A Rural Living Style that best Illustrates the Nature & True hospitality of Myanmar. The Hotel- Kalaw Hill Lodge sits upon a 30 acre stretch of land on the Shan plateau, far from the hubbub of the Kalaw. The hotel has rooms which mimic the design of the local houses but are fitted with modern amenities and lavish en suite bathrooms. Just beyond the creek are cows, goats, Buffalo, pig and chickens; you are free to walk over to and around the farm, which will prove a paradise for keen twitchers. Guests of the Kalaw Hill Lodge are also able to take a spin in a cart led by oxen, and join a local family for lunch in the nearby village. It is not just overnight with us, it is whole experience that we facilitate you. Our Lodge guides take you every morning 07:30-08:45 to the whole experience of farming, cow milking , planting, feeding animals , visiting organic garden and OX cart ride. This is inclusive in your hotel room.

Stayed here for 2 nights. The room was large with a great turn down service - hot water bottle in your bed if it's chilly! The grounds are interesting to walk round. Tried (and failed) at the ox ploughing. The restaurant was good with plenty of choices. Having been in Myanmar for a while and wanting a different type of food for 1 meal we had pizzas. The vegetarian one was bursting with toppings. It is in an isolated location though so not suitable if you want to keep nipping to shops/bars or restaurants.

Rooms: we stayed on the ground floor as the upstairs rooms (which probably have better views) didn't have double beds. Rooms were clean, well appointed, simple but stylish with lots of nice custom woodwork. We had some trouble with the door as it's kind of sticky - to be expected when everything is custom made of wood. Room was very spacious. Good shower with strong pressure and hot water. Nice little seating area in front of each room to socialize.
Facilities: Fantastic views, great organic gardens, you can go and pick your own fruits and vegetables from the garden if that's your things. Plenty of space to walk around. Adjacent to some nice hiking trails to go up into the hills. You can feed animals at a nearby farm. Lots of space to run around.
Location: a 15 minute ride from town - this lodge is not in the center of Kalaw but well worth the short trip for those who appreciate the serenity of nature. Not really 'walkable' to town so consider either renting a car, bicycle, or motorbike if you want see more of Kalaw.
F&B: Solid restaurant - Asian dishes were excellent but some of the western dishes could have used improvement. Good bar and fun happy hour every evening. Breakfast good enough thought not amazing.
Staff and Management: Very friendly, strong service, really helpful. Were able to arrange bookings quickly at fair prices. Bookings manager very friendly and helpful. Overall the lodge's team really pulls the experience together. Overall: highly recommend.

Very nice resort. Eco friendly and the activities they have is a plus! They have their own garden patch and some cows. Visitors can experience milking the cows, picking vegetables or feeding the cows in the morning.

Breakfast was okay. Shan- noodles was pretty good. Probably one of the best Shan- noodles served in a hotel

The resort itself is very beautiful. The only down side is the accessibility to the place. Roads weren’t ideal and it’s quite far from any establishment. Probably could benefit from more lights in the resort compound itself when it gets dark.

Staff were amazing. Very hospitable and informative. Attended to our needs at every request.

4/5 from me.

Nature provides an idyllic location, as others have mentioned. My son and I took a room spontaneously after 3 days hard trekking and camping, and frankly this hotel is not worth the $175 we were charged. Balcony cushions covered in bird guano; rotting and badly maintained roofing, sleepy staff, food mediocre & generally not great attention to detail. We’d give this 4 starts at $50 per night, but for what we paid not worth it.

My husband and I stayed in Kalaw Hill Lodge unfortunately for one night only as part of our trip around Myanmar. I wish we stayed there for longer. It is a hidden gem of the bitten track surrounded by beautiful green hills and lush gardens. We loved their concept of growing chemical free produce that they use in the restaurant. The rooms are beautifully designed and the views are stunning! The food is delicious and the service was fantastic! Highly recommend a stop there.Thank you for your hospitality guys!

We asked a room with a good view and they assured us that we would get one. What we actually got was a room with two trees blocking the whole view. The hotel manager said, "There is a big group coming in and we didn't want you guys to be annoyed with their noises so we moved you to this side." There are mosquitos too.

We arrived here from Yangon & loved the peace & tranquility. It is off the beaten track along a bumpy road so you need transport but once there it is s haven. Fabulous views over the hills & lovely cool temperature which again is very appealing after Yangon. We were the only guests as it’s low season & the staff were FANTASTIC. So attentive & friendly without being intrusive & the food was fabulous. The rooms are separate lodges which are spacious & very comfortable. Sorry only had one night so we were unable to do any of the activities or use the spa. Maybe next time.

We wanted a small, good quality & friendly hotel as a base for walking around the local area. KHL is just that. The staff are exceptionally attentive and did all they could to make us feel at home. David is a star. Set at the head of a wooded valley, the landscape is stunning & we enjoyed exploring the hotel’s ground before a day’s walking nearby. We spent several hours sitting on the small terrace outside our garden villa (113) reading, drinking coffee & eating biscuits whilst soaking up the sun.

113 is a spacious room with all the facilities one could want for a few days’ stay – we really appreciated the large bath/shower room with its 2 large wash hand basins. Staff serviced the room daily to maintain its spotless condition.

KHL’s breakfast buffet of hot & cold dishes is extensive & the quality of food is very high. We relished eating breakfast on the large veranda, although we needed the sun parasol. Evening meals, snacks & lunches are equally delicious & good value for money. We did enjoy the complimentary pre-dinner cocktails as we sat around the log fire.

Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer – if only to enjoy the bedtime chocolate and hot water bottles.
