Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

What a fascinating place this is steeped in so much history. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Cooked breakfast was good. This was served in a separate building away from the main house. Dinner was again good, with all produce sourced
from the farm. We were fortunate to have a great table looking out into the meadows (dinner was £38.50 per person). Other guests shared a long table as you enter from the main entrance.

We stayed on the Twynihio room with the iron bed frame tastefully decorated. Very quirky!

The bathroom however, is in need of a serious upgrade. This consisted of a hand shower connected to the bathroom taps (it did look like something from the 70's ) and an old carpet that had seen better days.

We enjoyed our time at a cost of £158 a night for bed and breakfast. It was an interesting place even though there wasn't any real facilities. The walk across the road to view the barrow was interesting. All in all, a very peaceful place.

We held our small intimate wedding at Soulton Hall and it couldn't have been more perfect. Ann and Tim understood what we wanted and were helpful on the day without being intrusive.

The food is delicious and several of our guests said it was the best wedding food they have ever had.

We stayed in the room Hill, which was beautiful and romantic with a huge four poster bed.

The cosy, warm atmosphere was exactly what we wanted. I've read some reviews commenting on the old fashioned furniture but the style is exactly what you would expect for this property. If you want modern, then stay in a modern hotel!

Thank you to the team at Soulton, we will be back for another delicious meal soon!

Soulton Hall from the outside is very impressive. A beautiful building with a rich history. Sadly the glory of the building ends when you enter. The building itself feels like it was last decorated in the 1970’s, with tired decorations and furniture. The rooms were fine and functional but for the price, when compared to nearby residencies, my wife and I expected to be a little more wow’d.

The hotel is located on a working farm which acts as a juxtaposition compared to what is meant to be a luxury hotel.

It also should be noted that noise carries very easily throughout this old building. There was a dinner party being conducted on the ground floor where we could here constant voices and plates rattling. Thankfully the dining party finished at midnight otherwise it would have been a sleepless night.

We were attending a wedding the next day and hoped to watch a little TV before bed. Sadly there was no arial, and when asked the staff about a replacement, ultimately no one came to the room to fix this for us. In the morning this was brushed off as “oh sorry we forgot, we’ll get this in for the next guests”.

When we next return to the area we will be choosing to stay somewhere else.

We were sold by the idyllic setting and fabulous video on their website. We paid £320 for 2 nights in their adjacent lodge house. We have a 5 month old and a 2 year old.
The place was filthy, very tired and quite frankly, only fit for the local live stock.
We had pre-booked a dinner reservation on our first night, only to be told that they won’t be serving dinner as the other guests weren’t eating that evening. I had also rang ahead and asked if there was a microwave so that I could sterilise bottles. I was informed there was. There was not!
We were greeted by the owner on arrival (once we found him) and we were highly disappointed in the house. It was very dated and had a smell of damp.
We decided to raise our concerns, as we could not allow our children to stay in such disgusting conditions. The staff were very very defensive and just couldn’t accept they have massively missold their ‘hotel’.
We were not happy with paying, therefore received a partial refund. We did not end up staying!
Instead we stayed at the beautiful Hall down the Road. This was absolutely beautiful.
Please do not be fooled by the website and lovely pictures, the place is unfortunately borderline dilapidated.

We’ve just got back from staying at Soulton Hall. Linda R is absolutely right. I feel that there’s a skeleton staff trying their best at the end of a difficult time for the hospitality industry however as a former guest it really isn’t worth the money and I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody.
The £15 for the breakfast which is exactly as she says is an insult to guests frankly for the price.

All that said I think once they’re back on their feet properly they will restore the business to its former glory - until then I would give it a wide swerve.

What a wonderful place to stay. Soulton is a jewel in the Shropshire countryside. A building of real character and history. This was my second visit and despite the difficulties of government restrictions the staff could not have done more to make your feel not only safe but also very welcome. The walk over to the barrow is a must. The evening sun set on the hall itself made it glow and you realise just what a privilege it is to stay in such a historic building. It was not my first visit and certainly won't be my last.

We were disappointed to see that this lovely historical hall and surroundings had sadly declined since we last stayed over 6 years ago. This is a family run business and they are passionate about the place but unfortunately the service and accommodation is in decline. The once lovely surrounding gardens and drives are all overgrown and neglected.
The family room accommodation The Stables in need of a good clean and updating. One doesn't expect stained sofas and cobwebs at the prices charged or broken windows in the dining room.

The evening meal was amazing and the service excellent, but the breakfasts were not as good as before and not a patch on our previous experience. The website photos are misleading as it has declined since. The staff were pleasant but disorganised and several of the guests were accused of not paying as they booked through Booking.com.
In summary, it was lovely years ago but now sadly needs TLC.

Many thanks to the owners of this super establishment for putting on shows such as the popuptheatrestourbridge production of Midsummer Night's Dream which my wife and I saw on Sunday evening. It was a fabulous night in the grounds of this beautiful manor house and it was so good to see really live theatre again after months of lockdown. All the facilities were spotlessly clean and well maintained. The owner himself welcomed us in at the gate to the walled garden and he gave a little welcoming speech to the audience before the play began. It is so good of him to support the Arts in this manner and we wish him well for his future theatrical events and indeed for everything else this magical Hall provides.

Went for afternoon tea with my Mum. It was on her bucket list. Having been for dinner several years ago I was sure we would be disappointed. We were!
We were shown to a long table with 2 place settings with cheap looking paper napkins. A case of dead lilies was on the table. The tea consisted of a mountain of sandwiches which were fine. These seemed to have been prepared at the expense of the cakes. These were primarily (if not all) shop bought . Fondant fancies and party rings!! We were speechless. No scones but 2 Welsh cakes instead.
Another establishment 3 miles away charges double the price but it I'd a superb tea and I would gladly go there again.
Additionally the pictures on the website look nothing like real life. Yes, it's still winter but it was so scruffy and unwelcoming.
I am local but will not be going there ever again.

This is a beautiful manor house from the 1500s, furnished with period furniture. Very comfortable bedrooms with modern updated bathrooms. A full English breakfast is provided in a cozy dining room/den. The owners are lovely people, very friendly and exceedingly helpful! The country setting is tranquil. It would be helpful to have a rental car, as the closest town is a few miles away and the narrow roads would not be safe to walk.
