seating too. Will be back
I stayed here while working around Edzell recently. Staff were pleasant, room was very clean and well maintained, two single beds in the room which were comfy, good size tv, tea making facilities in room, nice and warm too! Bathroom was good size with a decent shower and decent toiletries. We were leaving early for work and accommodated each morning with a good hot breakfast. Also we were a little late in the evenings but the chef accommodated us by staying late and cooked delicious steak dinners. Thank you!
We stopped off for Dinner and were allocated a table next to a group of 14 who were celebrating a birthday I think. This was not an issue except for the language that was coming out of the Men's mouths, there were numerous occasions when the words F_CK etc were used. Not an ideal way to spend an evening having a meal with my Partner, 14 year old stepson and 5 year old son
David and his team did an excellent job of looking after us on a recent stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were cold when we arrived but soon sorted after a mention at reception. The food was great, hot tasty and plentiful - 16 main course choices! They always made sure we had full glasses. We were out early in the morning and when we returned, a tasty hot breakfast was served with lots of toast and hot coffee. One of out party managed to leave his car lights on, so had a flat battery in the morning. David managed to locate a set of jump leads quickly (from the chef I think?) Nice touch - thank you. The rooms were comfy with a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities (and a nice biscuit!) Lots of hot water and toiletries and a decent size TV. I had a great view of the snow capped Caingorms from my room. Lovely comfy stay - Thank you!…
We visited due to some good reviews on here. First thing as we walked in gentleman said I should be wearing a mask. I told him I was exempt at this stage he said do you just not wear proof I explained that I don’t need too. A bit of common sense would of shown him that my partner was wearing a mask. As we were walking to our table he made another comment about its amazing how many people say that they are exempt. Very very poor attitude especially considering that his was hanging of his face 90% of the time. Even when he was with the female staff member. On to the food and drinks. We both ordered a pint of coke. My partner ordered Roast Turkey and I ordered Chicken Fajita’s. Firstly the drink was Pepsi and we were not made aware this was a positive as we both prefer Pepsi however I can imagine that some people wouldn’t so my advice would be to make them aware. Very good draft Pepsi though. The Roast Turkey was ok my partner asked me to try a bit as she felt it was cut a bit thick. I would agree but was just ok. Vegetables and potatoes were cooked well but very bland no seasoning unfortunately. Oatmeal stuffing was tasteless and gravy was very watery however gave extra which was a good touch. Small improvements could make this a really good dish. Unfortunately it’s just very average and bland just now. As for the Fajita’s came out on a huge sizzle plate still sizzling which is always good. Chicken cooked perfectly which is hard to do. Also Onions and peppers not burnt again well done. However this was not Fajita’s this Coriander chicken. There was no Fajita seasoning and it tasted like pure coriander which was good but not what advertised. It lacked flavour which was disappointing. I received 2 wraps they were on the larger side so that was ok. Wraps had started to go hard at places but that’s because they were grilled. You get a holder for wraps it keeps them soft. I had cheese Sour cream and homemade salsa. No Guacamole. Sour Cream was nice. Cheese was cheddar and salsa was like a finely chopped tomato salad. Unfortunately due to the lack of seasoning on the Fajita’s it just didn’t work. It is a shame because again same as the Turkey a lot was done right. It just didn’t work unfortunately. As for the place itself it was quite dated but charming in its own way. It was freezing though. On a cold day like that I would of had the fire on would have improved the overall score. Hopefully you take on board the feedback as it will improve your establishment.…
What an absolute joy, very welcoming and accommodating. Taking everything into account for groups on a sporting break this hotel is everything you need and more. A late breakfast served hot and fresh on return at 11 am, nice beer and a superb kitchen serving great meals followed by comfortable rooms and a good night's sleep . We will definitely be coming back, hopefully for years to come. Highly recommended.
Comfortable, warm and spacious rooms. Our group set out each morning well before dawn and returned ravenous for breakfast in very late morning. Not all hotels would be so obliging! Secure cabinets provided for guns. Excellent evening meals. Would have liked to see a real ale available in the bar.
Stayed as part of a group. The staff could not have been more helpful to us all. Both the evening meal and the breakfast was excellent. The room was clean and well presented. I will definitely be returning to this hotel.
Stayed with a party of 17 golfers in September. The accommodation is warm and comfortable, nice decor. The evening menu was extensive and the food delicious. Same with the breakfast menu. A special mention to the young waiting staff, who patiently and pleasantly served a rather noisy (and tipsy) bunch of hungry golfers. We're already booked up for our golf trip next year.
