Hotel's Favourite

For several years, Pellestova has been a favourite for hiking and nordic skiing. By 2024, the hotels has undergone a very successful refurbishment. All rooms are decorated in "mountain lodge style" (wood, slate etc.), the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms also new with floor heating and amenities from Rituals (soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner). There is a well equipped mini-bar and TV. Breakfast is plentyful; a cooked breakfast is being served upon request, and there is also a traditional nordic buffet with ham, salmon, cheese, croissants, fruit, etc. The hotel offers three restaurants covering all needs: A pizzeria serving lovely artisan pizza, a restaurant serving modern french-norwegian cuisine and the new "Slakteriet", an exclusive restaurant in the culinary landscape of new nordic cuisine. The latter is seating aprx 30 guests each night, serving ca. 12 dishes focusing on game and locally sourced produce. The hotel wine cellar is to die for, offering Échezeaux, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Gevrey-Chambertin, and also less expensive alternatives.

Pellestova is not too far from Lillehammer via bus or car. The hotel itself is very comfortable with a range of room options of different costs. My room was a simple one, but just fine for me. I came to ski mainly, but was pleasantly surprised at what a nice facility the hotel is: great food, service, and environment. The skiing is outstanding, and right out the door of the hotel. As an Alaskan I was amazed at the quality of the trails and number of trails in great terrain.

Just returned from four spotlessly enjoyable days with my son, combining cross country and downhill skiing, staying in Pellestova Hotel—with friendly yet professional staff, real art on the walls, gourmet food… and coffee after skiing in Fireplace Room with cathedral ceiling and a glass wall inviting snow-covered rolling hills and sunset to come in.

We had a logistical problem: The local buss company we were counting on to take us to the downhill skiing slopes just stopped working. Pelestova took over; and not only solved the problem but made us feel truly cared for.

Stopped in for lunch while skiing from Nordseter. It's a very nice setting. There are 2 options for lunch, one a serve yourself from a very limited buffet style. The other a more loungy setting with 3 items on the menu. The food prices were very high, especially for the former option: open faced sandwiches were 219 kr, a piece of cake was 159 kr.

This is a very nice hotel! Our room and bathroom felt spacious and was very well appointed, with everything we needed. The food was very, very good. We didn't get to try the pizza restaurant, as we weren't there on a weekend. The only thing missing was a sauna, though we did make good use of the ski waxing room. The ski trails are wonderful.

Located close to a downhill ski area, but not ski-in/ski-out. The cross country ski tracks, however, are just outside the hotel.

OK rooms, some with sauna, and a good bed. The hotel has conference facilities, a bar and a really good restaurant. The restaurant serves a breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner. The food is really good and the service OK. Lot of personnel, but still a little slow service. Fantastic view of the mountains.

Lovely large room, great shower, free coffee, free wifi, and free parking helped make our stay here most enjoyable. We were here mid summer and so went for walks or drove around to admire the spetacular scenery. I can imagine how stunning it must look in winter. The staff were lovely too. And breakfast, included in the price, was delicious! My husband was a bit sulky that we had to pay a toll to come here but that is hardly the hotel's fault! I can definitely recommend it

Our party of three had were astonished by the tastes and composition of the food at Pellestova restaurant, a place on the top of the mountains over Lillehammer - a few minutes away from the city. The pure, white scenery added to the experience, but our focus was very concentrated on the great food. Each of us wanted to taste several of the dishes; we ended up ordering 3 different precourses, 3 different main courses, 3 different desserts - and then taste each others' food. We agreed, the dishes were all amongst our top global experiences! We'll be back soon!

I have grown up with a cabin close to Pellestova and stopped by for a cup of hot chocolate or a glass of wine. This is however, the first time I spent the night. The room is simple, but it has all you need when the focus is the outdoors. The location of this place is perfect for hiking and skiing and the view for the bar/lounge is unbeatable. The hotel was also very acommodating when bringing a dog.

However, the hotel has some ways to go when it comes to food. The price for dinner is not reflected in the quality served. For what we paid, we expected to be served a meal from a high end restaurant, but it was merely OK. One dish was sent back and the other main was not memorable. The extensive wine list is impressive, but the pricing is not. The majority of the wines were priced at more than 1000 NOK, which feels out of place, specially considering the quality of the food. The dessert felt like it had been in the fridge for many hours before it was served. The breakfast was average and confirmed our impression of the kitchen.

Earlier in the evening we had a couple of glasses of wine in the lounge. The bartender had to ask me which of the wines he had was dry white wine when I ordered.

Although the staff is friendly and helpful, we could not help leave with a feeling that the hotel is not able to live up to the quality that they are trying to sell. This place is good, but could be great.

The good:
-the hotel is on the top of Hafjell, at the end of the road.
-great dinner!
-very helpful and nice staff
-the day of departure you can use a wonderful shower/bathroom if you decide to work out before heading home (if your workout is done after check out time). Very convinient!
-dog-room
-ski-room
-beautiful bar

The bad:
-Poor and crowded breakfast. Lots of people, little space. Mostly white bread. I missed the traditional oatmeal porridge and scrabled eggs. No bacon or potatos either, just fried/cooked egg.
-the rooms are ok but veery small. Very nice bed, but not much space to move around on.
-the resturant lacks the last touch, its a bit 2001- instead of rather having the same style as the bar-area.
-missed the acsess to a outdoor hot-tub or sauna.
