My wife and I have just spent a wonderful 2 weeks at this hotel. We have stayed here twice before and love El Cotillo and the beautiful lagoons. We have also stayed in villas in Lajares and last time noticed that this hotel was having a big refurbishment and this review is bases on what we think.
The rating we gave does not lie however I will deal with a couple of negatives and then move on to the many positives.
Firstly Tui and to a degree the hotel need to make people aware that there is a lot of building work going on at the front of the hotel, now in the past we have had rooms that overlooked the pool however this time we wanted a bay view which has a view of the sea and gets the late afternoon sun and sunset, had we known about the building work, we would have chosen a pool view.
The second problem we had and again this is not the hotels fault, was we were unlucky to have a balcony next to a chain smoking man who despite polite requests to stop as its not permitted continued to do so! after putting up with it for 3 nights my wife complained to reception and in fairness they rang his room and he denied it, again not much more the hotel can do about that. My only tip, would be to put more signs in the room saying smoking is not permitted.
Now!! The best of this hotel: The whole place has had a good spruce up with paint and decor. The room was very comfortable, great air con and fantastic bathroom. The room was cleaned every day to a very high standard.
We were half board and on the previous 2 visits the food was good and also good choice however now in my opinion for the price I think its excellent, good choice and food cooked to order. The dining area is also very nice and a lot more posh than before. We loved having breakfast and dinner outside and although we did not sunbathe by the pool, it has also had a big up-grade in comfort areas and sun beds.
In the past the entertainment has taken a lot of criticism however now we both found the live acts very good quality and music that was very relaxing while eating evening meal.
Another good thing is that on your last day if you have a later flight, you check out at 12 midday and you can store your suitcases in a room in reception then use the showers / toilets by the pool which are big and spotless.
In summary, this hotel has improved massively and all the staff we came across were polite and very helpful.
My wife and I are seriously considering coming back here for two weeks in November, So to the wonderful team at breakfast, remember the man who every morning asked for a tortilla con queso!!
Thanks for a lovely holiday and might see you in just over a months time ???

We spent a very happy 2 weeks at this hotel and were very impressed by the friendly, helpful staff, spotlessly clean rooms and surroundings and great location. I can't comment on the evening meal as were booked on a B & B basis having visited Cotillo several times before and knowing of the excellent restaurants nearby. However, breakfast offered something for everyone, including a good selection of gluten free items. One slight criticism was that the hot plates didn't keep cooked food warm enough for our taste. Although the rooms have a coffee machine I asked if I could have a kettle for my herbal teas - it arrived within 10 minutes! We also had a slight problem with the water in our room one day, once again the maintenance man was there within 10 minutes, impressive. The hotel offers optional pool towels at 1 euro a day and a safe for 15 euros per week. This was our first stay at Coral Cotillo beach, we would happily return.

I travelled to Fuerteventura for the first time last November & chose the Coral Cotillo Beach Hotel as it had mainly positive reviews, I'm always honest in my reviews so here we go, let's start with.

Location: El Cotillo is situated at the north west tip of the island, the hotel is easy to find as it's a lovely small fishing village, i hired a car and it was around 30mins drive from the airport.

Rooms: The rooms were well equipped with a lovely large walk in shower, beds were comfy with plenty of pillows, fridge was the usual small unit tucked away inside a cupboard, it didn't fit much inside and never gets that cold. TV was on the wall & had the odd movie in English, plenty of storage space plus a coffee machine too, which was an added bonus.

Food: I was half board so I has breakfast & dinner, like many of the other reviews on here the food was a little limited and often nearly cold, the only way to get a hot piece of food was if the chef had just put it out, otherwise the system in place doesn't keep the food warm enough. Plenty of salad and veg available, but the main meals were a bit limited.

Pool: My room was on the ground floor so i just stepped out and was at the pool, quite a large double pool with a bridge in the middle, water was heated. Sun loungers are situated around the pool, some people as usual do tend to hog the best spots each day, but I didn't have any trouble finding a spot. As the pool & loungers are in a courtyard you don't get the sun all day, roughly from around 10-4 and then you start getting more shade.

Town & Beach: It's a lovely small fishing village and a great base to explore the island, there's plenty of local restaurants and bars close by, also some beautiful long sandy beaches, there's a bit of building work going on in front of the hotel but there's very little noise. You can walk to town in literally 5mins and pop up to the Castillo and take in the sunset. So much to see and do that's fairly close by, there's a bus service but it's infrequent and doesn't go everywhere, a car hire is the best way to go.

All in all a nice hotel in a lovely location, plenty of parking just outside the hotel, yes the food could be improved but I didn't go hungry, I'm going back again this year.

The hotel is very beautiful, the rooms are a good size with comfortable beds, the pool is gorgeous and the Sunbeds are amazing (loads of big squishy beds!) ... but it's like sun bathing in a morgue.

No atmosphere, no music, no staff about.
I'm 32 so I'm past my "clubbing holidays" and I don't want loud booming music all day and night - but some soft background music would have been lovely. Also you can't smoke anywhere on the grounds so if you enjoy a cigarette on holiday I wouldn't come here.

Every single evening performance was canceled bar one which is a shame as I heard the entertainment was meant to be very good.

The rooms are decorated very tastefully and the pillows on the bed are heaven ... but the aircon is awful as it is set to not go below 24 degrees. I appreciate the commitment to climate change but if you like a nice cold room after being in the sun all day you wont get it here. The digital screen on it is also extremely bright so it lights up the room. You also only get given 4 coffee pods per room for the whole week which I think is ridiculous - not even worth providing a coffee machine in the room.

Stayed BnB so I don't know what dinner is like but the breakfast was nice and even has gluten free options.

All in all its a very spacious and pretty hotel but I wouldn't return as the area is much too quiet and dull.

Excellent relaxing time at Hotel Coral Cotillo Beach, we had a one week half board stay as a package with Jet2. The hotel had a change of management in 2019 and the new operators are keen to give clients a good experience. The hotel and rooms are kept immaculate by a small hard working army of cleaners. The buffet break fast and evening meals were very good with a wide selection of dishes. Easy to eat very healthily with a separate section for vegetarian and gluten free options. The heated pool and surrounding patio areas were kept very clean and pool towels are available to rent from reception at 1 Euro per day plus deposit. Our room was very comfortable with the five main British TV channels available. The coffee machine supplied uses coffee cartridges which are replenished each day. We had a room with an adjoining door to the room next door and the sound transmission was noticeable, we could hear the couples conversation next door. The safe deposit box in the room required a 15 Euro fee, shame its not free like most hotels we have used.
There is a small supermarket built into the hotel site accessed outside and has a good supply of everyday items. We would recommend going half board as there are not that many restaurants outside of the hotel as El Cottilo is a small quiet town, we did go in the winter season so more may be open later in the year. the beach immediately in front of the hotel is rocky and not suitable for bathing, but if you walk 10 minutes north out of the town limits there is a lovely family safe beach in a small cove with lifeguard, toilets and a lovely beach bar serving snacks.
As an additional note, El Cottilo is a 35 min drive from the airport, most tour operators drop at other resorts en route, the coach transfer can be lengthy, ours was 1hr 40mins on arrival and just short of 2 hours on return. Jet2 do offer direct transfers at an additional cost, we would opt for that as after a 4 hour flight, another nearly 2 hours coach ride leaves you feeling chair shaped.

Stayed here for 10 days over Christmas bed and breakfast.
Positives:
The Hotel itself is beautiful, well decorated through out.
The pool is heated which was great as the weather this time of year is very warm

Negatives:
Fridge turns off once the key is removed, if you leave this in the maids will take it out so food, drink and medication goes warm.
The bed sheets were only changed once during our 10 day stay.
Towels were only changed if you left them outside of the bathroom in the entrance way on the floor otherwise they will just refold and hang the dirty ones over and over again.
Food was lacking in options, same things over and over. Some of the food was very cheap and nasty and most of the time freezing cold. We spoke to another couple who had to ask for a microwave to warm it up.

I have stayed in a 4 star hotel before but this is not one, I would say 3 at best. I think if they put more into the food they serve then yes.

Stayed here for a week at the beginning of September with my partner with Jet2 Holidays.
Holiday type: Half board.
Climate: mid 20s, pretty windy, cloudy in the mornings but sunny in afternoon and sunburn can be very real.
Food: breakfast is good, varied options, pastries, hot foods like bacon, eggs, beans, and cold meats and cheeses as well as fruits and breads available. Variety of hot and cold drinks too. Evening dinner is not good, first night on a Saturday there were fresh cooked prawns, probably highlight of everyone’s week as these were the only things people were eating. Rest of the week was dreadful, limited options, they seem to reuse leftovers from night before for evening dishes. We ate twice in the hotel and ate out rest of the week. Evening meal also charges for every drink, so a water with your dinner is €2 which for half board you’d think there’d be just a water included perhaps but something to bear in mind.
Hotel: rooms are lovely, recently refurbed so stylish, spacious and comfortable. We had a room on top floor right above the restaurant though could not hear noises when balcony doors were shut. Decor around the hotel is nice too and feels modern. There is however, no atmosphere at the hotel. Staff are lovely! But it must just be nature of the place. Chilling by the pool, it’s quiet which is good and mostly couples and the odd young family. Everyone keeps to themselves and good mix of Europeans and local Spaniards. Good mix of sunbeds, though absolute lack of staff presence to enforce any sort of hotel rules in common areas. Rule is that you can’t leave sunbeds for longer than 10 mins, some were left for hours. Sadly, we were in conflict with some local Spanish guests who had left their things on a sunbed for over 2 hours and we claimed it but hotel couldn’t give a shhh about resolving for us. Luckily a frequent Spanish guest of the hotel intervened and asserted our rights to remain on said sunbed.
Area: El Cotillo is a quaint fishing village, small place with limited things to do. Though, some little gems to visit! Out the hotel straight left down the road, tiny local supermarket to buy water, fresh donuts (divine) and snacks and beers is perfect. Opposite that is the El Sabo cafe where the coffee is amazing for €1/€2. Delightful discovery as hotel coffee tastes like sewage. Leo’s pizza bar near the beach is class! La Vaca Azul for dinner, and live music down by the water!
Cute holiday for couples but no rush to return!

Excellent location for beach lovers and a quiet town.
5 minutes walk to El Cotillo Lagoons, 15 mins to the surfing beach which has life guards.
Perfect base for exploring the area by foot or bike, loads of beaches and lagoons to explore.
The hotel was nice and clean and of a good standard, in the room was a fridge and coffee machine which also boiled just water, a safe which you paid extra, about 2 euros per day. TV has BBC 1,2,News, ITV,Channel 4, and channel 5

I travelled with TUI, the transfer from the airport was very lengthy, I believe its the same with Jet2, I arrived at the hotel quite late, there was no water in my room, all the supermarkets were closed I had to try and find a restaurant that was still open who would sell me some water.
The breakfast was ok, a fair selection, but the hot food was never hot.
Plenty of restaurants and supermarkets in the town, I recommend Tritons Coffee Lab (C. Pedro Cabrera Saavedra) Food, Vegan food, Cocktails and coffee, Mirko and Nico are very welcoming. Also I had an amazing 7 Cheese Pizza at Pizzeria Marameo.
The larger Dino supermarket is very good value, but there is a small one next to the hotel which is great for basic supplies.
Also an amazing Ice Cream parlour next to the hotel Bolas El Cotillo, very difficult to walk past on a hot day.

As for the Hotel service, Reception staff Marco outstanding, very approachable and helpful, also the lady on reception when I checked out on 28th September, she was very helpful and friendly but sadly I didn’t get her name.
Cleaner Veronica is so hard working and friendly she is a superstar.
In the restaurant at breakfast exceptional service from Salvador.
I'm going back the end of February 2024, can't wait.

Nice hotel and grounds, room very clean as are all communal areas. Unfortunately the building work over the road was a pain as every time the Crain moved it gives out a loud alarm and after 2 days of being back I’m sure I can still hear it.
Had an upstairs pool View room opposite reception great room for afternoon sun on the balcony however it had an adjoining room door to next door and you could hear everything and I mean everything!.
Outside the hotel is a supermarket to get your cold beers, wine and Lays crisps and also a laundry if you only came with a small bag. We turned right out of the hotel and after about 10 minutes was a great beech.
All rooms have a coffee machine but the cups in the room don’t fit under it so you need to take the drain off the machine to use it don’t understand why hotels don’t check these things out.
We was B&B but ate in the restaurant a couple of times as it was cold and windy out on a evening good buffet for €18 each.

This place is amazing my wife and I went for two weeks just to relax and get some sun , it did not disappoint the bedrooms were very nice ,cleaned daily if you needed , when you enter the hotel you get a feeling of modern atmosphere very clean and reception staff very friendly. Our room overlooked the pool and had a balcony or you could have room on ground floor where you walk straight out onto pool area, the restaurant was clean and tables inside and out if wanted , food was good you get breakfast in with holiday but we decided to upgrade to half board which then included evening meal , pool was lovely and very warm and plenty of sun beds but if you wanted the king size raised up sun beds on decking you had to be quick after breakfast to get one think there were about ten of these. Overall will definitely be going there again beautiful place,

The building works are all over El Cotillo, and not likely to stop any time soon. Unless you have rooms facing the building site, you should be okay. We booked pool view rooms and could see a crane working opposite every weekday, but never got any noise.

It is quiet, but there are certainly plenty of places to go for food and drinks. Head for the old harbour for the fantastic sunsets. Don't expect night clubs or British type bars though.

Answer from Hannah N

You need to be on the same side as the reception for morning sun, we were 2255 so matches the advice above. They have lovely large sunbeds by the pool that are really comfy but you tend to find the same people bag them everyday! If you look at the pool from reception side, the right hand end past the bridge loses the sun in the afternoon. Enjoy, it's a fab hotel and we loved El Cotillo!
Answer from Johnny W

Long & short of it is no they don’t. I think there are only about 10 rooms opposite the building site. You don’t really hear anything. Trying to remember back to April when I was there I think that there was a solitary horn to indicate that the crane was in use at 8:30 and they finish work well before it gets dark. You don’t really hear anything, it’s more unsightly. Personally speaking I’m out for breakfast early doors, then not back in my room until late. You can’t hear any work whatsoever from the inner hotel. If you’re worried you could email the hotel and see if they can say where you’d be staying or if you can change to a poolside room. I think that upgrade is minimal and about £30.
