Good Food Guide Readers' Restaurant of the Year Award 2016. 2 AA Rosettes. The Miller of Mansfield is the modern inn loyal to its 18th century coaching inn roots with a 21st century twist. Set in idyllic Goring on Thames, overlooking beautiful South Oxfordshire and West Berkshire countryside. Mary and Nick have dreamed of owning their own place and have long been searching for the right establishment. Whilst the food reflects Nick's love for simple but elegant food prepared with care and giving ultimate respect to the raw product (3rd Best Thames Local Restaurant Award), Mary takes time to consider the wine list & real ales that she is passionate about (CAMRA Pub of the Season 2015). Our 13 individually designed rooms and family/luxury suites offer flat screen digital televisions, marble bathrooms, organic luxury latex and pocket sprung mattresses, Ren toiletries, slippers and robes (on request). The local area is full of activities for all. From magnificent stately homes and National Trust, to Royal Berkshire shooting school (RBSS), shopping in Oxford, Henley on Thames or Reading (not forgetting to mention the Henley regatta & festival) and racing at Ascot & Newbury) there is something for everyone to enjoy. Boat hire on the river Thames can be arranged. Also within a short walk from the Ridgeway, Goring & Streatley Golf Club, Chiltern Aerodrome and close to great cycle paths, The Miller of Mansfield is perfectly located to accommodate all occasions. Whether for a weekend retreat, a summer picnic, a short break, a private function or a quiet gathering, the experienced & professional staff will do their utmost to ensure you have the most amazing experience and Mary & Nick very much look forward to welcoming you.

We love visiting Goring and usually include dropping in to The Miller for a drink and something to eat. The pub is situated in a great setting and is inviting and cosy. There are references to the late George Michael who lived locally and this was his local. I’m not sure what he would of made of our experience today though. We ordered a Sunday roast, I immediately noticed the food wasn’t very warm, but the last straw was the (advertised) half a roast chicken which turned out to be, literally, half a dehydrated sparrow. A member of staff said ‘they would see what they could do’ but rather put off we paid for our drinks and left. Mistakes can happen, but we consider this inexcusable.

Super friendly team and very well welcomed for our first stay at this pub/hotel. Lovely warm atmosphere, and super artwork displayed throughout the ground floor. Secure entry into the overnight stay upstairs. Some noise from the bar, but super quiet after closing time. Breakfast was amazing! Central to the town and walkable to the train station into London.

Lovely location and we love the bar and surroundings but the food is really poor. One vegan starter and main-a cheap bean burger Iceland style like the worst days of the 80s. So easy now to do great food, home cooks on social media blow spots off this. Burnt lemon on the side of fish, thick pastry on a pie-I genuinely can’t believe businesses in 2023 think they can charge for food you’d find at a happy chef. Go to a basic cafe for food and just have a drink here.

This is a wonderful olde-worlde boozer/ traditional country pub with a nicely relaxed ambience. Went for a barmeal & a few drinks October '23 and had fantastic food with excellent service - could not ask for more. I can't remember what it cost so that being the case I'd say it must have been good value for money!

We have stayed at this hotel before, quite a while ago, and enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately the extreme heat made sleeping difficult in the attic room we were given. There was a rather noisy fan in the room, didn't help. Access to this room was via a very steep, narrow and uneven stair. The bath acted as a shower stall and was tricky to climb into (no bathmat, slippery), so we ended up putting some water in the bath, not using the shower, taking in turns to help each other in and out. The staff were very good I recognise this is a very old building, and due to the heat our stay was sadly not as we had hoped

We had seen this venue a few years earlier whilst walking the Ridge way and always wanted to come back and stay. So this time whilst walking the Thames path we booked in for one night on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. The person who checked us in was very helpful and friendly and the room was very spacious, smart and well decorated with a four poster bed. The en-suite was a little tricky as it was situated under some stairs so you had to watch the head room. In addition our bags which had been delivered earlier had already been taken to the room for us. Breakfast was a little a sparse regarding portion size but as we have small appetites this was not a problem for us. We had already paid for our evening meal (up to a value of £25 each) so I ordered the 8 ounce rib eye steak which to be honest was terrible in that at least 4 ounce of it was fat and inedible. My wife had the sea bass which was really tasty and good quality. We did complain about the quality of the steak and whilst they were apologetic no recompense was offered. The staff were all really friendly and helpful.

Where do I begin? Our arrival and check-in experience at the hotel was simply superb. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially the lovely young girl who greeted us. Since we arrived early, we were informed that our room wasn't ready yet. However, they kindly offered to store our belongings and assured us that they would place them in our room once it was cleaned. After going about our day, we returned to the hotel very late, and to our delight, we found all of our clothes neatly arranged in our room. We had a restful night's sleep on a superb bed, and the room itself was impeccably clean. It's often challenging to find such exceptional staff in a small village, but these individuals have truly mastered the art of hospitality. Breakfast the next morning was an absolute delight. It was a 5-star experience with prompt and hot dishes. The eggs were cooked to perfection, and the staff was attentive and ensured we had everything we needed. I can't help but feel compelled to express my admiration for the exceptional service we received; it truly exceeded our expectations. Since there weren't many taxis available in the village, the manager went above and beyond by personally driving us to collect our car. Such acts of kindness and hospitality are usually associated with Ireland, and it was a pleasant surprise to encounter them here. In summary, our stay at the hotel was absolutely amazing. While we have previously stayed at the impressive Coppa Club nearby, I must admit that it doesn't hold a candle to the Mansfield. The overall experience was beyond compare. As we left I managed to get the names of the managers - Dawn & Steve. Keep doing what you are doing. Utterly superb.

Low score based on very disappointing meal. My expectations were higher due to paying nearly £20 for a pie which was from the specials board. The steak and ale pie came out within around 5 minutes and looked like something that has just come out of a foil tin and heated. No sign of pieces of steak, it was more like a mince kind of dog food consistency . Chips good though, but measley portion of peas. My friends were equally disappointed with their meals particularly the veggie roast Lovely pub inside though and the garden was very nice with adequate seating and sunshine . Service staff very friendly . The food is not worth the price! Plus I thought it totally wrong that they included a 10% service charge on my payment despite me ordering it at the bar (as we sat in the garden ) and they didn’t even tell me or ask me if I wanted to pay it!
