Detailed Reviews
We had a great time spending 2 weeks at the Nautilus Bay. All the staff are so helpful and kind and the place is kept spotlessly clean, Covid seemed a distant nightmare. Manolis and Maria on the bar are always cheerful and can't do enough for you, Katerina the cook waited up for us when we arrived on a very late flight and makes great cakes and pizza. The cleaning staff (sorry didn't get to know your names) kept us safe and made us laugh with the displays left in our rooms.
Isabella and Giorgos run a tight ship, and made us feel so welcome and are a fount of information about places to visit.
Great location on the clean and unspoiled sandy beach, its 10 minutes easy walk to the town and restaurants and car rental just up the road. The hotel within 20 minutes driving distance of Falasarna beach if there is a strong North wind, its much more sheltered - the north end blue and orange beach and ruins are perfect. Kissamos museum, Paleochora (great beaches), Chania and Polyrinnia are perfect for interesting visits. Thank you and we wish you all the best for next year, we hope to be back.

All in we had a good time at this hotel. I can not emphasize enough how nice the staff was, especially the reception lady! We stayed 12 nights, on 5 we had no internet in the room due to some wifi problems. The breakfast choices are not great if you are vegetarian (none if your are vegan) - but in this case there are many restaurants close by. The rooms could use some renovation, but they are generally fine (and quite large). There is a reasonably equipped kitchen in the room. At night there is some noise from the street across as there are many loud motorcycles in the area. Lastly, the pillows were a bit too large and hard, but I guess we could've asked for different ones.

The Nautilus Bay Hotel is located directly on the (sandy) beach of Kissamos. The location is particularly quiet, you mostly only hear the waves and the chirping, almost never any traffic.
It offers free loungers on the beach after a few steps, although this short section (50 meters) is not particularly well maintained - but a few meters further on, over an estimated 200 meters, it is. So lie on the hotel beach and walk a little further to swim. It also offers a well-maintained large, warm pool with loungers that can be used around the clock. Parking is not a problem, supermarkets and restaurants are nearby. Right next door is a public sports field for basketball and tennis.
The hotel is a few years old, but still looks almost new. The suite with sea view (double bed & 2 single beds/sofas) is very spacious, as is the east-facing balcony with 4 armchairs. Here you have a view of the sea and the sunrise behind the mountains - but it gets very warm outside early on (no shade available). Air conditioning and WiFi work very well. The small kitchen has a regular-sized refrigerator, 2 hotplates, a kettle - everything is there. Cutlery and crockery are provided rather sparingly. The bathroom with bathtub is sufficiently spacious, but the water pressure in the shower is rather low.
The restaurant and bar are apparently open (almost) around the clock. The breakfast is rather modest for 12 EUR. The staff are very friendly and are on hand immediately if there are any problems (such as a jammed door). Rooms are cleaned daily and towels are changed. An early check-out the evening before is also easy.

We (mum, dad, two teen daughters) shared a room with side sea view for a week. The room had a kitchenette with fridge, two sofa beds, a huge double bed in the master bedroom, and a perfectly functional bath/shower room. Plus two balconies. Plenty of space for us all. Two air conditioners (one for the living area, one for the bedroom) kept us as cool as we liked.
The staff are all wonderful. The bar staff make regular (short) journeys to the beach to make sure we're not thirsty and Izabela, who runs the show, is happy to advise or order you a taxi. Despite being full, the hotel, and Kissamos in general, never felt busy. Always loungers available by the pool or on the beach a few steps away.
A very calm, relaxing, stress free holiday. Oh, and there are cats. Which is a bonus. All very chilled and happy to say hello.

My twelth long stay (2 weeks +) in the last ten years at this friendly hotel in Kissamos.... Why I keep returning to this property ? - Great location on a sandy beach (30 mtrs) - perfect for swimming also for kids, friendly helpful staff and owners, large clean room with a great 180 degree view of the bay if you choose a Superior Studio with Sea View (Rooms 29 and 28 are the best), wonderful breakfast with a great selection of hot and cold dishes, well cooked tasty meals for lunch and dinner by the resident chef Fortiny - in addition there are a selection of good restaurants along the promenade only a few hundred meters away and also further along the beach the other way, well appointed very clean large rooms with efficient air-conditioning and a kitchenette, a comfortable bed, good wi-fi and a large balcony with table and chairs. Free sun beds and parasoles on the beach for guests...the hotel supplies beach towels to guests. Free parking. Good bus service available. Many friendly talkative fellow guests ! - one never feels lonely even when travelling alone. Always some interesting people around...from all over the world. An outdoor bar and a great good-sized pool. A mini-market and a large supermarket nearby within walking distance. A wonderful base for visiting the famous beaches and sights of western Crete. A big thank you to all the staff and owners for another very enjoyable three week stay now from late May to mid June. What more could you want ? R

We stayed here before in 2020 and loved it so returned for another 2 weeks. The staff could not be more helpful or kind and its in the perfect location if you like quiet and a genuine cretan experience. Right on the beach which is sandy and shallow, good food in the hotel and in the taverna next door. The beach is prone to get very rough seas in North winds but Falasarna small beach is a 15 minute drive away and is absolutely lovely, Thank you again to Izabella and all her staff.
It has nothing to do with this hotel review but I advise future customers not to rent a car from Kissamos car rentals up the road where we had a very bad experience, delapidated and unsafe cars and a miserable and rude proprietor called Hara who refused to apologise or refund us for the treatment we received. The local roads can be quite tricky and treacherous and so its important to rent a good car, there are plenty of other car rental options in the village with much more modern cars and better customer service

A lovely hotel in so many ways ! Great staff and owners, location by sandy beach, nice pool, very well prepared food in their restaurant including an extensive breakfast spread.....Are other restaurants nearby. Clean & comfortable large rooms with good wi-fi. Good base for exploring western Crete and the famous beaches. A tranquil place. A very international selection of guests - always someone to chat with even when travelling alone and learn something new. I have had many great stays here. Stayed two weeks this time in June 2023. A big thanks to all staff and Izabela / George !

We spent one month in this modern hotel by the beach in August 2020, and I have to say that we felt at home from the very first day. The owners Georgos and Izabela were excellent hosts, always ready to fulfill our needs. And what to say about the staff, Caterina the cook, and Manolis, Georgos and Maria the waiters. They all were excellent workers that made our stay unforgettable.
The room was fine, superior study with incredible sea sights.
Internet was ok, probably not as good as we would have liked, but I know they did their best to improve it.
The carte didn't have great variety, but the dishes they offered were really good. Caterina is an excellent chef.
The kitchennette is acceptable. Not fully equiped but I have to say that we got all the lacking items that we asked for.
It's located inside the last village on the coast road moving west, but in a quiet area, far away from the noisy areas, just by the beach, so that you can hear the waves splashing on the shore while you have a drink sitting at the balcony at night. I loved that.
Platanias is at 30 minutes drive, with a lot of restaurants if you don't have enough with all the ones in Kissamos, and the city of Chania one hour drive with an old beatiful port to visit.
Several beaches around, counted among the most beautiful beaches of Crete, as Balos, Falasarna, Elafonissi, Stavros and Seitan Limania, to number some.
We will come back to Nautilus Bay, as soon as we have a chance.

We booked this hotel due to it's location and were totally satisfied. Kissamos is about a 30-40 min drive from Chania and we found this hotel to be the perfect location between Chania and all the amazing sites of western Crete. These included Elafonisi, Balos & Gramvoussa as well as Phalasarna. When you travel in this part of Crete I highly recommend you have a car to get around and see the sites. Back to the hotel, Nautilus Bay, it's literally right on the beach, hosts George & Isabella are outstanding as are all the staff. It's very reasonably priced and has a great pool and bar area. Breakfast was plentiful with many choices. The hotel is also walking distance to many restaurants and has an amazing chief, should you wish to lunch or dine at the hotel. Should we return to Crete we will definitely be staying at Nautilus Bay Hotel.

It was a wonderful holidays with my two kids of 10 and 13 years. The situation of the hotel is perfect to enjoy the swimming pool, the nice beach and visit the west of Crete.
The room was very big and perfectly clean. The restaurant very good. The owner of the Hotel George took us for a cruise on his sailing boat, it was an amazing day. All the employees were so kind and attentive that we had a fantastic holiday. The Falasarna beach is only 15 min away by car. Many restaurants and the city center are accessible in 10min walk. We hope we will be able to come back next year!

Thanks a lot for your interest in our hotel. The distance from our hotel to Balos beach is 17km. But the last 7-8 km are bad - dirt road. So no buses or Taxis are going. Also car rental offices they will not rent you if you let them know that you will go to Balos beach. But many people go with rented cars anyway. There boats that visit Balos Lagoon and Gramvousa Island. Either private boats like ours or big ones with 500 to 1000 people. For those the tickets are sold everywhere also in our reception. Please dont hesitate to contact us for more info.
