Relaxing times at the TauferbergThe Tauferberg hotel, guesthouse and country inn grew naturally over the years and is located on the sunny Niederthai plateau in the Otztal valley. The family-run hotel is renowned for the hospitality of managers Brigitte and Hermann Falkner as well as the modern comfort, cosy apartments and welcoming public rooms. A new sauna and spa area can be enjoyed after a day in the fresh mountain air.Traditional country inn and restaurantThe dining areas have been lovingly furnished with an eye for detail and give the Tauferberg hotel its unique, welcoming atmosphere. Famous for a traditional yet light cuisine, the relaxed restaurant can accommodate up to 80 diners, whereas the traditional wooden Zirben Stube has seating for 25 people. The bar is the ideal meeting place to round off the evening. A large, south-facing sun terrace is directly in front of the hotel.

A wonderful hotel located high on the mountain. Incredibly delicious morning and evening. Amazing cleanliness. Large room with balcony. Hotel staff ratio exceeds expectations. Stunning views around the hotel. Close to Stuibenfall Waterfall. Close to everywhere in the Oetz Valley. At the Spa Hotel. The traditional design of the hotel is modern. The 3 star hotel, suits it to be 4 stars in my opinion. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel

I spend a few days in the hotel with my mother (79) during a short hiking trip in the Ötztal. After a long journey on the German Autobahn we were friendly welcomed and could enjoy a very tasteful meal. We received very good suggestions for hiking trials of which many started directly from the hotel. Niederthai is a lovely small village at a height of 1550 m. Everywhere you look the views are stunning. The Stuibenfall is nearby and climbing the steel suspension bridge to the top is spectacular. Thank you Fam. Falkner for taking good care of us in your beautiful hotel! I hope to come back sometime.

We had a wonderfully relaxing experience during our first time in Austria while staying at the Tauferberg for 3-4 days. The surroundings in the breathtaking Austrian Alps were just brilliant. The meals were excellent, and reasonably priced. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the casual conversation with other guests on the patio was very much enjoyed. The local entertainment consisted of some native dancers and a musician who were very enjoyable. The proximity to beautiful hiking trails, a stunning waterfall, and the local villagees were beyond our wildest hopes. We would easily go there again when we next visit that part of Austria.

The good reviews are accurate! The staff is super friendly and welcoming, service is top-notch. Food is very delicious too, the half-board is perfect cos there's no shops or many restaurants here in the small mountain village of Niederthai as well. Easy walk to Stuibenfall, beautiful scenery of rolling hills everywhere. The balcony of the rooms in the hotel building faces the Alps, view is amazing. The whole family is super nice and it feels good to support a family business. They gave us candy before we left also, I can't sing enough praises about this place!!

A modern, quality hotel in a beautiful little corner of Oetztal. The staff are lovely, professional and friendlly and the whole atmosphere of the hotel is guest focussed. There's something really special about being above the main, busy valley and close to the mountains - if you want a summer hiking special place to stay we really reccomend the Tauferberg and we guess it's even more special in winter. It was our first visit since the hall was restyled. The hotel has more standing now. It's incredible how Brigitte and Hermann can manage this. Since over 7 years we visit Tauferberg and every time their welcome and service is excellent. Also from their team. We couldn't find items which were bad. Rooms are clean and accommodation is more as fine. I could write this review in only one word : excellent !!

We did not stay at the hotel but came for dinner. The service and food were very good. The salad buffet is nice and includes bread and cheeses. Worth dining if staying in Niederthai. Prices are reasonable - 14 euros for a schnitzel. Salad buffet for 7 euros.

Booking: On our last minute search for a room for our family of 4, we came upon the Tauferberg hotel. We made the booking on booking.com for the last 2 available rooms (deluxe double room and a double room), both for maximum occupation of 2 people. Location: The hotel is located in a small village named Niederthai and is about 6 kms away from Umhausen. It can be reached by a road going through woods and past a large waterfall. Besides a ski area, there are many hiking trails and cycling / mountain biking trails in the area, a lot of them leaving from the hotel. Rooms: We were expecting a lot after reading the description of the rooms and the superb reviews. When we arrived 4 days later, we were appointed a deluxe room and a 1 bedroom apartment both located at different floors. The deluxe room was very spacious and modern with a nice bathroom, just as we expected. Much to our surprise the room was set up for 4 people (double bed and double sofa bed). The apartment consisted of 1 bedroom, a small sitting room with mini TV and table, a bathroom with shower and a small kitchen area. It was not as modern as the deluxe room but it had a nice size that could be appreciated by people that stay for longer periods of time. We spoke to the owner and he agreed to let us stay together in the deluxe room and we returned the keys for the apartment. The bed linnes are nice but the beds itself are not comfortable. The sofa bed was especially uncomfortable. We paid the same amount for the 4 people in one room as we would have paid for the 2 rooms. Hotel facilities: We did not use the wellness center however we noticed that it consists of several saunas and a rest area. There is no pool. There is game room in the basement with table soccer, etc. and a small playground with trampoline in the garden. Food: Dinner is a fixed menu and did not correspond to a special diet of one of our family members. Therefore we opted for the a la carte menu. Since we did not eat the fixed menu, 6 euros per person was deducted from the room price. Dinner food was moderately priced, plentiful, delicious and quickly served. Breakfast is buffet style with meats, cheeses, scrambled and boiled eggs, cereals and different sorts of bread (carrot bread!). People are appointed fixed tables in the restaurant and parties of 2 are put together at a table. Conclusion: In our opinion, the general atmosphere was one of low energy. Although we had a nice room, had enjoyed a good dinner and staff was friendly, the hotel did not excite us.

We already come to Tauferberg at familie Falckner for more then 15 years. Everytime we are there it is super. The food is great, the service correct and very friendly. The rooms are super clean, typical Austrian, tiptop in the new part of the hotel and mostly renovated in the old part. There is a small brandnew welness with 4 sauna's. There are 3 small downhill places where you can ski but Solden and Otz are about 20 minutes away. I can hardly recommened this hotel for familiy's, seniors and people who like to stay away from all the after ski places. We'll be back for many years to came !

After 30 plus years of vacationing in Austria and travelling around the world on business & pleasure, I have never encountered such disgraceful and dishonest behaviour. Whilst the standard of the food and service provided by the staff was excellent, this was completely overshadowed by the hotel owner’s deceitful allocation of accommodation. After researching the hotel’s website and discussing accommodation with the hotel owner’s nephew, we were assured of receiving a single and double room in the hotel’s annex. The booking was confirmed in writing in June 2012, and there was no ambiguity about the location of the reserved rooms as the owner’s nephew spoke excellent English. However, on arrival on August 21 we were shown rooms in multiple properties around the village which had nothing to do with the hotel! The rooms we were initially shown were not only un-associated with the hotel but were substandard. After rejecting rooms in a guest house, we were shown alternative rooms in a farmhouse. My partner and I disputed the accommodation we were provided with the owner’s nephew, but he was not able to provide us rooms within the hotel properties. He required the authorisation of the owner who was unavailable until 11pm. We waited until his return where we confronted him, but he insisted he had no alternative accommodation. We continued the discussion until midnight when he finally offered a room in yet another apartment block... unrelated to the hotel. This room was more aligned to the accommodation we had booked. My elderly mother was tired after the journey and had gone to sleep in the farmhouse room he had initially allocated. He promised he would organise a better room the following evening. The following evening he offered my mother a room in yet another guesthouse establishment, which although better than the farmhouse was nowhere near the hotel standard. I disputed the validity of what he had done but he was ambivalent and we had no alternative to accept as my mother had no room! We have made a formal complaint to the tourist board about his practices. We understand this is a practice he has routinely adopted, although he makes no reference to this on his website. He accepted our booking at hotel prices and then on arrival, without any prior warning, allocated vastly substandard accommodation! Our entire vacation has been needlessly spoiled by the proprietor, because we wasted so much time disputing the accommodation, moving between properties, having sleepless nights thinking about what had been done, and contacting the authorities about his actions. I can understand why the hotel’s ratings are high, because the food and service of the restaurant staff were excellent, but the owner’s dishonest actions have completely overridden any positives. The rating categories below do not really allow me to express my dissatisfaction with the hotel. I will continue to do my utmost to ensure his practices cease through the Austrian authorities.

Response from Hermann F, Manager at Hotel Tauferberg
Responded 11 Sept 2012
Dear Mr. Martin, thank you very much for taking your time to share your experiences with us. We sincerely regret that we couldn't fully satisfy you. Like we have delighted you with our cuisine and service, we try to pamper our guests in all areas the best we can. As you can see, we have accomplished just that many times over the past. Our superb price performance ratio was mentioned especially often by numerous guests. Due to the fact that we are offering several classes of accommodation, it makes a difference which class is being booked. In addition to that we gladly arrange changes into higher classes on site, as we take the well-being of our guests especially seriously. Unfortunately, this was not possible due to the booking situation at that time. Although, we assure you, that we will take your suggestions very seriously and we have now added additional information concerning our guest houses on our homepage. We would love to have you as our guest again and convince you of our all around high standard of quality. Sincerely Falkner Family & Staff
