The Birdham has recently been taken over by a fabulous crew who are friendly and welcoming. Since taking over the premises, which had been closed for over a year, they have upgraded, updated and uplifted the entire building. Despite only being open for a few months, the Birdham just received a 5 star food hygiene award. A well deserved award too. The staff have worked so hard to make the Birdham a place you want to be. - The food is delicious, the Sunday Carvery is such a treat and their regular menu offers many delights. Drop by for a drink, meet friends, relax and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. Dogs are very welcome too.

Stayed here for a four day break and were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly, the cleaning staff were amazing the room felt first day arrival everyday. The choice of breakfasts were first class (The scrambled eggs with smoked salmon were the best) The food at night was certainly on par (Risotto was seasoned well and tasted amazing I wanted a second !). Attended to our choice of sharing a cheese board for dessert and throughout our sty nothing was too much

The location was great too, very quiet and very relaxing.

No way a criticism but after a long day out walking those second set of stairs are killers. Hahaha.

Thank you for a wonderful time we would not hesitate in coming back

Stayed for 2 nights, management and staff very friendly but rooms and hotel very dated and In desperate need for refurb as carpets were thread bare on stairs, water pressure in showers VERY poor! Windows are old and draughty and the heating In The room wasn’t on. Enjoyed the cold breakfast as kitchen not cooking while we stayed, could have as much or little as you pleased. No staff on site majority of time if you have any sort of issues but there is an emergency number available for the manager who lives 20 minutes drive away. Enjoyed my stay but probably wouldn’t return.

We stayed here at Easter for a week. We don't normally stay in pub/b&b's and never realised it was until we arrived. We stayed in a double superior room and we were very happy with it. We had read reviews about cracks in walls etc but it is an old building and it did not affect the enjoyment of the room. There was plenty of space and the bed was very comfortable, probably one of the best nights sleep I have had in a b&b. The bathroom was well layed out with a light above the mirror.
Breakfast was excellent although the cooked breakfast was a bit slow to come out. The food in the restaurant was very good and we ate in there most nights. The staff were very friendly and although we had a small problem with some plumbing noise they did what they could to fix it.
The only downside was the toiletries. They advertise complementary toiletries but the day we arrived we had one small sachet of shower gell and this was not replaced until the day before we were going home. They should not advertise this if they are not going to supply them. Two sachets between 2 of us for 7 days, hardly complimentary. Luckily enough I always take some in case. This aside I would highly recommend this place.

There were lots of things wrong with the room but the main one was that there was only a yale lock and half of it was hanging off the doorframe and could easily be removed with a gentle push from the outside. I had to barricade myself in for the night and barely slept. There were no staff so no breakfast could be provided - £10 discount given for this. The room was £125 for the night - no tea bags in the tray, no valence on the bed, no plugs next to the bed, very dated etc etc. As there were no staff I couldn't even complain when leaving.

Lovely week away in this hotel where we found the staff to be very friendly and professional. The food was really superb and so much better than you would expect for the very reasonable prices. Our room was spotless ,comfy and well equipped although a mini fridge would have been useful. We had a family room which was made up daily to a good standard. Places like this rely on good staff and we found that Zoe the manager, Brian the bar manager, the newly appointed Restaurant manager and Barnaby were all excellent. It is also worth noting that the prices of accommodation, food and drink are all highly competitive verging on inexpensive. Breakfast was excellent with great choice. We hope to be back soon.

We booked this hotel based upon the photographs on the web. They are part of a 4 hotel group, and they have 4 stars. When we saw the outside of the hotel we were instantly on our guard, the paint was peeling and it looked a bit tired. The greeting we got was good and the initial room we were given was a twin (we booked this) at the top of several staircases. Whilst it was nicely appointed and clean it was incredibly hot - I never sleep with the window open but did that night. Whilst everything looked lovely the shower was like a watering can with half its spouts blocked (sorry wasn't sure how to describe it) when we mentioned it to the gent in charge he very kindly moved us to another room. This was a larger room with a king bed and a lovely bathroom. The room was definitely cooler and very comfortable. The shower was better but still not a lot of force, i can only assume they have water pressure issues. We weren't able to have breakfast as the hotel couldn't get enough staff to open the kitchen and we appreciated the fact they provided a refund to us for the breakfast charge. I would be more generous with my overall rating had the outside looked better. I think the customer service made up for any faults we found just wish we had seen them at their best.

We booked this establishment because it said it had a large double bed. On entering the room, the bed was big and took up the whole room. Bed was uncomfortable (just a spring mattress) and you kept rolling towards the edge (not sure if because of the very uneven floor?) there was nowhere to put your things, a dressing table type unit with stool had the tea making items on it. The bathroom was big but nowhere to store your things no unit nothing. The towel rail was slightly loose so we didn’t want to hang a wet towel after use on it in case it came away from the wall. Behind the toilet it was dirty, overflow cover missing on the bath, and the light above the bath needed a new bulb.
The whole lighting wasn’t very bright but it was ok for the time we were there. The room is extremely hot even with the bathroom windows and room window open (they only open a fraction) even with the fan on. The building is old so very creaky, so we heard every footstep from the room above, and the bathroom tap when used it sounded like it was in our room! We were offered another room but my husband was asleep and I didn’t want to disturb him, so we stayed in the room and as we were only there 2 nights. The cooked breakfast was nice and cooked fresh to order so we expected it to come from the kitchen hot, but it wasn’t. We had dinner one night and had the skewers, these were very nice.
Overall staff are very nice, and location is good just a little attention to some tired areas of the room and bathroom including the window frame is needed plus a more comfortable mattress would really be good.

The Birdham at Bembridge continues to improve after several changes of name and management. We have stayed there for a 4 day break in Spring or Summer with our son, daughter and twin grandchildren 10 times since 2012. Each stay was enjoyable and the evening meal and serving staff have been consistently excellent. The bar has a friendly atmosphere. We had very good weather and a pleasant stay.
The front of hotel guest rooms have original single glazed wooden sash windows which are difficult to adjust and suffer from traffic noise if open at night. I'm told planning regs. require new windows to be bespoke wooden copies and upgrade to modern standards is thus very costly. Other windows have been replaced. In very hot weather the hotel overheats and the guest rooms can be uncomfortable. Fans are provided! Otherwise the is accommodation acceptably clean and comfortable.
Our recent visit, April 2024 was slightly marred by a bizarre change of policy. The morning breakfast coffee for guests turned out to be containers of instant coffee which tasted awful. Previously there were 2 or more filter coffee machine on the side where guest could help themselves and these were replenished when necessary. We were told if we want "speciality Coffees" these could be obtained from the bar coffee machine but would be chargeable and for every refill! Since when has plain black real coffee been a speciality coffee! This mean, penny pinching attituded is way beyond acceptable. My Daughter who lives in France said this could never happen there, only real coffee sold. She made a significant protest but the manager refused to agree.
So, if don't mind rubbish coffee with breakfast, the Birdham is still a good hotel to spend a few days.

I have stayed at the Birdham several times. Under the current owners it has regained its lost status as a good place to stay with a comfortable room, friendly and efficient bar and restaurant staff and very enjoyable food.
The location is good being a 5 minute walk to the centre of the village and perhaps 10 minute walk to Lane end beach and the lifeboat station.
We will be returning
