Very nice Yufuin ryokan located at the other end of town from the train/bus station, about a 15 minute walk. Advise using Google maps when walking around, especially after dark. It has both public and three private onsens and options for both breakfast and dinner. We stayed two nights and had the breakfast option. The two breakfasts were both very delicious and completely delicious different. We had dinner at nearby restaurants. The staff were all very helpful and courteous. The hotel was a bit pricey.
This was the first place we stayed after landing in Japan and turned out to be one of the highlights. Very traditional place to stay and Yufuin is a beautiful and peaceful mountain retreat. The hotel was excellent. Our room was very large. Futon beds which were very comfortable. Relaxing private hot spas in a beautiful garden setting and traditional Japanese food. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We arrived almost 2 hours after dinner and they kept the restaurant open and still put on a 7 course spread for us. I highly recommend this as a must stay for a couple of nights.
This was such a fantastic experience. The hotel is extremely nice with an incredibly kind staff and plenty of attentions for the guests: yukatas for women, kimonos for men, japanese socks, welcome gifts, access to the public and private onsen (once in the morning and once in the evening/night). If you like Japanese food, please take the breakfast. It is high quality and delicious, while being really good price. Highly recommended! The staff is so nice, they are really helpful and do respond to emails very fast. Yufuin is a beautiful town, perfect to discover Japan outside of the craziness of big cities like Kyoto or Tokyo. Very happy we found this place.
Great staff, so eager to help. Staff speak enough english -- Miki-san a Filipino waitress is probably the most fluent -- she might be the only non-Japanese on staff. Tanaka-san who seems to run the dining room is super-helpful and speaks english too. Nakashima-san on the front desk was also particularly hospitable and professional. Large rooms mostly set up in Japanese hotel style, but a small raised tatami sitting section near the window. They have their own onsen including a small, private family pool that you can book in advance (no charge). They serve a beautiful Japanese style breakfast. The hotel is well located -- you can walk to restaurants and Yufuin's other attractions.
The staff is very very nice and helpful. Most of the staff can speak English. If you want a private outdoor tub, this is a must place. However, it is expensive and the room is getting old. The Japanese Style room needs renovation.
