A delightful stay at this traditional Scottish fishing hotel - truly comfortable from the entrance and lounge areas to the above average bedrooms which are decorated so beautifully in a modern style, but leaving you in no doubt of your Highland destination. The beds were the most comfortable of my whole holiday - with crisp white linen and cosy wool throws, plus waffle dressing gowns and soft white towels in the tastefully presented bathroom. All making it a great place to rest and relax and catch your breath while taking in the beauty of the surrounding scenery. Great choice at breakfast and the set menu at dinner is amazing value, The food was delicious and beautifully presented and the staff are all so friendly and helpful making it a memorable 'staycation'.

The hotel has obviously been modernised downstairs. When you enter the hotel it looks really inviting with loads of comfortable seating in various sections. The rooms seem small but were comfortable. The restaurant, however, was a bit chaotic, maybe because it was the end of the season and staff had departed but often we waited ages to order our food.
The food was fine when it arrived. It doesn't have an a la carte menu rather you have to order from a three course menu at a set price.
The hotel is dog friendly.

We stayed here for one night for dinner, bed and breakfast. Our room seemed quite pleasant and well equipped, including a coffee maker and hand sanitiser (no TV though, which didn’t bother us but may do others). The view at the rear of the hotel was a pleasant view of the mountains in the distance. However, the grounds at the rear of the hotel were used to store a rusty old bench and other clutter, which wasn’t very pleasant to look at. It really needs tidying up. We could also hear the noisy kitchen extractor fan, which was quite close to our window and looked like it was in serious need of a service or replacement. We could also hear noise from at least two other guest bathrooms, which meant we didn’t sleep very well. We quite liked the room but didn’t think it was very good value for money and needed a little sprucing up. The bathroom ceiling had a rather bodged repair, where areas had been covered with masking tape and painted over, rather than being re-plastered properly. It took us ages to figure out how to switch on one of the bedside lamps as the switch was behind the bed, with the headboard pushed right up against it. Dinner was very poor value for money at £35 each. The kitchen ran out of one of the starters early on, so we had to opt for an alternative. The main course of cod we thought was good though. We decided not to opt for the steak as we felt the £8 supplement was excessive. My wife’s ice cream dessert was good, however, my cheese board was minimal to say the least (three tiny pieces of cheese with two oat cakes). We were asked to move into the lounge area for tea and coffee after dinner, we were told we couldn’t have it at our dining table due to Covid regulations. This made absolutely no sense at all as when we went into the lounge there was nowhere we could sit without being far too close to other guests. We therefore opted to take our tea and coffee to our room, where we felt more comfortable. Breakfast was also disappointing. Some items in the cooked breakfast were hot, but others were cold. The kitchen also ran out of yoghurt and toast (first time I’ve known a hotel to run out of bread!). Overall, very poor value for money, we stayed in much better hotels during our holiday at far less cost.

Overpriced and under delivered.

For £160 we were expecting a really good hotel. Sadly, it was lacking the basics and we left feeling cheated. We’re doing the NC500 and found other hotels at half the price significantly exceeded this place.

There was no television in the room, something which even a basic Travelodge provides you with for £25 a night. The room was overlooking the roof. There were no complimentary biscuits and one teabag of English breakfast tea (we had to chase reception for more). The wood in our bathroom had not been painted properly making it look uncared for, and our double bed was two singles put together with a big dip in the middle. There were only two plug sockets in the room, one for the kettle and one near the bed for the heater meaning you could only plug in one bedside lamp at a time and not be able to power the other or the heater. Again, a basic Travelodge would have more sockets and possibly USB ones yet a £160 a night hotel does not. The curtains were not blacked out and had big gaps at the side meaning that the light at sunrise woke us up at 4am - things that wouldn’t have been an issue if the price was less.

At breakfast the waiter was less than cheerful and somehow thought I could drink a pot of tea without a cup. He didn’t ask if our food or stay that night was okay, nor asking if we wanted more drinks.

Checkout is early compared to a lot of hotels at 1000hrs. A member of staff walked straight into our room with their own key at 0940hrs without even knocking - we were still showering at the time.

There was no one on reception when checking out so we couldn’t raise the issues with the management.

Not a positive experience.

The lounge areas of the hotel are fabulous. Huge open fire, thick rugs, comfy chairs and sofas, well stocked bar. The dining room was beautiful with crisp white linen, flowers, and silver condiments. The food was delicious. Clearly there are many guests who come regularly and know one another, but this added to the very friendly atmosphere. The staff and owners were wonderful, very helpful and efficient. The only downside was our room. It was very nicely decorated and very comfortable but the only window overlooked the kitchen and was quite dark, even with the lights on. We could also hear the guests upstairs moving about. It was still a very relaxing stay in a lovely hotel, thank you.

I had a wonderful week in August at this Hotel. My room looked out the back to the harbour area and the sea.everything was so comfortable. The bed, the delicious lotions and potions in the bathroom, the views. The food is a real highlight here. Breakfast was simply delicious and the dinner in the evening was one of the biggest bargains you can buy anywhere in Scotland. four courses of fine food presented beautifully. Staff were simply great. One of the things I love about this place is the community.I was on my own and every night I sat next to another single guest and we could chat over dinner. Then we went through to the lounge for coffee and I chatted to the other guests. I was on my own but never felt alone. I want to go back. Highly recommended. If it could be improved then it would be soundproofing as the walls between the rooms are not thick. You can hear the neighbour snoring and the sound of the alarm clock. But I was not lonely. Just great.

Recommended halt for anyone in far North of Scotland wheter you're on the NC500 or just a short break. Great location with beautiful scenery.
Hotel is very pleasant with good size rooms, very clean with good food and a very nice bar with a log fire. Staff are first class and cater to your every need, As with most hotels on the NC500 expect to pay a bit more than other parts of the country.

This is a great place with a talented chef. Although we had a few gripes with the room we would certainly return. Our room was very small, with only a standard double, saying that there is a beautiful lounge with an open fireplace, so no need to stay in the room. The minor issues I think are down to staff shortages, not their fault but forced on them! There are two points that spoiled the room, there are only two power sockets for kettle, coffee machine, lamp, radio, hair dryer and anything you want to plug in! The mirror is not near the socket for hair drying! And design over function, you have to take the radiator cover off the wall to turn it on.
The staff were all excellent,

Traditional fishing hotel, recently updated decor in the en-suite bedrooms. Family owned with a very welcoming, friendly feel. Good wifi connection despite in the middle of nowhere. The accommodation has its own car park.

Four course evening meal £35/head, which is exceptional value. Menu is short but changes daily with a good variety. Excellent quality of food with locally sourced ingredients. Cosy lounge with wood burner for after dinner drinks.

Very reasonable considering the remote location and freshly cooked to order, good quality breakfast included.

I made a booking at this hotel, 3 months in advance of my intended stay. Shortly afterwards I realised I’d made a mistake and needed to cancel.

I contacted the property within a matter of hours of making the booking and requested to cancel.

Eventually they got back to me and cancelled the booking, withholding a £30 booking fee. This is over 20% of the entire booking cost.

I appreciate that deposits are in place to stop people abusing the system, and in some cases to cover online banking fees.

However, for a booking made 3 months in advance and cancelled almost immediately, this is an appalling display of greed and mean spiritedness.
