Couldn't believe our eyes when we saw the Pilot Boat Inn - a glorious 30s yacht stranded 100 metres from the Bembridge shore. The atmospheric inn has been there for centuries, but its incarnation as a sea-going vessel was the idea of an apprentice joiner who transformed the inn as a project back in 1937. The outside of the inn... More

Have been here before to drink and enjoy live music. Popped in for a drink on way to pre booked table elsewhere for lunch. The bar staff were friendly but our table was really "sticky",maybe not cleaned from the night before? Looked at the menu to see if we would change our plans and eat there. Fancied the mixed grill...but... More

Thank you for your review, apologies about sticky table, an oversight on our part. Our mixed grill is for two people, so £17 each and includes sirloin steak, gammon steak, chicken breast, lamb chop, sausages, chips, etc etc and is all local delicious meat, I wonder if you appreciated it was for two people? Stayed here overnight over the weekend after a day of walking on the beach with the dog and enjoying village life with the family. So glad we did! Our rooms were clean, tidy and nicely prepared. George, the delightful owner, made us feel extremely welcome. The full English breakfast was fabulous and the whole atmosphere is one of friendly service... More

This is an unusual looking place with a couple of decently kept real ales and a good selection of food. Frontage looks like a boat and inside the main windows are portholes, slightly uncomfortable colour scheme inside and lacked a bit of atmosphere when we were in there at a quiet time of day but I'm sure with a few... The wife and I stopped off at this welcoming establishment while out walking the dogs on a warm sunny day to have a refreshing old beer. The young staff were very friendly and talkative, and they also provided water for our two dogs to have a drink, very thoughtful of them. We would definitely stop here again should we visit... More

My wife and I were walking the coastal path between Sandown and Ryde when came across the quirky looking pub. The desire for a pleasant glass of white wine became a necessity at such a lovely place. The bar staff were friendly and very helpful even if it was only for a glass of wine but it made us feel... More

We wanted to have lunch at The Best Dressed Crab but they were full, so came across the Pilot Boat Inn by accident. Really quirky place with lovely staff, who, although they were young, were friendly and efficient. We only wanted a very light bite to eat and so both of us had a 'starter' consisting of crab, smoked salmon,... More

I booked the Pilot Boat Inn for a weekend break for 6 adults and 4 Golden Retrievers. From the welcome when we all arrived, to the checkout when we left, I cannot fault George and his team. All of the staff were friendly, nothing was too much trouble, and the food in the dog friendly restaurant was delicious. We ate... More

Friendly young lady welcomed us and helped us put our bikes in the lockable bike storage boxes. It was reassuring that the bikes were secure. Lovely pub with lots of artefacts and interesting paintings. We stayed in "Midships" room which was fine. It was very clean and must have been recently refurbished. Tea and coffee making facilities with nice biscuits.... More

Stopped here for lunch on the way to Sandown from the Ferry, looks very quirky from the outside, lots of tables to choose from which was surprising for a Sunday lunch time, the menu is varied traditional pub fayre and a Sunday roast was available (only one meat choice) we opted for the small appetite section and the portions were... Thank you for reviewing, we like the fact you think we are different, we are a freehouse so do our own thing, and one of the reasons we are so packed is because we are different from mainstream pubs!! The pictures get changed regularly and some are worth a lot of money, some are cheap and tacky but key is... More
