Totally disappointing stay! We booked 4 pitches, two families (one caravan one trailer tent) and two single travellers in tents, 9 of us in total, we have been looking forward to our group stay for weeks as we rarely manage to all get time off together, the weather wasn’t on our side but we were determined to make the most of our trip. I arrived and booked in after some of our party had already arrived, I booked in and made my way through what appeared to be a graveyard of trampy permanent caravans located on unkept fields and pitches that were essentially car parks, I was immediately put off, clearly there is a total lack of standards with the permanent pitches, tatty old vans with even worse awnings, rotten picket fences and old tired garden furniture and lawn ornaments literally everywhere. The park wardens were already at my pitch telling my friend which way and where to pitch his caravan….. then we’re dictating where I was to put my entrance to my trailer tent and car, I explained that we were friends and in a small group so would prefer to face each other he grumbled and moaned and then said well you can’t go any further back then…. I was on the edge of the pitch and not even put my trailer in to position, I explained that I would need to go further back otherwise my awning wouldn’t be inside my designated pitch, he grumbled a bit more and then left, quickly named the fun police we would see and hear the wardens regularly over the next few days, there were no other campers on our field at all, assuming most were put off by the weather if not by the dump of a campsite…. So the main facilities were a fair walk away, we used the porter cabin toilets and showers, the showers were ok but no temperature controls so my son wasn’t able to shower as they were too hot, the ladies toilets were ok but only one sink dispensed water at a time, the mens were grim, there was a large puddle of pee in them from Friday through to when we left Sunday, they were not cleaned at any point. The toilets were at the back of the cafe and jacks barn, the club house “jacks barn” was just a place for residents to get wasted and let their kids run wild, we had one drink and left, the music was ridiculously loud and distorted, we could hear this until after midnight at our pitch, stupidly we made sure that we were all tucked up in bed for 11pm on Friday so not to break the site rules, not sure why we bothered really, the cafe is fine and food is reasonably priced and was convenient with the poor weather making it tricky to cool properly in the awning. The pool was green! No lifeguard but not really a worry for us, probably the strangest thing was an adults only bar next to the pool, making it impossible to take a child on your own, if you want to get a drink you either leave your child unattended in a pool or on a bench or under the canopy and if they want the loo they have to use an old dilapidated porter cabin type toilet round the back of the pub they aren’t allowed in….. no changing facilities at the pool rendering it unusable to adults unless you are happy to do a soggy quarter mile walk to the facilities or further to your pitch, pizzas and paninis are available near by the pool which are nice enough and the shop is well stocked. The play ground nearest to us was nice until the older regular stay kids arrived and took it upon themselves to surround my 6 year old son, quickly rectified by his dad having words, kids will be kids, there were teenagers drinking and smoking round the back of the club but you know what we have all been there and done it, the noise from the club didn’t really bother us but perhaps if it’s open until midnight let the campers know that they don’t need to be inside being quiet/in bed for 11pm The lighting on the fields doesn’t work, there’s no lighting to the porter toilets, there is a major wasp problem. I thought perhaps the weather had given me a bad impression of the site however we woke up glorious sunshine and blue skies this morning, I’ve never packed up so quickly, normally we would opt and pay for a late stay if the weather is good on our return home day, we had to be off our pitch’s by 12pm we were up, packed up and fed for 11 and making our escape 😂 we did let our little one have an hour in the pool before we left which wasn’t as green and was considerably more chlorinated than the previous day. We definitely won’t be returning, the site has everything you need but it’s just all grim and needs major updating and sone time and attention, so many staff bombing around on buggies all day checking what you are doing and this starts ridiculously early but not one of them with a strimmer or weed killer out cleaning the place up, it’s tired, dilapidated and really not worth the charge. If you are the kind to spend your day in the pub getting hammered while your kids roam free then this is the place for you, if you like quiet clean family fun and a decent clean site, shower and loo avoid like the plague.…
