My wife and I stayed here for a family event in San Fernando. A local relative managed to book us a “superior” room for 960 TTD pn (internet booking sites only offered the more expensive “executive” rooms at 1,146.84 TTD pn), which although small, was adequate for our needs with a fridge, microwave, good aircon, comfortable bed, kettle, cups and tea/coffee/creamer and a roll of kitchen towel. The ensuite bathroom had a good shower and soap/shampoo/hand lotion were replenished daily. There was water in the fridge but this proved not to be complimentary (although it was cheaper than in the on-site shop). Daily housekeeping was good. Everything was clean and worked well. Our only concern about the room was that there were immovable bars on the window which would have prevented escape in the event of a fire.
The breakfast available was not buffet-style – you ordered from a small menu (and the kitchen sometimes did not seem to have (or want to provide) the most basic of items). There were insufficient staff at breakfast and the service was sometime very slow. One waitress was friendly and helpful, some of the others seemed keen to avoid you and the coffee refills took so long in coming that we had generally left before the “floating pot” arrived. On one occasion we were told the coffee machine had broken down so not to wait (which at least saved us time and disappointment).
Reception staff seemed pleasant and were willing to accept USD in exchange for TTD but when it came to changing our unused TTD back we were given the runaround - firstly being told a supervisor had to be present and later being told bluntly that they did not offer a TTD buyback service, so unfortunately our parting impression of the hotel was less favourable than our initial impression on arrival.
The property does not have lifts so there are a lot of steps. It is not a disabled friendly hotel. I hope you find this review helpful.

My fiance and I booked in on 30th May and the indian lady with the red hair at the desk said we were only booked for 1 person. We showed her the printed booking from expedia and she still didn't believe us saying its not on her system. She agreed to hold the charge for the amount we nbooked but lo and behold they wanted us to pay an extra 1200TT$ on our departure on 4th June. We made a fuss and the woman at the desk said she couldnt handle our complaint and called the manager who appeared an hour later, said he was in the shower, closely followed by his female companion.
He took another half an hour to finally realise that his employees had made a mistake and booked us for a higher priced room.
In additon the first room they put us in on day 1 was flooded with water. No one apparently had checked that the floor was soaking wet and we couldn't see it at first until we rested our suitcases on the floor and it got soaked, clothing inside and all.
They did move us to another room.
In addition the housekeeper would come into the room while we were at breakfast and take all our towels and wouldn't replace then until a few hours later, leaving us to wait for clean ones before we can shower, causing us extreme inconvenience.
They are quite good at saying thier apologies but this was useless as the time it took to sort out the complaint was 1.5 hours and by this time it was 9pm and our evening date with my nephew was ruined as we had to postpone due to the incompetencies of the manager and his employees

I had some business in south Trinidad so I decided to overnight at the Tradewinds Hotel. My first impression was not so very good to say the least cause I read on their website that evening check-ins would have received a snack plate. We checked in at around 6:15pm and we got no snack plate, although while i was checking in I noticed some neatly wrapped snack plates behind on a counter.

I purposely did not shine my shoes before I got there as I also read that one of their amenities was a free shoe shine service....again, when I wanted to access this facility I was told by the lady at the front desk that the ad referred to a machine and the machine is currently out of service.

I had to book an executive room as my family was with me and there were no standard rooms available. Thank God we didn't get a standard room because the executive room was seriously dated and the furniture was very old. The actual room itself was very clean and spacious and the bedding and bath towels were very clean. The aircondition unit in the room we stayed was so very noisy that is actually sounded like a lawn mower in the room. I reported the noisy A/C to the front desk and I was told that I would have to lower the A/C because the noise was a result of the A/C "icing up". The room was then obviously very warm now. To be quite honest I thought that $1200.00 TT per night would have entitled me the opportunity to be relocated to another room, especially since little children were involved. They simply refused to relocate us.

We decided to have dinner there given that the restaurant seemed very nice. The ambiance was nice, although for a hotel that size the restaurant seemed inadequate and cramped. I could well imagine on a very busy period how cramped it would be. The food was very basic and lacked that southern charm that I was hoping for. Restaurants in south Trinidad are known for its tasty cuisine and this place was seriously lacking.

After a horrid night of the lawn mower in my ear, I was the first to be up as I had an early morning meeting. I therefore went down tot he restaurant for the free "continental" breakfast that was included in my rate. First off, the gentleman who was the bartender/server/manager there that morning was not very polite and seemed to dismiss my question about the content of a sausage that was being served for breakfast. After a few minutes of self realisation, he then decided to tell me that the sausage was a mixture of beef and pork. At one time it felt as though I was in some kind of training camp as all he kept telling everyone was to sign in your room number and sign the register. My advice to guests there would be to skip that extremely lame breakfast and seek out the nearest coffee shop or doubles vendor. There is absolutely no variety in that breakfast and no choice of items....it was either toast with eggs or cheese or cereal!! That was the "continental breakfast" lol.

I suppose if I had paid for a standard room maybe the service and amenities might have been on par with the level of service and I might not have felt it so badly, but to crown it all off, when we were checking out that day, the laundry staff tried to pin laundry services on me where we clearly didn't do any laundry!! My advice to prospective guests would be to ensure that you get your full refund of your initial deposit and carefully check your receipt. They would seriously stick you for something you didn't use!!!

Overall, the view of the southern city and the overall cleanliness of the hotel was what stood out for me. This hotel is seriously overpriced for amenities and services that are simply not there. If you are looking for a nice budget hotel, this is definitely not the place.

Booked this place for 14 days for TT$18, 735TT. When I arrived the Kitchen was closed at 7:30pm on Saturday with no dinner available although this was paid for in advance. Their excuse was I did not call to book dinner although the hotel had my itinerary with the full knowledge that the taxi could not stop anywhere for me to get a meal. To add to that their was no Night Manage to complain to and no one had the courtesy to even contact me. I did not eat anything that night. Meals are very limited and served in very small portions. a complete rip off. you are better off going to another hotel where the management needs your business

The most deplorable customer service and treatment. As I write this @ 2:12am, my husband and I are in the lobby waiting for redress. We booked and fully paid for the room with the hot tub for our anniversary and as part of my physiotherapy. We checked in and just left our bags then went to dinner. We came back to the hotel a bit after 7pm and after changing, called the staff about operating the hot tub. Not a staff member had a clue! We had 3 persons come to the room between 9 and 10:30pm and still nothing. We finally got fed up of the run around and told the front desk that we were not getting what we paid for and that we’d like to leave. Note time is going and it’s minutes to 11pm. We’ve been seeking a full refund as we’ve not gotten what we paid for. ( by now the 3 persons who checked the hot tub decided it just wasn’t working). Since then, we’ve been down in the lobby trying to get help. As expected, no one could help us as the manager is out. We are simply just waiting, not in anyone’s way. I must make mention of the poor and roudy attitude of one of the security officers who came in and started raising his voice at us simply because we were waiting. He had no knowledge of the matter at hand and decided he was the boss. At the very least, he should be sent to pursue a course on customer service. It’s now after 2am and we are still waiting. I honestly expected better from this hotel. There will never be another thought wasted on this place. Now I’m just being petty letting all know that the room has cobwebs and the bed had crawling creatures 😔. I really just wanted to appreciate what my husband had done.

What a great hotel!
This was not my first visit to Trinidad but it was the first time I was on my own so as a solo female traveller I was a bit cautious.
As it turned out I didn't need to be as this hotel made sure I felt comfortable.
I was able to contact them beforehand and book a taxi pick up from the airport at which point they gave me the name and number of the driver so I knew who I was looking for. They always use the same driver and honestly I'm not surprised as he was fantastic. I booked him to take me to the other side of the island to see friends and also back to the airport. He was very chatty and made me feel at ease.
The hotel itself was great. The pool was clean as we're all the other communal areas.
The room was bigger than I expected, very clean also and in great condition. Don't expect a balcony or patio it's not your typical holiday resort as its not by the beach but in a town but also don't let that put you off.
The staff are helpful and friendly especially the restaurant and bar staff. A lot of business people stay here from other countries and the staff make a point of talking to them and knowing what they need.
Finally let's talk food, it was brilliant. A great varied menu and all a very good standard. During the weekend there were a lot of local couples and families that came in just to eat so that should tell you a lot.
Overall a really enjoyable stay and if I have the opportunity to stay again I definitely will.

Front desk staff were unwelcoming. They wanted to charge us an extra night stay for a 3 hour early check in. No hot water. No elevators. Beds are very uncomfortable. Pool, bar, and restaurant staff are excellent. Will try another place next time.

I booked Tradewinds because it was closest to my family in San Fernando. It was $10 US less than the Hyatt, so ante up the money and go elsewhere. The pipe in bathroom does not work, we asked everyday for 3 days for two extra pillows. The internet works only in their lobby, no full length mirror, breakfast was awful, and they seem not to be bothered with any of our complains. They also think they have the right to ask $45 US for a steak with no sides and Peter Lugers they are not! The ammenites are simple non existant. The front desk clerk Riann is the rudest, impolite, hostile, and disrespectful person I have ever encountered in any hotel I have ever stayed in. In fact, several of my family members had words with her. Please save yourself the headache.

Being from Trinidad, I was horrified when my boyfriend recently stayed at this hotel. The room they gave him looked nothing like the website. He was not told that breakfast came with the room and still had to pay for something he didn't get. Service was lousy. We found dirty linens on the bed when we first arrived in the room. There were also another person's hair under the covers. We found termite droppings on the towels in the bathroom and the a/c was dripping water.

Also he was charged for double occupancy when only he stayed (barely I might add, we were out all day and most of the night) to sleep in the room. On reviewing the bill he found hidden charges and questionable accounting.

Believe me, I'm not recommending this hotel again to anyone.

I live in Trinidad and decided to stay at this establishment to facilitate travel time on a work project however i was severely disappointed. I was required to put an accident insurance deposit per day which seems silly to me, sure have a deposit but if you stay for 10 nights then 10 times the deposit??

I stayed in the "New/Business Wing" which was subpar at best, no elevator access so i had to personally drag my luggage/equipment up several flights of stairs. Service was poor from all the staff i encountered. The front desk even tried to charge a friend for trying to visit me.

In the room itself the wood flooring was disjointed in places which could be hazardous as well as on some of the steps leading to the room. Whilst showering the water cut off completely for several minutes only to be replaced by scolding hot water. Staff took an hour to respond to this situation.

Only reason for 2 stars is the inclusion of free wifi which worked well and the place was fairly well located near access to the highway in the South of the island.
