Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took the bus (Nyuto line) from JR Tazawako Station (travelling with the JR Railpass by Akira Shinkansen) to Tazawaka-Obonai. Then we arrived 3 min. later walking up-hill the pretty family owend ryokan. Sayaka and her mother organized realy well our stay. We enjoyed very good english and outstanding self-grown food all the time. It was a pleasure to have such relaxing days at their home. The two inhouse onzen were marvelous and also realy nice enjoying a traditional hot japanese barth.

Thank you so much for your visit and comment. We're very happy that your really enjoyed your stay here, our meals and onsen as well. Your comment in German on our note "Guests' voice" was surprising. I don't still understand German, but I trust your word, "Don't worry. Only good things."!!! If you have another chance to come to Japan, please visit us again. You two are always welcomed!! Sayaka

This 7 room, family-run lodge is located in walking distance from Tazawako ski area. If traveling by public transportation, head for Tazawako station. Then there is a bus that drops you off within 3 minutes of their entrance at a cost of 560¥. The bus ride is a 30 minute trip from the station to the lodge. Cost of a taxi is @ 4000 yen.

The area is well known for onsen and the lodge has two onsen to use. They can be used by couples/families or by gender. You just need to put up a wooden sign when you use the facility.

The lodge has shared bathrooms. The facilities are basic, clean, and good value. If you are not a Japanese speaker, the owner speaks English well and is delightfully helpful and friendly. Signage is in Japanese and English. You won’t struggle with language here. Communication prior to our stay was in English and responses were timely.

The family makes a strong effort to make their guests feel at home. Arrange for meals at the lodge-breakfast and dinner-as there are no easily accessible food options in the immediate area if you travel without a car. Meals sourced local ingredients and the owner’s brother grows their rice.

Ask about their background in the area-skiing and snowboarding are in their blood.

We stayed as a family of 5 at Lodge Yodel for several days. Run with great warmth and hospitality by Sayaka and Yukiko, a mother and daughter team, Yodel offers ryokan-style accommodation and fantastic food for breakfast and dinner. Lots of locally-grown and wild-harvested food is prepared by the hosts who make sure every meal is tasty and interesting. Yodel is a comfortable and relaxed place for the whole family.
It also has a great drying room, well equipped with benches and work-space for setting up boards and skis. Sayaka's brother is a champion snowboarder (and rice farmer in summer) so he has made sure the place is well set up.
We stayed here while skiing and boarding at Tazawako, with the lifts only a short walk from Yodel. It's a great resort, nice variety of runs and not too busy. If you need to hire or buy gear, visit Mazak in his hire shop just down the hill from the main lifts. It's bright yellow so you can't miss it on the walk up from Yodel, and he's incredibly friendly and helpful (good prices too).
We are super keen to return for another visit to Tazawako if we can - would stay at Yodel for sure.

Thank you so much for your stay and review. We are very happy that you found our official web site and contacted us. We also had a great time with you and your family. We'd like all our guests to try and enjoy Japanese style meals, so basically we serve the same home-made meals to Japanese guests and foreign guests. It would be appreciated if the guests would try them at least. So, we are really happy that you enjoyed our meals. If you have another chance to come to Tazawako, you are always welcomed!!! Hope the infection end as soon as possible and see you again in the near future. Sayaka

Hi, take the bus "Nyoto line" at the JR Tazawako Station by the Akira Shinkansen from Morioka. The bus will take approx. about 30min uphill. Then 3min downhill by walking.
