The Illa d’Or, founded in 1929, is a hotel which still maintains the authentic classical style from yonder. Situated in placid Puerto Pollença, where one can experience the sensation of beauty which has served as inspiration to a multitude of yesterday’s and todays’s artists and writers. At the Illa D’Or, the sky and the sea are a gentle carress, dusk is a symphony of colours and night, whilst on the terrace and contemplating the moon reflection in the sea, one realises that it is one of the most beautiful areas, not only in Mallorca, but possibly, in the world.

The hotel is in a fantastic position overlooking the bay a 15 min walk down the pine walk to the busier port area and a fabulous Restaurant as well . there is no better place to dine and watch the sunset or sip a cocktail with fabulous food . The staff are lovely just service on the drinks can be a little slow 15 mins for 2 drinks one early evening but we were in no rush and they are great personable staff . The rooms are nice neutral decoration , a little small if anything try and get one with a balcony . The air conditioning system in the rooms isn’t as good as in the gym and it never got truly cold but it was cool enough to sleep . The real selling point is the sun beds right next to the sea on the pine walk , you can just walk in so easy and pleasant in the heat and it’s a sandy beach bit not pebbly . The downside however is the lack of beds and the rush for beds I wouldn’t expect for a hotel of this quality you can’t go on the beds till 9 am which is fine however there is clearly not enough beds for the number of guests or umbrellas so it’s a bit of a free for all at 8.50 am trying to get beds .if u aren’t down early you won’t get a bed not ideal for those wanting a relaxing holiday . I can’t understand why they don’t take a third of the space from the table area on the other side of the jetty where people have drinks and lunch before the terrazzo restaurant and put more beds out to resolve the bed issue . Yes there is a pool but it isn’t big and hasn’t the setting by the sea and the big pool you see on the website is actually for the apartments across the road from the main hotel . Personally I would also invest in some reusable recyclable plastic glassware for drinks round the sun beds like you get in the upmarket beach clubs in Palma . This would make it more appealing than getting a 12 euro cocktail in a brown paper pint cup . The hotel has a fabulous old renovated fishing boat you can go on trips or hire for a private trip and it’s well worth a voyage with frank a perfect skipper who gives you a little history of the place yet also leaves you alone to enjoy the time and snorkelling from the boat .
A fabulous few days in a great hotel just a shame about the sunbed scenario.

Dear Pab24, First of all thank we would like to thank you for staying with us and for your kind words. We really appreciate your excellent review and we are glad to know that you enjoyed your stay with us. About the sunbeds situation we feel the need to share with you a few information: 1/the beaches in Spain are public; this means that no hotel in Spain has a reserved area for sunbeds and umbrellas. Of course depending on the area, city or even region, you’ll be able to get a smaller or a bigger beach close or not to the hotel but it is still not in the hotel’s hands. 2/Majorcan authorities gave to the Illa d’Or a concession to use a small public area for his guests but with some restrictions. For these reasons we are not allowed to increase sunbeds and umbrellas and we can't use the bar area because it is designated for the use of a certain number of tables and chairs…it is not under our control or power. If we change the layout, the government could give us a ticket. 3/We try to avoid the trouble of reserving the sunbeds with towels (or any other object) early in morning...for this reason we open the access at the beach at 9.00 am. Thank you again for your feedback, your suggestions are highly appreciated. Kind regards,

This was a perfect trip away for some early sunshine and we were lucky that’s what we got. Puerto Pollensa is a stunning location and the Hotel Illa D’Or is at the end of the pine walk away from the crowds with a beautiful waterfront restaurant and bar.
The transfers to and from the airport with Jet2 ran smoothly and efficiently and we had bikes with us and they were handled with care.
The hotel is great for cyclists with a secure bike store, somewhere to wash your bike with hosepipe etc if you need it; some basic tools, bike pumps and water to fill your bottles. Really great!
The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff in all departments are fabulous and can’t do enough for you.
I would definitely recommend a room with a sea view as the views are beautiful and the balcony large with one of the double loungers with sun canopy plus table and chairs.
Great shower and en-suite.
If I had one small complaint it would be that we could hear next doors TV and then talking but when they left and another couple came there was no noise so maybe they were just loud!!
The food was delicious and varied. Breakfast buffet style and cooked plus chef there to cook you what you wanted, omelet etc
Evening meal was served to you and there was a good choice every night and we had something different each night.
Very well presented and tasty. Only one point for us was that the service was almost too good and we had to ask sometimes to wait a little longer between courses but that is a personal preference. Nothing was too much trouble.
We used the Spa, sauna, indoor pool and massage on the last day and these too were very good.
Would definitely recommend the area and hotel.

We have just returned from a wonderful week in Port de Pollenca at the hotel Illa d'Or.
The staff are without exception extremely professional and nothing is too much trouble. This makes such a difference and you feel so welcome.
We had a side view room with balcony on the fourth (top) floor, which gives you a partial sea/mountain view, but only if you are on a higher floor. The room was immaculate; petite, but very comfortable, and had everything I needed, like a proper hairdryer that plugs in, good mirror and lighting options and a lovely comfy bed. There were slippers, bathrobes and essential toiletries which all helps with light packing!
With half board we particularly enjoyed our breakfast on the terrace. There was so much lovely food to choose from, and sitting next to the bay with a panoramic view was just blissful. Dinner was less enjoyable, as the dining room decor is a bit bland, and although the starters were quite nice, the main course options (two fish, two meat) were heavy on sauce and on occasion even slightly school dinnerish. There was a salad bar, which was a good touch as you are invited to help yourself, and desserts were pretty good. You can always opt to eat outside on the terrace and upgrade to an a la carte menu. If you choose b&b it would be easy to stroll up to plenty of cafes, restaurants and a couple of nice hotels along the pine walk for dinner.
Take flat comfortable sandals/trainers if you fancy the walk - the hotel is situated at the far end of town, and it's a pleasure to make the walk along the wide paved path next to the bay without a road to bother about, but the path is crazy paved and a little uneven. It is a 15-20 minute slow walk to the middle of the action. There are some clothes shops and souvenir/beach shops and a small harbour. It is not ideal for young people who might want a night life! but good for established couples and families with small children. There is a supermarket behind the hotel along the road about five minutes walk away, useful for water, snacks etc.
The hotel has lovely cushioned sun beds - the best spot is next to the bay where you get a bit of sea breeze, and can go for a swim from the tiniest beach ever! or from the jetty. The water is clear and so calm, the only waves come from distant passing small boats. It doesn't slope much so you can swim easily and stay in your depth. We used the hotel pool once which is small, sheltered from the breeze and so probably good in cooler weather. A larger pool is available just over the road at the back where the apartments are, and it looks very nice. Beach towels are provided and you can renew whenever you need. The spa is gorgeous, with pool, steam and sauna, and comfy loungers.
Cap de Formentor is a short drive away, and although there is nothing much there, the viewing point on the way there is spectacular and worth a visit.

I would like to of given you a proper review of this hotel but unfortunately we booked a room here but was not allowed to use it, I’ll explain.
We are staying about an hour away from this hotel & decided to have one night here. We got to the hotel & asked at reception & btw, the look I was given before I asked about a room wasn’t good. They said they had rooms, so I booked while sitting there with hotels.com as much cheaper than hotel quoted, around £200 for the night, the hotel quoted about 260€. I told him I’d booked, he said it takes about 20 mins to come through so we said we would get a drink from there cafe on the front outside by the water.

Now this I can review, the WiFi was non existent out there, the service was terrible, although there was a lot of staff, they was busy doing nothing and I plus people sitting by me had to try & get their attention on several occasions. I feel the atmosphere was very snotty, not our cup of tea at all. Anyway back to the room, when I went back he asked for our passports, I said I’m sorry we don’t have them & explained we was staying around an hour away ect. I realise this was our mistake but my issue is that he had no solution to our problem. I said I have my driving license & credit card & could send photos of our passports the next day, this was not good enough, I even said I have the Spanish QR code with our passport numbers on but again no good. I booked a non cancellation room, again my fault, I did contact hotels.com & cancelled the room anyway & they said they will see what they can do but probably nothing.
I found the reception staff, rude, augmentative & not willing to help at all!

We could of driving back & got our passports, would have taken about 2 hours there & back to the hotel but I was so upset, I just wouldn’t want to stay there anyway!

My second time staying at the Illa d’Or and if anything, it somehow managed to exceed my already high expectations. The location of the hotel along the beautiful pine walk is ideal for those who want to relax in the peace and quiet of the landscape. No over development or ugly high rise buildings here, just the sea gently lapping the shoreline with the backdrop of the mountains.

The hotel itself is sheer luxury. Our room was one of the smaller ones, but it had everything we needed in it, with a rooftop view of the bay and marina. The breakfast caters for every conceivable taste and enjoying it al fresco on the terrace surrounded by the sound of gentle waves was such a treat. Lunch too is very good and the service excellent.

All of the staff are so friendly and helpful. They quickly get to know your face and you truly feel like a welcomed guest. Nothing was too much trouble for them. My transport to the airport was delayed and there was a possibility that I could have missed my flight home. Joan was so helpful, phoning the company on my behalf and talking to them, ensuring that what ever happened I would make my flight (and I did!).

What more can I say, except I will be back soon and I’m already looking forward to it.

I stayed here for a week and overall had a lovely time and think it is a wonderful hotel, but for several reasons I can’t give it five stars.

The hotel’s location is perfect, with incredible views of the sea and a very easy amble down Pine Walk into town for shopping, more beach space and restaurants, bars etc. The hotel rooms are comfortable and the hotel is stylishly decorated inside and out. Breakfast is good and having eaten dinner at both the hotel’s restaurants during our stay here, I can safely say that the food is delicious. Lots of the staff across the hotel, from concierge to bookings for the restaurants to cleaners and waiting staff and others, are really lovely and helpful, but I’d like to give a special mention to Monica the assistant manager who was very helpful and kind to us when we had to make a complaint about the bar. The restaurant staff are friendly and make the dining experience there very pleasant.

The things that let the hotel down and have meant that this was not a five star stay for me were:

1. The service in the seaside bar area was very, very slow (the one next to the lovely seaside restaurant). On several occasions I went in there and waited half an hour to be served or to even get a menu. I also felt that the majority of the waiting staff looked really miserable there and at points were a little rude, which was a shame as so many other members of staff around the hotel were lovely.

2. The sun lounger situation by the sea was quite unfair at points. We were told by the concierge as soon as we checked in that you could not abandon a sunbed for more than 30 minutes in the pool or seaside areas, as after this time the towel attendant would come and move your belonging/towel. For most of our holiday we stuck to this rule, but unfortunately most other guests felt they were above it. On one occasion my mum and I had one lounger between us in the seaside area and had to take it in turns sitting on the floor, while the majority of the other sun loungers were abandoned with towels on for most of the afternoon. No one was policing the situation and it seems people abandon beds for hours, while others can’t get any at all. Really difficult.

That all being said, I would still really recommend the Illa D’Or to anyone overall and we will definitely be returning in the couple of years. However, I would strongly advise any future guests here to avoid the seaside bar unless they don’t mind waiting a very long time for food or drink (though perhaps the service is better outside of the high season) and also to be wary of the sun lounger situation (again, this might be better outside of the high season).

Dear Claudia W, First of all we would like to thank you for being our guest and for your kind words. We are glad to read that overall you enjoyed your holiday with us. We also want to thank you to bring to our attention what happened in the bar; we will act swiftly to take the necessary measures. About the sun loungers area, we have rules and 2 pool attendants, and we are trying to manage the situation the best we can but sometimes it is not easy to make everyone happy…we trust in common sense and in the correct use of rules. Also we have sun beds available for our guests between the two pools and the beach area but everybody like better the beach area. Thank you for recommending us and we look forward to seeing you soon. Spent 4 nights here as a couple and really enjoyed it . All staff are very efficient and friendly. We booked a seaview room with balcony and it didn't dissapoint . It wasn't very big but well appointed and stylish with a very large balcony that had a double day bed which was a bonus. The restaurant served excellent breakfasts and the a la carte waiter service at night had a real high quality feel to it as you could choose from a menu , even a vegetarian menu which suited my wife .The location was perfect as it was a pleasant stroll along the pine walk to the centre of the port. Prices were slightly above the average for the resort but certainly not expensive and the quality of food and drink made them very reasonable indeed. Hopefully it won't be the last time we stay here.

This was out first break since COVID, the location of the Illa Dor is wonderful, set at the end of the Pine Walk with amazing views of the ocean.

The hotel is immaculate we could not ask for a more tranquil setting to relax and take in the breathtaking scenery.

The hotel has retained it’s historical charm the rooms are very comfortable, restaurant is very romantic overlooking the ocean the attention to detail along with helpful charming staff was without question 5 star.

We cannot wait for next season when we will definitely return.

I spent 6 nights as a solo traveler on a cycling trip to Port De Pollenca. The room rate included breakfast but as I was travelling solo I opted for the half board rate which included a 3-course meal with optional salad buffet. The food was AMAZING. The breakfast buffet had everything one would want, from breads and pastries, to fruit and cereals. Cooked options were also available. For dinner, there was a new menu every evening with a wide choice of carefully crafted starters, main courses and desserts. Some of the best fish I have ever tasted. It was evident that so much thought and care is put into the food that is provided. There was also an extensive wine list. I had lunch a couple of the days as well, sitting in the outside terrace in the warm sunshine (each table has a canopy) and cooled by the sea breezes. Table service is prompt and attentive, yet unobtrusive. The hotel itself is beautiful. It is situated at the end of the bay and for that reason it does not get all of the pedestrians that would be in town. It is only a short ten minute walk into the centre of the town. The views from the hotel over the bay are as good as it gets. It was great to sit during breakfast and dinner looking over the bay. The hotel is exceptionally clean my room and bathroom was made up every day. I also had my own private sun terrace. I did not make use of the outdoor pool (even though the weather was warm enough) but I did avail of the indoor pool and wellness spa, the latter consisting of a steam room and sauna. I also used the massage facilities which I found to be excellent value. The hotel provided a secure lockup for bikes, which included maintenance facilities. My last words are for the staff. From the moment I arrived, until the day I checked out, I felt very welcome, especially as a solo traveler. Because I was leaving early some mornings, the reception staff arranged an early breakfast for me. Everyone was polite and friendly. My only request to hotel management is to allow (and encourage) their staff to address guests as to their preference (I prefer to be spoken to by my first name but currently all guests have to be referred to as Sir or Madam). Special mention to Juan and Cristina, two delightful and attentive members of staff with whom I had great rapport. I hope to return...

Perfectly positioned towards the end of the Pine Walk, a 10 minute stroll into the centre. Attentive, polite, smiling staff all round who always try to please. The room on the 3rd floor overlooking the Pine Walk was lovely with air con perfect. Food was very good especially in the evening at La Terrassa. It is advisable to book a day or so before you want to eat at La Terrassa as it is open to bookings from non residents.
The policy of not allowing large floats, lilos etc into the main pool is welcome, despite some residents wanting to take over the entire pool with them. The pool team politely maintain order and inform that there is a pool more conducive to these devices at the apartments behind the hotel. Moreover, the policy of not allowing towels to be placed on Sun beds before 9 am creates a much nice atmosphere all round.
The boat trip around the bay is excellent and the captain, Frank, is great fun and very knowledgeable. We will definitely look to return.

There are no USB points but plenty of sockets for chargers. The bathroom has soap and hair and shower gel which are filled each day. There are towels and dressing gowns which people wear around the hotel and down to the pool and sea. All the items you would expect from a first rate hotel

The hotel now has open seating for the evening meal so there are no set times. There is a set menu, but it is very extensive and changes very frequently - so you will never be bored.....or hungry! We have stayed half board and really enjoyed it, but also do choose to stay B&B - if you are up for the stroll into town there are some wonderful places to eat at as well and enjoy the atmosphere of PP in the evenings too.

We went in October and shorts ok for breakfast but trousers were requested for dinner indoors I'm not sure about the public outside restaurant area. (It made it nicer to dress up)
