Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very compact and efficient safari lodge tucked away in a conservancy in Tsavo east in Voi.

A comfortable lodge with about 40 rooms all overlooking the water hole.
Clean comfortable rooms which can house 3 pax with 1 double and 1 single bed with a balcony from where u can view the buffaloes, elephants, zebras impalas and sometimes lions too all coming in for a drink of clean water.
The food is good with vegetarian choices and italian n indian cuisine available.
The staff were friendly too and they have their vehicles for a safari run available on prior request.
Well maintained lodge.

This is a beautiful sanctuary that is easily accessible being a short 2hr drive from Mombasa.
Prior booking is required if you want to take lunch though I'm not sure if it's needed for the drive alone (best package is lunch-inclusive).
The game drive is very relaxing and you don't need a guide as roads are well marked and during peak season you can follow the tour vans as long as you have a good 4WD.
Spotted good game mostly dears, warthogs but sadly only one elephant and no giraffe. Highlight was seeing a pride of lions resting in the hot afternoon sun.
Lunch was a good experience and we ate to our fill.

Located bordering Tsavo East, this is a private reserve in it's own grounds. Firstly, the staff are wonderful and cater to your every need with a smile. The lodge has 40 rooms which can sleep 3 people in 1 x double and 1 x single on 2 floors and all overlook the waterhole with balconies and the same applies to the restaurant. The waterhole is a magnet for animals in the dry season including elephants of all ages, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, impalas & warthogs plus if you are lucky lions and cheetahs, usually in the evening hours. Mongoose and birds of all descriptions are also around. Meals are generally buffet style unless the numbers are low when you will be given chicken or beef plus soup, salad and dessert (usually fruit). If not content with sitting in your room, you are free to drive around the reserve, your car may collect some red dust but it's worth it to see animals in their natural environment & you can hire a ranger/vehicle to drive you round if you prefer. The lodge is excellent value for money and the friendly staff really make it wonderful. Go & enjoy for yourself.

If, like my wife and son, you were expecting a quiet, restful Easter break, observing and listening to animals visiting the water hole, you would have been disappointed. The design of the main lodge lacks space and, upon entry, you are almost straight into the restaurant. There is no reception area with comfortable chairs and sofas where you can socialise and admire the decor like other lodges, just a small ticket office-type counter where you check in. In fact, all the chairs in the lodge, including in the bedrooms, are canvas directors chairs. The lodge was very busy, probably full, and with nowhere else to socialise, guests gravitated onto the observation veranda. There was a notice requesting quiet here, presumably for the sake of the animals, but this was neither adhered to nor enforced. During meals, young children chased each other up and down, around the tables and even into the serving area where there was an open, very hot barbecue and guests carrying plates of food. This was tolerated by the restaurant staff whereas they should surely have spoken politely to the children's parents to put a stop to this dangerous behaviour. The food was acceptable - the soups were delicious - but the desserts were always stodgy and heavy with nothing light on offer. However, the lodge's location is stunning with natural vistas and beautifully kept gardens and my wife and son had a lovely room which looked straight out onto where the elephants would come to rest a few feet away! It was wonderful to see such a variety of wildlife coming to the waterhole but some species were wary of the noise emanating from guests socialising on the veranda. They particularly praised the excellent and considerate service provided by their room steward, Lameck, who went "the extra mile" to ensure that they were happy and had everything they needed. All the room stewards were cheerful and friendly and always had a chat as my wife and son passed them. This lodge does not compare well with others we have visited many times as a family since 2007. This is such a pity as the location is unique and the lodge has all the potential to become an outstanding place to stay if only the owners were to capitalise on it.

We drove by here after a fantastic time at Tsavo East. Kids were hungry (adults weren't as we had a huge buffet breakfast prior). We told them as we sat down and staff were ok with it. So adults ordered some drinks and our 2 kids (3 and 5yo) were brought some food on a plate (small portion of white rice, potatoes and small bit of pasta) by a waiter. We asked 3 times how much it was and kept getting the same 'dont worry we will sort it out later' answer. So the bill came and they wanted to charge USD28 per plate!!! What a joke!! I spoke to the cashier and after much negotiation they gave a 50% discount! The kids were just given 1 small plate!!!
Still too expensive!!! This place is a rip off!! We were considering staying here but after seeing how greedy they were NO THANK YOU!! Spoilt our afternoon. Good thing we met less greedy people along the way. Avoid this place!
Note that everyone else around here was having a lunch buffet (ie getting their own food, having salad, main course and dessert which came with the buffet) whilte our kids were served by our waiter and given a plate of food.

The weather was unhelpful in that the rains have resulted in many watering holes and the grass is very high. One of the main features of the Lodge is the watering hole right in front of the verandah, but there were only Maribou storks and a few other birds.
The facilities are very basic as is the food. Everything worked but it lacked imagination. As an example the front verandah area for game viewing was roped off because it had just been varnished but there was no apology. The element of welcome is missing.
On arrival in the afternoon we were subjected to a family playing Indian music laudable on the verandah/dining area.

Having made several phone calls to book the place, but not getting any feedback (always a promise someone will call you back which never happened), we did not give up, but ended up at the gate to book for the 1st Jan on our way to Mombasa. The watchman shared with us another number whereby someone must answer. We got someone to whom I asked for availability and made the booking for one night. On telling him/her if we can come in to pay we were told no need booking is confirmed. Up to that point gates were not opened for us to go in.
Come 1st we drive to the lodge only to be given a guest list to confirm if our names are there at the gate. And our names were not there! To call the person again he said we never booked, doesn't recall, many people know him/her by name etc etc and they are fully booked. Oh by the way we were not given permission once again to enter the gate!
Well he gave us an alternative but that was not our choice and does not compensate on the lack of service and interest. A very big disappointment to start the New Year with.
Of course now it is OFF our bucket list..

Very covid safe!! - My wife and I recently took an amazing 4-day safari, of which the Ngutuni Lodge was one night’s ‘full board’ stay. All staff were attentive, caring and considerate to our needs. The room was very clean and well maintained. We had a great view of the watering hole, although the design of the building gave the impression all rooms had a great view! The food was excellent. Most definitely would have no reservations in recommending this lodge to our family and friends for their considered trip to Kenya and its glorious Wildlife. Lilliana and David

We stayed three nights at this attractive safari lodge, with a driver/guide arranged by African Spice Safaris. The rooms and eating area look directly onto a man-made water hole, which means many animals and birds can be seen without moving from the lodge. When we went the reservation was still suffering from the effects of a severe drought, despite some recent rain, so animals were thin on the ground. Still, we managed to see lions as well as grazing animals and birds. As for the lodge itself, the room was clean and comfortable (though the double bed was rather small), he food was tasty and staff were very friendly and helpful.
