My husband and I, plus our 3 fur babies, spent a lovely long weekend in Gardeners Cottage. The weather wasn’t much to write home about but the cottage certainly made up for it. Arrived to fresh eggs, milk and home made short bread! Really cosy and homely cottage, within easy reach of Bideford, Westward Ho! and Instow. The rear entrance was great for drying the dogs off following long wet/sandy walks. We would certainly stay again.

I almost couldn’t bring myself to write a review as I don’t want the secret to get out; Orchard Farm Cottages is a great bolt hole to explore North Devon!

I booked Gardeners Cottage for myself and daughters as a last minute getaway to visit my parents who recently relocated to the area and boy was I not disappointed. I was worried as I didn’t have the time to research everything to death but I needn’t have worried, the cottage was easy to find, clean and had every amenity I am used to, a real home from home.

What’s more the owners were fantastic at getting my girls involved in some of the daily activities at the farm, which they loved! My eldest daughter tells everyone she can that calves have 4 stomachs - Thank you Les! Max also charmed us and came and greeted us whenever we arrived back at the farm.

Once restrictions ease I am going to have a really battle on my hands as my girls will want to return to Orchard Farm rather than stay with their nearby grandparents.

We’ll be back!

Handy Tips:

Follow the owners directions to the cottage not Google, it try’s to take you around the houses.

The bedroom in the cottage is huge, plenty big enough for a cot or double air bed should you need it.

There’s a drying rack in the cottage in case you need to do any washing (I did!).

There’s a shared rear porch entrance which was great for storing muddy wellies and wet coats. Would be great for drying muddy paws too!

Orchard Cottage was spacious, clean and fresh with all of the necessities like log burner, hot showers, good bed and a well equipped kitchen. The double doors in the lounge provided a panoramic view over rolling fields and hills. Despite being on a farm, the cottage was tucked around the corner away from other people, farm noises and smells. We liked the location because there were many different places to visit without a long car drive. Finally a thanks to the farm cats and dogs that were well behaved, entertaining and friendly. The cottage is on our "come back to" list.

My partner and I spent a week in Orchard Cottage and had a wonderful time, the weather was fabulous too! Les and Sue are lovely hosts, so friendly and helpful. The cottage is really comfortable, has everything you could need and the location is perfect, so quiet and peaceful. Some friends joined us who own a dog called Tig and she had a wonderful time with plenty of space by the cottage to investigate. Les and Sue provided fresh milk from their cows, yummy shortbread and a beautiful vase of flowers from their garden.

Located on the farm with wide ranging views over the country side.
Tarka trail is nearby (3 miles to puffing billy car park)
Westward ho! Is a good local beach

Farm loves dogs and you are greeted by Max the collie who wanders around with out a care in the world says hello then wanders off back to his spot in the farm yard where he can check the visitors in and out

We stayed for a wonderful week in Gardeners cottage and can't wait to come back. Greeted with fresh farm milk and homemade cookies and really beautiful, comfortable accommodation.
The wood burner was brilliant (logs provided) and kept us warm and cosy in the cold February evenings and the cottage with central heating was again very comfortable and furnished with everything you could need for a relaxing holiday.
Orchard Farm is a perfect, peaceful place to explore North Devon/Cornwall or relax in beautiful peaceful surroundings. Great pub with good food in nearby Monkleigh and the Farm owners Les and Sue are wonderful hosts and there if you need anything. We will miss Max the dog and the farm cats who are very friendly and want lots of cuddles.
Thank you for such a lovely break. Its very much appreciated.

Absolutely loved the solitude and private facility this location offered us. The owners very welcoming. The holiday was picture perfect & the accommodation first class. Will probably have to try the cottage at Instow next time around. Thanking you once again for making our stay so relaxing.

We have just spent a wonderful week in smugglers cottage Instow. Sue and Les Martin have decorated and presented the cottage to an excellent standard whilst maintaining the charm of the original building. We couldn't fault anything. Excellent facilities, comfortable beds, lovely shower, great view from the lounge. Perfectly located in a the beautiful estuary village of Instow, just a few metres from the beach and dunes. A minutes walk is the Wayfarers pub, great for food. Yards further to a seafood restaurant and a yard or so further the I stow arms, dog friendly, great food and drink. A lovely place to eat and have a drink watching the sun set over the river towards Appledore. A great cottage, excellent location, lovely village, perfectly placed for exploring North Devon. Instow beach is one of every few dog friendly beaches in Devon. We would recommend Smugglers Cottage unreservedly for anyone, and more so for anyone taking their dog away! Parking is tricky in July and August but not impossible, just takes a little organising with a car park not far from the cottage offering all day parking for a small cost. We will definitely return and given the warm welcome from Sue and Les consider staying in one of the farm cottages as well.

My wife and I recently stayed three nights at Orchard Farm. The cottage where we stayed was very modern, clean, and comfortable, with a lovely view of the countryside. Les and Sue Martin were great hosts and shared extensive information on the surrounding area. This was such a relaxing expereience from observing the cows to driving and walking in the beautiful countryside. The next time we visit it will hopefully be for a longer stay.

We have returned today from our weeks holiday at Orchard Farm. We have stayed here 5 times in the last 14 months which just shows what a fantastic time we have had.. All three cottages are beautifully decorated, all have log burners and every homely necessity you may require. We have stayed in the large stable twice and orchard cottage 3 times. You will not find a warmer welcome anywhere, nothing is too much trouble for your hosts, Les, Sue and Mike. The farm is centrally located for all attractions especially many spectacular beaches. There are plenty of local eating house and shops are in close proximity. Our dogs are always made to feel very welcome and are allowed ro roam around the farm yard. We had four lovely days of sunshine during our stay and spent sometime on the patio looking out at the breathtaking views. The local Bell Inn, a mile away is a great pub with some lovely home cooked food, children and dogs welcome. An event for us on each visit to Orchard Farm has been the arrival of new calves, absolutely amazing. There is absolutely nothing negative to say about this great farm, we have already booked our next visit in June. Try a holiday at Orchard Farm, you wont be disappointed.
