Welcome to MOTU, formerly Royale Takitumu. We are Rarotonga’s newest boutique resort. Tucked away on the shores of the lagoon, MOTU (meaning island) is a stylish haven for tranquillity and relaxation. Offering ten self-contained villas, each is secluded within tropical gardens laden with colourful native plants and flowers. The newly modernised villas invite sophisticated relaxation, with designer interiors and a collection of artworks from across the Pacific. Each villa is air-conditioned and features a spacious bedroom, living area, kitchenette and bathroom, as well as a shaded balcony. You can look forward to exploring the colourful sea life of the lagoon with snorkelling and kayaking gear included with each stay, as well as electric bicycles for discovering the beauty of this tiny nation and its people. Or recline by the fresh-water pool and enjoy a local beer on tap. In high summer you will experience blazing sunrises and sunsets beyond the reef. Our intimate size allows for personalised care for all our guests and is perfect for romantic getaways. We give our environment and our iti tangata (our people) the same care as our guests. We use environmentally friendly products, state of the art wastewater management, and electric vehicles to help preserve our piece of paradise. The majority of our profits support our island community through healthcare, education and the arts, and every stay at MOTU contributes to this. We look forward to welcoming you to MOTU – our island within an island.

My wife and I spent five days at the Royale Takitumu, but unfortunately had to cut our visit short due to the coronavirus pandemic and border closures. However, in our brief and tumultuous time (caused by having to work through re-booking flights home as borders closed), we were able to enjoy the accommodations supplied by Tim and Lucille Meyer, the property managers. We stayed in suite 2, which was right on the beach. What an awesome way to relax, by being able to step out onto a sandy beach and turquoise blue water. The suite was well appointed and super comfortable. We especially enjoyed having our morning espresso with the coffee machine every morning, to the sound of the waves breaking on the reef and beach. The grounds of the resort are immaculate, and it is clear the staff and management take great pride in maintaining them daily. Kayaks, e-bikes and snorkelling equipment were all supplied by the resort, and we used each one. But probably the greatest thing about this resort, at least from our perspective, was the staff. The folks looking after the grounds and our suite always had a smile for us, something that was very comforting during some stressful days. And I am not sure how I can possibly express my appreciation for the way were treated by Tim and Lucille, who made sure we had to many complimentary internet vouchers, their office telephone for long distance calls to Canada and New Zealand, and just general support when we were needing it. We've stayed at a lot of resorts in our travels, but I have to say that the way we treated by the folks at the Royale Takitumu tops them all. We hope to be back there in the future to finish our visit to the Cook Islands.

Kia Orana, thank you so much for taking the time to write us a review on Trip Advisor. Please excuse that it has taken me a while to get back to you. The Corona crisis has kind of taken over for a while but now the Cook Islands are officially labeled CORVID-19 free zone! We live in a happy bubble now until travel resumes. The team is still here and we are making sure that when corona is in the past the property will look better than it ever has and that we deliver the first class Royale Takitumu service that you are used to. We hope to see you again on our beach in Titikaveka! Until then, please stay healthy and look after each other! Love from the whole team at Royale Takitumu Tim Meyer Manager

Property's Favourite Review
My partner and I just stayed here for 5 nights on our first visit to the island. The resort is small with only 7 or 8 villas and it’s also adults only so there are no families. Because of that it is so quiet and relaxing, you’ve basically got the best beach on the island to yourself LITERALLY right outside your villa. The beach here was just unbelievable, it looks like it’s photoshopped. The snorkeling here is also really good. The resort has snorkeling equipment, kayaks and stand up paddle boards that can be used whenever you like. There are also bikes that can be used to ride to different parts of the island. Bus stops just outside the resort for longer trips into town, or you can hire a car right next door. The villas are really nice, a small kitchen, simple bathroom but everything you need is there. The staff are all very friendly. The transfer to and from the resort from the airport and vice versa sound expensive but you soon realise that it’s a fairly normal price for the taxis on the island. There are a small number of places to eat nearby, but if you’re looking to go further away it’s best to catch the bus, or go to one of the restaurants that run free transfers. Tim and Lucille are running a fine resort and have employed a great team. We hope to make it back one day

This boutique resort right on the best beach in Rarotonga is a fabulous place to unwind and enjoy the surroundings. The villas are tastefully decorated, immacutately maintained and have all you need to self cater if required. Lots of thoughtful touches - tasteful foot baths with fresh flower petals outside each villa, discreet clothes drying line, fresh fruit..... Some of the villas have stunning new bathrooms and the management told us the remaining villas will all have the bathrooms upgraded too. We stayed in one of the beachfront villas - they are all positioned so ensure privacy from one another. The garden villas also have views across the gorgeous gardens, through to the beach. The staff were welcoming and would do anything for us. The managers, Tim & Lucile are true professionals.

This was our 3rd trip back to stay at the Royale Takitumu Villas/Resort. The managers, Tim and Lucile and staff are wonderful. They have always made us feel at home, welcome and relaxed. The resort itself is small and cozy and so peaceful that you really do unwind and relax. You sometimes feel that you are the only ones on the beach. The lagoon is great, I do recommend water shoes in the lagoon. The pool area is great with the lovely waterfall next to it. The resort now has e-bikes for those that wish to explore the island on their own. The villas are serviced daily and the staff take great care.Twelve years ago on our first visit to Raro we fell in love with the people and their culture. They are so proud of their culture! Well RT, well done:)
