This ryokan/hotel is quite amazing as it has as many rooms as a hotel but maintains the feel of traditional ryokan. Impeccably clean, the limited staff do their best to fill your every request.

Rooms are spacious and well equipped, they even give you two-toe socks and your own towel and bag to keep for the hot spring bath.

You'll likely find yourself taking the bus to get anywhere, which is limiting when the buses are infrequent and don't run late.

Getting to the ryokan from out of town isn't difficult: one can take the JR Highway Bus from Shinjuku and stop at the "Ikaho Onsen" (伊香保温泉) bus stop, then find the hotel after a 5 minute walk downhill. We arrived in autumn and the trees outside were already turning shades of yellow and red. The ryokan's interior was just beautiful - the lobby area and the walkway to the dining rooms were some of the prettiest I've seen. The traditional japanese rooms were pretty...
