Nice fashionable rooms overlooking the valley. Good restaurant. The hot spring is not the best. It's a short walk from the rooms so you can stroll down the hill or order a shuttle. Great location for relaxing in Japan's countryside. The hotel also organizes walking tours on the historic Kumano Kaido trails through the nearby mountains including transport to the starting and pick up point. More

The Kumano Club is a luxury ryokan located on a hot springs about 5 miles from the ocean in the southwest of Honshu, Japan. Two of the rooms have a distant view of the ocean, and the other rooms have very peaceful mountain views. Our rooms was incredibly spacious, with a large two-person wooden tub on the deck, and a separate living area and bedroom, plus a small equipped kitchen. The dining area felt especially Japanese, with many private rooms, and the food was absolutely excellent; dinner is always an extraordinary 12-course meal. Some of the staff spoke a little English, and everyone worked very hard to provide outstanding service. There’s a spa with a large indoor and outdoor pool for soaking (men and women separated), plus massages and other spa services are available. No other westerners were around, and we felt like we had a unique experience of vacationing in a Japanese resort. We also loved the hiking and ancient shrines around Kumano. More

“Recommend rooms with large wooden soaking tubs on the balcony. Ocean rooms are the longest walk from the main area which we liked, but others might prefer the mountain view rooms that are closer.”
