Went back to Arimakan very recently. This will be my last review, but I expect I will be a regular visitor there from now on. Before this writing I re-read my first review, and I realized my second experience was very similiar. This time our party split into two rooms, once again we were given 611, though my wife and I stayed in 612. Dinner was served in 611, and in deference to my wheelchair-bound mother-in-law, the hotel set up a table and chairs on the tatami, instead of the more customary low table with seating on cushions.

We were again served Yonezawa beef, and this time given a choice of sukiyaki or shabu-shabu. I had the latter. I found that the water really wasn't hot enough to cook shabu-shabu properly, and ended up cooking the whole thing in more of a sukiyaki style. It tasted great, though.

The rest paralelled the first visit closely enough to not need a repeat. I absolutely love the variety of baths in this hotel, including a rooftop outdoor bath...

I'm sitting in Arimakan's room 611 as I write this. I didn't think I'd like this hotel at first, but it turned out to be better than I expected. In the more than 20 years I've spent knocking around Japan, this is the first time I've ever seen a hotel I'd consider to be handicapped-friendly. We're travelling with my wife's wheelchair-bound mother, so it was nice to find baths with relatively easy handicapped access.

There are a large variety of baths here, and the hotel rotates male or female accdess to different times of day, so everyone gets a chance to try every bath they have. I have seldom seen a hotsprings with so many choices.

Dinner was huge. The main feature was Yonezawa beef sukiyaki. Watch any cooking show in Japan in which they use only the finest ingredients. If beef is featured, it will be Yonezawa beef, not that stuff from Kobe with the over-inflated reputation.

Breakfast was also huge. I usually leave a hot springs breakfast still...
