Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dont waste your money ! Awful place to stay!!!!!! Looked inviting but it was bloody freezing! The Staff were great 🙏 Room-comfy bed, clean sheets but freezing cold. Had to get a heater because radiators were off. Bathroom- Clean but no hot water. Food- Breakfast offered way too late.so cannot comment Dinner was awful sack the chef he cannot cook. We stayed 3 nights,l 2 were awful. 1 was ok Burger and chips was edible. Beer was awful but got better. The staff are the only credit to this place. Well done girls. It is not a hotel! Owners need to bring this back to what it advertises and its previous well respected life or shut down. Rip off ! Disgraceful !!! Very disappointing!!!!

We stopped here for a refreshing drink, my pint of beer was rancid, my wife's wine was very unpleasant, my second pint of beer was as bad as the first, so we left. Will not be returning! Why a minim of 200 characters?

An absolutely grim experience, booked in for two nights, left after one. Room tired, housekeeping shoddy, bar with sticky tables and floors, I can’t even bring myself to describe breakfast. How this can be described as a hotel is beyond me, I’m assuming none of the owners or staff have ever stayed in a hotel. Best just to avoid.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch with my family, there was about 16 of us, a few vegetarians, GF and we all catered for with enough choice to satisfy all. The roasts were fabulous, beautiful fluffy roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings and the cauliflower cheese was just amazing. The Hotel and the facilities look a little tired but the staff and food certainly made up for this, definitely will be back.

We stayed for 2 nights and had a meal both nights. The meals were great and the price came in under £50 for two people, two courses and drinks. I'd recommend the 2 course set menu. The restaurant was busy with 2 big groups and lots of couples. We looked at other restaurants in the area and could've spent £140 for a 2 course meal, but it didn't suit us. The hotel is great and is within 5 minutes from the A1. The staff all work hard and are only too happy to help, bringing drinks to the table and organising dinner. The room is clean and tidy and spacious. They have parking at the back. All in all a nice hotel, with hard working staff and a great place to stay.

The room was dirty, holes in the wall from door handle in bathroom. The shower was dirty and the toilet was soooo noisy plus when you ran a tap. No hot water either, had to boil kettle on floor to use the nearest socket.

We had often stopped here to meet friends on our way south and always got good service and good food. A couple of years back the restaurant must have changed hands. Since then we have been back a couple of times and have been disappointed. The latest has put us off returning. The young lady who served us was very friendly and helpful and made our meal more pleasant as a result of her attitude. However, the meal itself took the best part of an hour to arrive, and there was only one other table of diners at the time. The chicken in my dish was totally overcooked and very dry, bordering on inedibleOther meals at our table were uninspiring and prepared without care. So £128 for the four of us which to be honest would be better spent elsewhere. Saved from getting one star by virtue of the efforts of the woman who served us.

Shocking bedroom. Dirty stained carpets, drawer hanging off its attachments, loo roll holder with empty cartridge with new ones next to it, no attention to detail. Time for a refurb. Wish I’d read the reviews before booking.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel over the Bank Holiday weekend as we were doing a Geocaching Challenge to complete a series at Grafham Water which was being archived. We checked in the hotel around 1pm and were given our booked room No 21 on the first floor. On inspecting the bathroom we were appalled to see the condition of the area around the back of the toilet, at the bottom of the basin on the wood and the condition of the area at the front bottom of the shower was peeled and filthy. We thought we could perhaps speak to the manager and get it cleaned but then when I flushed the toilet a horrendous roar was heard and the same occurred when I turned on the taps. We were told by a staff member that the noise was heard in every bathroom!! NOT as the next morning we spoke to an ex Vicar of the church there and his wife who said their bathroom was perfect…… We then went out for the afternoon and when we returned I went to have a shower but after running the shower for ten mins the water was stone cold. At this point I went downstairs and complained to the manager informing her that I had no intention of sleeping in the room and wanted to be moved. She told us that she didn’t have another twin room but offered us a double room which we went to see and accepted their offer. The next morning we had breakfast which was just a fry up, but the bacon and sausage were awful, the toast was stone cold as well. We didn’t eat dinner on Friday night or Saturday as we ate elsewhere. On Sunday morning we were lucky enough to have breakfast at The George Hotel opposite, a far superior hotel in every way, how I wish there had been availability when I wanted to book in there. We left the hotel to complete the Challenge to then drive home. In my opinion this room should not be made available to the general public due to its state, this room cost £90 each night and we were not even offered fruit juice or cereal, horrendous and I would certainly not recommend it to anyone. I know the travel business has been through a bad time but that is no excuse for cleanliness and hygiene. We also had to boil our kettle on the floor in bath rooms due to the the plug situe. Not a good stay but we did have our usual fun few days away.

There were eight of us for dinner. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Seven out of the eight enjoyed the food. Apparently, the guests who had the starters and desserts were very impressed. I only had the Stilton burger and it was yummy. Overall the food was good and fairly priced. We will definitely return.
