We spent a couple of nights in a "double room with window" (I would NOT recommend the room with no window). The room is spacious, super clean and comfortable; with a fridge (2 bottles of water provided every day), tea /coffee kettle and relatively quiet air conditioning. Good bathroom/shower. The room is serviced every day.
Indeed there is no lift... but I am sure the staff (very kind and helpful) would be happy to help in case of heavy luggage!
The location is great, close to the railway station, street markets, restaurants, etc.
In short, a pleasant stay and a great choice of accommodation in Trang.

The price was reasonable for the room and general atmosphere. There were some minor issues that could have been easily fixed and yet were not. We were on the top floor, before you enter your room there is an outside swing door. These banged open and closed all night due to the wind. So did the room next to us. I had to wear ear plugs, I don’t know how my wife survived. If you’re not on the top floor, this may not be relevant. They did not clean our room because we had put the sign on the door that said “clean room”. I believe they have English signs but can’t read English so assumed the sign meant “do not disturb”. No breakfast or breakfast option at their restaurant. The price was low enough that I’d go back.

This is a lovely hotel. It was a very welcome haven, quiet and centrally located. The front desk is incredibly helpful and friendly. It is comfortable, clean and pretty. There is a wine cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The wine selection is quite extensive, including South American, African, European, and North American. Prices are inexpensive for rooms and wine. This would be my first choice to stay if I'm ever in Trang again!

Great guesthouse with nice staff , we really liked it. In the center of the city, near the railway station and night markets. Perfect for transit. Just near, you got restaurants and five star massage, Yapa Hattawet Traditional Thai Massage.

Trang was a real surprise, we stayed 2 nights at the Ban Ao Tong. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Great location, Trang has some great restaurants, many of them close to the hotel. My only complaint was the attitude of the staff, totally unfriendly, bordering on rude.

We had an unexpected detour to Trang after a bad experience involving an island, a leaky tent and rain... Unfortunately Sri Trang which had been highly recommended by a fellow traveler was fully booked so they sent us across the road to Ban Ao Thong. We opted for the Penthouse room which was pretty reasonable considering what you got. Close to train, cafe's and night markets. On the top floor so really quiet barely any traffic noise and could not hear the train. Bed exceptionally comfortable with lovely bathroom. Great Air con, quiet and effective. Lovely courtyard/balcony with plastic loungers and outside table and chairs, and helpful staff also. People often pass through Trang but it is worth the stay and we would highly recommended this accommodation.

Ban Ao Thong Hotel is located just next to the railway station and a weekend night market which is really great if you happen to be there at that time of the week. At the front of the Hotel there is a nice terrace and we brought different kind of food from the stalls in the market and just bought the beer from the hotel for a delicious dinner. Just across the road is also a big grocery store and the area around train station is packed with travel agencies so I guess it would be easy to book a trip out of the town from one of the shops. The hotel serves Trang cake and coffee/tea for breakfast but there is a great dim sum place next to the hotel (station direction) that is highly recommended. The area is also quite fun to stroll around but on Sundays the town seems pretty quiet. The price level of food is quite a lot lower than for example in Ko Lanta and just as tasty.
The actual rooms are a bit tired but functional and very clean. The AC works fine and the double bed is big (but hard) enough for two adults and a small child. Two complimentary water bottles are provided each day and there is a fridge in the room. The shower is slightly problematic as it easily gets more than just the shower corner wet. Wifi is also working well and at least some of the rooms have a view to the front (but there really is not that much to look at).

This little hotel is an absolute surprise, we stay here every time we come to Trang, it is spotlessly clean, the rooms have coffee making facilities, cable TV and wi-fi, the staff are lovely it is central for everything, the night food market is just a few feet away where are can buy almost anything edible, love the place.

Are you kidding?!? This place is a godsend for the town of Trang, Thailand. Why anyone would pay more money for the thurmin thana (of which is rundown, littered with garbage and has liquid stains everywhere) instead of this gem is beyond me.

The Thai artwork throughout the hotel's interior is worth spending the time to admire.

Cable TV with dozens of channels was a surprise given the larger hotels in the area provide strictly over the air broadcast or very basic cable.

Extremely clean rooms with such intricate attention to design detail was more than a pleasant surprise it was a shock.

Real free wifi is available which is more than hard to find in other hotels (Thurman Thana one can cheat and type "admin" for the user name).

The penthouses (there are 2) on the 4th floor have their own rooftop garden and are only about $40.00 per night!

Now to the negatives.

There is no lift or elevator. So you will have to carry your luggage up the stairs (allows you to appreciate the artwork).

Close to the street markets and main city drag which equates to a bit of street noise but WELL worth it given the location.

Housekeeping seems short staffed. I've only seen two housekeepers in my two day stay and the poor things work so hard but don't finish cleaning rooms until 4 or 5pm. If you stay here do tip them, they do such a wonderful job, it's too bad they couldn't get more help.

Stayed for one night so to set off for the islands in the morning. Lovely room, clean and modern bathroom. Nice area outside for sitting watching the world. This is perfectly situated for the travel agents selling island packages, next to the station and also close to all the shops you might require.

You can rent just about any kind of motor vehicle in Trang, and prices are comparable to all of Thai mainland: starting around 200/300 thb per day, depending on bike size. Gas is extra, of course. Enjoy Trang!
