Talk about luck. We hadn't made any reservations (again) thinking there'd be plenty of places available during the first week of June (non-weekend) when driving around Scotland. Even our itinerary was loose and free flowing. So, when we started checking out places (above pubs, little hotels), we realized we could be doing a lot more driving and a lot more checking. Plus, we're not traveling on a big budget, especially with the US$ to the British/Scottish£s.

We stopped at two places, one was full and the other was just out of our price range; so, we said we can always sleep in the car if worse comes to worse (night doesn't fall until 10p and it starts getting light at 3a). How bad could it get. Plus, there are pubs.

Well, we decided to drive through some little villages just off the Whiskey Tour Trail; and, the first B&B we knocked on belonged to Elle & Malcolm Cooke of Auld Manse in Dulnain Bridge.

They had room, we checked it out, readily said 'yes!' to the question do you want it, and realized from the moment we met Malcolm and Elle and then saw the room, we were definitely two fortunate travelers.

The room had more amenities than most nice hotel rooms. It was so clean I'm sure we could have eaten off the floors. The beds were extremely comfortable. The wifi and TV worked. The big windows let in tons of evening sun. And, it was large enough to be able to enjoy a night 'in' eating our picnic dinner, catching up on emails, and just R&Ring.

The next morning our breakfast was huge and cooked to order. They had given us a slip saying please let us know what you'd like for your cooked breakfast, and, if it's not on there, let us know. We can probably make it up for you. And, this is after having a hot water coffee/tea maker in our room along with fresh bottled water and real glasses and china mugs.

Did I say we were in heaven? We were. And, better yet, we were in beautiful Scotland. Even better, we met two people we'd love to be around. Hmmm... they're hosting a June 20th BBQ for a defilibrator fund-raiser. I only wish we could be there. And, if you do go, please give Elle & Malcolm our best. If all B&Bs were like theirs, we'd never stay at home.

We were in Cairngorms National Park and couldn't find a place to stay in Aviemore. Then we found this lovely place in Dulnain Bridge, which is only 15 minutes away from Aviemore. Malcolm and his wife gave us a lot of good advice for our journey and were really nice to talk to. The beds were very comfy and the breakfast rich - they even had gluten free bred in the freezer for my friend.

We loved meeting Malcom the host, and his wife Elle who were warm and welcoming. There three dogs were friendly and for the most part kept away, but I enjoyed meeting them.

The B&B is surrounded by beautiful country, and well worth a few walks.
The room was very clean, and the bed firm and comfy. Free WiFi that worked well, and the room was stocked with cookies and tea and an electric kettle. Water pressure in shower was great too. There is a lovely sun room downstairs for just relaxing and having a late afternoon cup of tea.
Aulde Manse is located in Dulnain just outside Grantown-on-Spey. It is important because we had a challenge finding the place. The GPS on our rental just could not find it. It is NOT in Grantown on Spey, but in Dunlain. Also on our first night, being a small village, things were booked already. As we hadn’t previously reserved anything, Malcom called around and gave us some suggestions.. We ended up getting dinner our first night at the Cairn hotel in Grantown on Spey. Food was good but they were down three folks and we waited over an hour to be served and waited another 45 for food. But given circumstances, understandable. Just not preferable. Malcom helped get us reservations for our second night at a wonderful restaurant, the Muckrach Country House, within walking distance. The dinner was one of the best we have had on our trip through Ireland and Scotland.
My only big regret was we had to get to Inverness airport a lot earlier than we thought. Our 9:45AM flight became 7:15 am! So we left at 4am for time to drop off our rental car and catch our flight. Malcom kindly made a thermos of coffee the night before and boiled eggs and croissants and yoghurt and more for our 4AM breakfast. Truly appreciated and above expected.
Warm memories of Aulde Manse and the hosts. A gem of a spot a little off the beaten path.

We stayed for one night recently and thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Auld Manse. The hosts were very welcoming and made us feel at ease straight away. Our room was perfect, with all amenities we needed, with a lovely view across the bridge. The location is great, with beautiful walks and is very peaceful. Breakfast was delicious with freshly laid eggs whilst watching red squirrels was amazing! Would highly recommend.

We stayed at the Auld Manse (as a group of 5) for 2 nights at the end of August. We were made so welcome by Malcolm & Elle, and had a lovely evening sitting in the sunroom with tea and home made cake. They have thought of everything you would need for your stay including lots of information and guidebooks on the local area, boardgames for nights in, and flasks of hot tea for your day out. The bedrooms are decorated to a high standard, and are really comfortable. They offer a great choice of breakfasts incluidng fresh fruit, cereals, porridge, full breakfast. I had the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon both days as it was so good! Well done Malcolm :-)
Dulnain Bridge is in a nice quiet location a few miles from Aviemore or Grantown-on-Spey with stunning views over the Cairngorms and beautiful forest walks nearby. It's a lovely spot to relax and watch the hens, birds and red squirrels feeding in the garden. Will definitely be back. Thanks Malcolm & Elle.

My partner and I were looking for a relaxing two night break from our maniac 2 year old and chose the Auld Manse in Dulnain Bridge. We did not regret the decision! It's a wonderful B&B, very clean, comfortable and with a relaxed, easy going vibe.

We did lots of walking in the surrounding area - one day around the area straight from the B&B, and another day in Rothiemurcus, a short drive or bus journey away. Wifi was fast, the room was excellent and bright and the breakfasts were AMAZING. Made to order, I had Stornaway black pudding on a potato scone, with a fresh egg one morning. The next day, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. The fresh eggs were delicious (chickens roam around the big back garden).

Malc and Elle are terrific hosts. There are also three gorgeous golden retrievers, very friendly, and we watched fluffy red squirrels from the porch.

Superior B&B, will return!

On our way back from Isle of Skye we were looking for B & B for one night in Grantown-On-Spey, got there and because of some festival the town was virtually a 'no go' area, all roads in town closed off to traffic. So headed out towards Carrbridge, but on way through Dulnain Bridge spotted the Auld Manse had vacancies and Malcolm cutting the lawn, so a spur of the moment decision and we had B & B for the night, and an excellent B & B it was. A bit wary at first when we were told they had dogs, I'm not a dog lover, but they were no trouble in fact I don't think we even saw them, and certainly didn't hear them at night. The room was very comfortable, spotlessly clean, beautiful en-suite all you could wish for. Bit of a scary moment when the fire alarm went off about 10.30pm,thankfully a false alarm and Malcolm soon had it sorted. Breakfast very good, substantial set us up for the day and our journey down to Moffatt. Would recommend this B & B to anyone, we shall keep it in mind for when we travel to Scotland again next year.

We hadn't seen any reviews and simply saw the sign and stopped. What a treasure! Brilliant in every way. Immaculate roomy room, comfy bed, clean light and bright. And to top it off Malcom , welcoming and warm and made a fabulous breakfast. Elle was away but we bought some of her amazing art, straight off the wall! Wow, would love to go back, it was magic.
