We chose this hotel because it was close to the airport and we were arriving late. The staff are pleasant friendly and speak good English. Our room was basic and bare although clean. The balcony looked very shabby however, as did the grounds. (In saying this I accept it was off season, however they appeared to have been neglected for some time). The food was ‘cheap and cheerful’, the breakfast pretty uninspiring. The hotel was fairly quiet with what appeared to be a couple of large parties in, probably for a conference. In short, if you are looking for somewhere to stay close to the airport for a night it probably just about passes muster. Otherwise I would avoid.

The nicest hotel! Great staff - many with good English. Great facilities, great surroundings, fantastically clean and relaxed. A 4* hotel with 5* performance. It’s near the airport, so avoids long transfers and the railway is a short walk to get into central Palermo.

Our room was very spacious and the bathroom was clean and pleasant. Most of the staff were friendly and the women on the reception desk were extremely helpful and painstaking. The breakfast was disappointing - unappetising cooked food and tired-looking cold meats, cheese and peppers/olives, etc, and far too much in the way of cake and biscuits. We took dinner one evening, which was also rather a disappointment - the pasta dish was not hot enough, the green beans cooked far too much, and soggy patates al forno, for example. The location (Capaci/Isola delle Femmine) itself is not particularly attractive, since it is near an industrial estate, although the private beach seems quite pleasant. The outdoor swimming-pools are unheated and many of the sunloungers need replacing.

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We appreciate your positive comments about the spacious room, clean bathroom, and the helpfulness of the women on the reception desk. However, we are genuinely sorry to hear that your experience with the breakfast and dinner did not meet your expectations. Your comments about the quality of the cooked food, cold meats, and the excessive presence of cakes and biscuits are duly noted. We will address this with our culinary team to ensure improvements are made in both variety and freshness. Similarly, we regret that the pasta dish during dinner did not meet your expectations, and we will review our cooking processes to ensure the proper temperature of the dishes. We'll also pay attention to the preparation of vegetables and side dishes to enhance the overall dining experience. Lastly, we appreciate your feedback on the outdoor swimming pools and sun loungers. We will assess the condition of the facilities and take the necessary steps to enhance the overall experience for our guests. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we are committed to making the necessary improvements. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with an enhanced experience.

We had a great time at this resort! The views are great as well as the amenities. Free parking, nice pool, free breakfast and good food. Staff was also friendly. Free private beach with chairs included. The beach is beautiful too. This hotel is more for people who like to party and have a good time. They havr entertainment every night with music and dancing, which we found fun. But if you want a quiet place this might not be for you. It’s only 15 minute drive from the city. The only issue we had was the air conditioning wasn’t working well in our room, and depending on your room the walls are bit thin so you may be able to hear your neighbors if they are loud. Overall, it exceeded our expectations for the price!

The staff was really amazing, said hi to everyone, was friendly and professional. One pool was a bit calmer, one had a bit more action. Amazing private beach. Where ever you are at the hotel, you can always find a member of the staff if you have any questions. Amazing views, you can look out over the sea in one direction, and if you turn around you look at mountains. This is a perfect hotel if you are after the resort life. Location wise maybe not the best cannot really walk anywhere and not so much around, we are happy that we had 5 days in Palermo City before going here. The hotel offer really good excursions, we went to one of them, to the Egadi islands, highly recommend this trip!!

We had been staying in Taormina for 11 nights and the day we were due to fly home from Catania, our flight was cancelled due to a problem at the airport. We were re-routed two days later and needed to fly from Palermo, so required somewhere to stay over night. I booked Saracen Sands Hotel online then looked at the recent reviews below which were not all great reading. However, when we arrived we were impressed with the property, fantastic friendly helpful staff, the inclusive dinner was to a high standard. There were a lot of families who seemed to be having a fun time, with plenty of activities. Our room was comfortable, decent shower and air-conditioning, in essence we were happy with our experience.

Sal Dragone wrote a review Jul 2023

It has been a while since I did a review on TA. Mostly because I began to lose faith that anything I wrote made a difference, especially because so many reviews must be fake or they have stayed or dined in the same places I am reviewing. But my experience at the Saracen Hotel last week (July 5 to July 8, 2023) was so terrible and in such contrast to some of the reviews I have read, I simply feel compelled to say something. First and foremost, I typically do not write negative reviews since sometimes the experience can be skewed by expectations or someone simply having a bad day. Second, this is a real review and not a paid negative advertisement and I welcome readers to contact me. So here it goes. I booked 5 nights at the Saracen based on a family event happening in the area. I have traveled to Italy all my life and have stayed at all sorts of hotels from 2 to 5 star. I looked at the pictures and read the description and was looking forward to our stay. That is where the good news ends. Upon arrival, you feel you are entering a compound and not a good one. The structure of the hotel, unlike the description of it being a “glistening white building” is old, prison-looking and is anything by white. It is discolored and is obviously in need of a lot of repair. OK, think positive I said. We entered the lobby, not bad, warm, but not bad. Checked in, and was made to pay for the entire stay in advance, which is rare and made me a bit uncomfortable. We were given our room key and proceeded to the elevator. The elevator was tiny (typical for a lot of Italy hotels) and felt as though I was in an aluminum can. Slow and rickety. My wife took the stairs. We get off on the 3rd floor and it is sweltering and does not smell well. The furniture looked like something from a child’s playground. We walk down to our room, lights came on and off in the hallway, which was dirty. Got to the room and after a couple of attemps of entering, it finally opened. The room is sparse, with very few outlets and odd furniture placement. The room was clean, but also pushing 90 degrees. I put the key in the slot, turned on the AC and was only able to set it to 22 degrees Celsius or 72 degrees. After about 3 minutes, it turned off and said it was at 22. NFW. The room was a sauna. About 90 seconds later, it came back on for about 60 seconds. I will spare everyone full details, but the point is the room never really got cooler than about 80 degrees even after I had maintenance come up to the room twice in the week. It was terrible. We paid for a superior ocean front room, and yes, we faced the ocean, but it was about 2,000 yards away. All we say was a sea of concrete and a pool that was packed in the distance. On the balcony were cigarette butts and when you looked over the balcony, you saw more on the roof tiles as well as other trash. We decided to go down to the pool area, which is a vast cheap array of plastic tables and chairs, the music was pumping and it felt like a bad part of Cancun in the 80’s. We decided to walk down to the beach, having to find a tunnel to get there, and popped up on a street with that same old Mexico vibe (BTW, I love Cancun theses days, high end and very clean). We walked to the beach bar, which was small and had a few more of those cheap plastic chairs. The beach was empty, but chairs were backed and placed so tight you could neve expect to get any sun or even the most remote feeling of being at a “Resort”. At the water line, all you say were cigarette butts and trash. The water was brown, not you typical Italian blue. We turned around and went back to the beach bar trying to find a silver lining to this place….none to be found. I paid a little over $200.00 a night for the hotel, which is not expensive, but so far absolutely NOTHING like what the website said it was. To me, this is a $50.00 a night hotel at best, but think about it, if you can not enjoy it or sleep in it, then in reality it is worth nothing. That night we did find an incredible restaurant to have dinner at but when we went back to the hotel, they had very loud (and I am not a old fuddy duddy) music playing by the so-called adult pool, which had children in it all day. But the odd thing was no one was dancing let alone around the pool deck and bar. It was as though the DJ was just playing super loud so that all of Italy could hear them. There were a lot of families and kids at the hotel, but the DJ was playing techno music that appealed to no one. We then headed to our room hoping that the room would have cooled by then (we left the key in the slot so the AC would not turn off). NOPE, the room was still very warm even with the AC running all evening and the blinds closed shut. Needless to say, it was a terrible night’s sleep with the sound of the AC going on and off every 30 to 90 seconds and never getting cool. The music blared till midnight, then went off, then music came back from all the clubs on the strip between the hotel and the beach. Needless to say, it was not a good combination. For the next day, we came up with a plan to go see other parts of Sicily and decided to stay at other places for the next 2 nights, while keeping our room at the Saracen. Upon leaving for our excursions, I told the hotel about the issues and while they were nice, nothing was offered or fixed. When we came back 2 days later, it was the same thing. I think I can stop my review right now, no need to go into more details such as charging for pool towels and such. I will say the staff was nice, so this is more about the place than the service people. The bottom line is this place is a terrible place to stay. Not clean, run-down, and now as portrayed.

Dear guest, reviews always make the difference. Don't lose faith that yours may not be useful to us or to any guests. We may disagree on many points, but every review is sacred and it is up to the future guest to make up their own mind. We want to be absolutely clear about one thing: in none of our portals you will find reviews piloted or paid for by us. Forget about this eventuality. And it's actually very simple, you may like or dislike what we offer, this obviously depends on many factors, especially expectations and needs. "looks like a prison" is a totally subjective term, someone else called it "seaside oasis". The truth probably lies somewhere in between. Our facility is continuously under modernisation, since the new ownership took over we have been working hard on every square metre. Yes, the elevators need to be changed, there is no doubt (it is planned) and even on the subject of air conditioning we can do better. But criticizing the sea view of the Saracen, forgive us, is really difficult to accept. You may not like the decor and you can always improve on each theme you have proposed, but the sea view as a negative factor is very ungenerous. In any case, we are sorry that you did not find yourself well at the Saracen. It's definitely a failed mission for us. What we can do is definitely improve spurred on by reviews like yours.

Tasty lunches and dinners (breakfast could be more varied), beautiful beach, wonderful surroundings od the hotel, parking. Some of the rooms are not renovated and there were also minor inconveniences but it is still one of the best hotels for this price in Sicily in my opinion.

To be fair I am a pilot and travel world wide. This is not the place a flight crew would like to be stuck at. Horrible rooms, crappy beds, foam rubber pillows, AC almost non existent. wifi inop in the room. only restaurant is open 12:30 tom14:30 for the worst buffet I have ever experienced. Five minutes before they open 400 senior citizens descend on the place to get grilled fish head to tail and breaded pork chops with pasta, that and a bunch of horrible salad stuff. Crowded lobby with only 2 desk clerks. I had to call my office to get me another hotel, could not sleep in a room that was 88 degrees. Shower was ridiculous small, 2 little paper cups in the room, no coffee or tea maker. Only good point is the room had a mini fridge with 2 bottles of water in it.
