All was perfect and above expectations even: the welcoming delicate and beautiful garden, the hospitality and high professionalism of the owner and the staff, the warmhearted and clean atmosphere of the overall home and rooms, the fine and beautiful interior design and boutique area, the delicious home-made food and especially tasty shan noodles and pancakes proposed at breakfast, the pioneering and multiple messages and actions guiding the guests toward a environmentally friendly way to travel and respect Kalaw resources (bottle refill station at ground flour, respectful tourim posters and books, limited use of plastic, recommendation of sutainable behaviours such as not overconsuming food, etc.). More than a charming accomodation, this is a peaceful and harmonious way to enjoy Kalaw's beauty while trying and showing how to adopt eco-friendly travel ways. Congrats for all.

The beautiful setting among the trees, the convenient location and the delicious breakfast were particular highlights. The beds were also really comfortable and the woman who greeted me on reception was so friendly and knowledgeable. He gave us loads of great recommendations. The pillows were the most comfortable I've had in traveling in Shan State.

There is so much good things to say about Hillock Villa. Here is a summary:
First the team is incredibly nice, it starts with their welcome with tea and local sweets and goes on with various things such as advising you for tuktuk and taxi, calling for you to get updates(we had to do this with our trekking tour), our room was large and the bed very comfortable (Best place to start a treck!). Breakfast was home made with a variety of possibilities (jam, eggs, pancakes, fruits, orange/carrot juice)... Delicious!
And on top, the place is a little bit in the heights of Kalaw, it’s calm and surrounded with wood, and the house it self makes you feel at home.
Very well done!

Frankly I can understand a lot of positive reviews here as the place (at least from the outside) looks very nice and the breakfast (especially pancakes) is very good. But that‘s it.
The rooms are dirty (I was unpleasantly surprised by finding a bunch of black hair in my bathroom when I arrived but the hotel personal was completely fine when I showed it. Like it‘s completely normal), all the equipment inside (like hairdryer and kettle) don‘t work and it‘s very loud as you can hear perfectly people speaking in the room next to you. Also the bed and pillows are very uncomfortable (hard).
Moreover, it was not possible to pay by credit card as the machine also did not work.
So better avoid.

Just spent a wonderful five days at Hillock Villa. My room was clean and comfortable with plenty of hot water and a balcony. Service was very good - most of the staff speak good English and they are very keen to help with trip arrangements etc. There is a good choice of mains for breakfast (local and international) with more than enough side dishes.

The hotel is located 10 minutes walk from the town centre.

I’ll definitely stay here again.

We stayed there 2 nights. The room is clean and garden is nice. And the breakfast is good.

The bad thing is the noice. We hear everything and even somebody talk on phone next to our room. Other thing is, staffs are not available when we need something. They don’t have phone in the room, need to go to reception but mostly nobody is there.

The worst is the bed. I even feel the coin spring inside the mattress. I was suffering from horrible back pain and also connected to the neck for almost 3 days. Then, we decided to change the hotel.

The hotel compound was smaller than my expectation. I thought I would be surrounded by a mini forest without any concrete, but, unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way.

I made a direct reservation with the hotel, so, I saved a few dollars from the trip.

The room is nice and cozy. Always cooler than the outside temperature. The bed is very comfortable. Spacious bathroom, too.

Breakfast menu is limited. You can choose 1 main dish per day from 4 main menus, and they provide side dishes for you. If you stay long, it could become tougher for you to eat almost the same meal every day. We stayed there for 5 days, so it was just ok for us (right before becoming tired of the breakfast menu).

It is a 15 minute walk into town from the hotel. I think the hotel location is very good. I would definitely just lodge there every time I’m in Kalaw. This hotel really has Kalaw vibe. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 2 nights in February 2020. The service was very good, and they were always very helpfui.
Rooms were quite nice but basic. Although good for the price for sure.
Breakfast was definitely nice. Although it was quite a lot of food, so was a bit off-putting to read in the menu that you could be charged for what you don't eat (still it's a nice concept/idea).
It does get cold at night, but we were ok with the extra blankets they supplied.

Beautiful accommodation and very nice staff. The hotel was similar to European-style cottages, with a beautiful garden, which is in a pine grove. Breakfast was in the garden, so we could absorb the peace and beauty
We stayed in Kalaw for just one night.

It is one of the quiet and peaceful place in kalaw. Mostly, they don’t use plastic things . Breakfast is pretty good. You can get fresh shan traditional food as breakfast. You can walk to Kalaw Clock Tower . Price is fair. It is also good for solo, families, couples and friends.
