We had rooms back from the front rooms but could see the ocean. It really is beautiful and peaceful and tucked away from any busy roads. Jeff and I had some touristy issues to sort out and Neil the owner went to great lengths to ensure we saw the best of the Northland community. We would highly recommend staying here and if you have any queries about travelling in Northland then Neil's your man. He knows all the hot spots.

A deluxe unit has the best view west, with an amazing sunset, worth the extra cost. This finished off a great trip up 90 Mile Beach, this is the southern end. Also has a restaurant with stone grill - also has the great west ward view.

Stayed in the Foreshore facing rooms. Stunning balcony views and good hosts. Beds a little tough for sleeping but lots of room space. The restaurant makes a good, hot plate steak! Recommend for anyone visiting Ahipara or the Far North for the first time.

Very comfy room, reasonably well appointed. Basic cooking utensils provided plus micowave and hob plus fridge. Bed OK. Bathroom could do with a spruce up. We had evening meal in the restaurant and ate their stone grill menu which was pretty good value and nice ingredients. A short walk down to the beach. Overall a good place to stay and good value.

This place has great views over the bay. However, it is for sale and sadly, I think the person who served us, had already checked out- eg. hospitality very limited eg. the office closes at 8pm, as had dinner service when we decided we were hungry- which on a hot day we didn't think too unreasonable! So we discovered the very good local fish and chips place (see separate review). Unit was small, didn't mind no AC as there was a fan. Problem with ants so if you don't like them, don't stay. Short walk downhill to the beach. If you need supplies, get them in Kaitaia- short drive as little offered in Ahipara (at inflated prices).

Thank you for your review. We are very sad you found our service lacking. Re: Office hours. We open the office from 8am til 8pm BUT as it says in our compendium, we are on site and contactable by phone 24/7 if you require anything. Re: Restaurant hours. As a small restaurant we operate by bookings. On arrival (and as it says in our compendium) you would have been asked to book if you wished to dine. As you had not booked and we had no forward bookings for the evening, we closed earlier more than later. Ants can be a issue at this time of year. We usually manage to keep them at bay so sorry if they were a problem. We are disappointed that we did not meet your expectations.

Good meal sizes and very enjoyable. Amazing views. We were greeted by a very friendly man - had to wait a bit for our food though but no hassle really. This place was recommended to us by a friend - glad we went to try it out.

Went here for a couple of days. Pretty good location and views over the Bays. The bedroom and lounge area was a bit small for 4 adults. No air conditioning... Internet was an extra $5 charge. Pretty warm in January... humid and hot inside the room. We ate at the stonegrill at the motel... food was pleasant and meat was fresh ... chips were hand cut. Owner was trying to sell the motel. Older couple and it showed in some of the litter lying around and a menu which no longer had Shiraz... we opted for a local pinotage ( not on menu) which was a nice drop. All in all a nice place. BEWARE however the te kohanga campground... you go in and park and go for a walk ... next minute there is a quite rude person telling you it's $5 to park there .. we had been there less than 5 mins.…

Hi Folks thanks for your review. We do agree that the standard 1 bedroom units are a bit small for 4 adults but we guess you booked it knowing what it was or that was all that was available. WiFi is FREE for first 500Mbs then there is a charge. Glad you enjoyed the food in the restaurant and sorry about the lack of Shiraz. Most of our wines are boutique wines in limited supply so our selection changes often and it's not always possible to reprint the wine list for every change. It is also sad you also had a bad experience at Shipwreck Bay, something completely out of our control. We hope the rest of your break was more enjoyable. Regards Neil

It should be a nice stay with beautiful sea view and beach stretching along the coast. The room was nice, clean, and comfy beds, with proper kitchenette stuff, the location just 100m from the beach. everything was good and OK, nothing wrong. However, one of our bit worried experience when we found NO spare of toilet paper in the room at 11pm, and the toilet paper available is only a quarter of full roll, and the hotel office was already closed at 8pm, no internal phone in the room. People can make mistake, probably the room cleaner has a bad day, and it should not be a problem in the day time when the room service still available, but not at 11pm when we found this problem. The next morning when we complain this issue, in 5 minutes we got the spare toilet papers, very quick &…

Hi Guys and thank you for your review. We are glad that you were in general happy with the accommodation but deeply embarrassed about the sticky situation you were in running out of toilet paper. It is normal for there to be two spare rolls in the bathroom cupboard. There is no excuse for this being overlooked and we apologize unreservedly for this over site. As it says in our compendium if you have any problem at any time we are here to help and would have run down to you at 11pm to eleveiate the problem if informed. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. Regards Neil
